Testing drag-free proof mass systems for gravitational physics requires a ground test system that simulates space conditions as closely as possible. In this experiment, a magnetic levitation system was built, which can levitate, hold, and spin a hollow sphere in a vacuum to simulate operations in a zero-G environment. An optical shadow sensor consisting of an infrared emitter and a pair of photodiodes is used to determine the position of the sphere. A custom-made electronic board converts the analog signal to digital. The board has a switch to reverse the current direction through the coil in case the sphere becomes magnetized and is attracted to the coil in the vacuum. Digital control code has been developed to create a stable feedback control system to drive the coil and hold the sphere in a stable levitating position. The position of the sphere can be adjusted digitally. The system is designed to achieve initial levitation and to restore the sphere to its levitating position if it drops out of lock. COMSOL Multiphysics[1] was used for thermal and magnetic simulation and system analysis. Importantly, the heat generated by the coil is not easily dissipated in the vacuum. The design is optimized to ensure that the coil can be run for at least two hours without overheating. The sphere is spun using four coils driven by digitally generated sine and cosine functions to produce a rotating magnetic field around its equator. Operation up to 18 Hz is easily achieved. The system can be used to test the three-axis optical sensor system Differential Optical Shadow Sensor (DOSS)[2], which is being developed separately, by rapidly switching to the DOSS sensor while the sphere is levitating. Small magnetic pulses can also be used to simulate thruster perturbations in the plane orthogonal to the support axis.

Novel trypanosomatid species detected in Mongolian pikas (Ochotona pallasi) and their fleas in northwestern China

Background In the family Trypanosomatidae, the genus Trypanosoma contains protozoan parasites that infect a diverse range of hosts, including humans, domestic animals, and wildlife. Wild rodents, as natural reservoir hosts of various pathogens, play an important role in the evolution and emergence of Trypanosomatidae. To date, no reports are available on the trypanosomatid infection of pikas (Lagomorpha: Ochotonidae). Methods In this study, Mongolian pikas and their fleas were sampled at the China-Mongolia border, northwestern China. The samples were analyzed with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing for the presence of Trypanosomatidae on the basis of both the 18S ribosomal RNA (18S rRNA) gene and the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gGAPDH) gene. The morphology of trypomastigotes was also observed in peripheral blood smears by microscopy. Results Molecular and phylogenetic analyses revealed a new genotype of the Trypanosoma lewisi clade that was found both in pika blood and flea samples. This genotype, which probably represents a new species, was provisionally designated as "Trypanosoma sp. pika". In addition, a novel genotype belonging to the genus Blechomonas of Trypanosomatidae was detected in fleas. On the basis of its molecular and phylogenetic properties, this genotype was named Blechomonas luni-like, because it was shown to be the closest related to B. luni compared with other flea-associated trypanosomatids. Conclusions To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to report any trypanosomatid species in Mongolian pikas and their fleas. Further studies are needed to investigate the epidemiology of these protozoan parasites, as well as to evaluate their pathogenicity for humans or domestic animals.

Thermal treatment of Co(II) tetracarboxyphenyl porphyrin supported on carbon as an electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction

Ultraviolet-visible and fourier transform infrared absorption spectra indicate that poly-tetraphenylporphyrin Co (II) (PTPPCo) can be obtained by heat-treating 5,10,15,20-tetra (4-carboxyphenyl)-porphyrin Co (II) (TCPPCo) at 400 degrees C in argon atmosphere. Polytetraphenylporphyrin Co/C is obtained by heat treatment (HT) of TCPPCo, which is adsorbed on Vulcan XC-72 with different Co-N-4 loading, from 400 degrees C to 1000 degrees C in argon atmosphere. Catalysts are evaluated for electroreduction performances of oxygen on modified electrodes in sulfuric acid solutions. Results from electroreduction of the catalyst (HT 600 degrees C and 6 wt% Co-N-4 loading) show the original reduction voltage is 0.81 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode, and the transfer electron number is 3.83. The morphology, distribution, and surface elemental analysis of the catalysts are characterized by x-ray diffraction spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy with energy dispersive x-ray. PTPPCo can homogeneously anchor on the carbon support and withstand decomposition upon heat treatment at 600 degrees C. Since TCPPCo results in polymerization on XC-72, pi (pi) bond increases significantly with the decrease in pi-electron delocalization energy. Improved capacity in electron gain or loss is observed, and the center of electrocatalysis is clearly exposed. Thus, the activity, stability, and selectivity of the catalyst presented in this paper are proven better than those of other common catalysts. (c) 2010 Professor T. Nejat Veziroglu. Social Support and Physical Activity in Pregnant Women With Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: Exploring the Mediating Role of Fear of Falling

For designing a reinjection system of fireflood exhaust, phase calculation and analysis are the most fundamental things. Aspen Hysys and FEPE which was developed with our own intellectual property rights were employed to study the phase envelope of fireflood exhaust from HQ-1 well. After comparing the applicability of the software adopted, the rule of phase behavior and affecting factors were summarized. The result shows that the composition and phase envelope of fireflood exhaust are dramatically different with that of natural gas. Envelope Utility, a tool which is commonly used to produce fluid phase envelope in Aspen Hysys, makes fault in generating that of wet fireflood exhaust. By contrast, FEPE can produce the dew point line for wet and water-free fireflood exhaust, showing batter applicability than Envelope Utility. The results also show that among the components, water content affects the dew point most seriously. There will exist liquid-vapor phase during rejection process, which will threaten the rejection safety. Thus, for safety's sake, it is required to take prevention measures such as dehydration to avoid corrosion and other risks. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Random forest analysis of ICU nurses' knowledge, attitudes and practices in oral care for ventilator-associated pneumonia prevention

BackgroundOral care is critical for preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. ICU nurses play a key role in delivering this care but often encounter challenges stemming from knowledge gaps and inconsistent practices. AimTo assess ICU nurses' knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) in oral care for VAP prevention and identify demographic factors influencing these variations using random forest analysis. Study DesignA multi-centre cross-sectional study was conducted. Between April and June 2023, 291 ICU nurses from five ICUs across three public tertiary hospitals in Ganzhou City were surveyed using proportionate stratified sampling. Likert-scale questionnaires evaluated KAP, and statistical analyses, including t-tests, analysis of variance and random forest models, were used to determine demographic predictors of KAP scores. ResultsThe average KAP scores were as follows: knowledge 27.34 (+/- 4.53), attitudes 31.89 (+/- 4.24), and practices 43.13 (+/- 9.0). Significant predictors of KAP included academic titles, professional positions, gender, ICU tenure and department. Common barriers to effective oral care included lack of formal training, time constraints and limited resources. ConclusionsICU nurses demonstrate positive attitudes towards VAP prevention, but significant gaps in knowledge and practice remain. Targeted education, especially for less-experienced and lower qualified nurses, and standardized protocols are essential to improve adherence to oral care practices and reduce VAP incidence. Relevance to Clinical PracticeThe findings highlight the need for tailored educational interventions to address knowledge gaps, particularly among male, less-experienced and lower qualified nurses. Implementing standardized training protocols can enhance oral care practices, improve patient outcomes and reduce VAP incidence.

Synthesis, antitumor activity evaluation of some new N-aroyl-α, β-unsaturated piperidones with fluorescence

Novel N-aroyl-,-unsaturated piperidones, series 1, series 2 and series 3 (featuring 2-bromo-4,5-dimethoxybenzylidene, 4-dimethylaminobenzylidene and 4-trifluoromethylbenzylidene, respectively), were synthesized as candidate cytotoxins. Most of the compounds displayed potent cytotoxicity against the human neoplastic cell lines SK-BR-3, PG-BE1, NCI-H460, MIA PaCa-2 and SW1990 in vitro, and approximately 64% of the IC50 values were lower than 5M. Among those tested, compound 1b of series 1, 3a, 3d and 3e of series 3 proved to be the most active. Importantly, 1b displayed marked inhibitory effects on tumor growth in vivo and had no apparent toxicity to mice;this was evaluated by a nude mouse PG-BE1 xenograft model. In addition, the fluorescent properties of compounds series 1-3 were investigated. The interesting fluorescence exhibited by these compounds could be useful for their visualization in tumor cells, permitting further studies on these ,-unsaturated piperidones as candidates for novel fluorescent antitumor agents.

We report comparison measurements of the adsorption and properties of 4He on 400, 800 and 1000 angstrom thick C60 films and on glass and silver plated quartz by the techniques of pulsed third sound and quartz crystal resonance. No marked difference in the superfluid transition or adsorption behavior is observed among the several substrates.
