Association Between Nutritional Risk Screening Score and Prognosis of Patients with Sepsis

Background: Malnutrition is one of the most critical factors affecting patients' risk of infection and length of stay, and it may affect the prognosis of patients with sepsis. There have been no studies that have applied nutritional risk screening tools to stratify patients with sepsis according to prognosis. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 425 adult sepsis inpatients who were grouped based on nutritional risk screening (NRS) score, including a nutrition score, disease severity score, and age score. Prognostic factors were analyzed using univariate and multivariate regression analyses. Results: Of the enrolled patients, 174 had an NRS score of >3;these patients were older and had a longer hospitalization time but lower body mass index (BMI), albumin (ALB) than others. Univariate Cox regression analysis showed that age, ALB, C-reactive protein (CRP), and NRS score were significantly (P<0.05) associated with in-hospital mortality. Multivariate analysis showed that age (hazard ratio [HR]=1.020, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.005- 1.036;P=0.008) and ALB (HR=0.924, 95% CI: 0.885-0.966;P<0.001) were independent risk factors for sepsis-related mortality. The Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that the cumu-lative in-hospital mortality of sepsis patients with an NRS score of >3 was significantly higher than that of patients with an NRS score of <3 (P=0.022). Conclusion: NRS scores can effectively risk stratify sepsis patients. Patients with high NRS scores should be monitored more closely to halt further disease progression.

A surfactant interfacial adsorption process is highly associated with its micellization behaviors in the water phase, which is of great fundamental and practical significance in enhanced oil recovery. In this paper, the typical anionic surfactant 1-dodecanesulfonic acid sodium (DAS) and nonionic surfactants octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether-n (OP-n, n = 1, 5, and 10) are introduced to investigate their micellization behavior and interfacial adsorption process via molecular dynamics simulation. Number density profiles reveal that the additional OP5 molecules in the water phase generate the mixed micelle with DAS molecules and greatly promote its interfacial adsorption. Interaction energy calculation is employed to confirm the interaction of anionic/nonionic surfactants in the mixed micelle. Then, the radial distribution function, solvent-accessible surface area, and solvation free energy are calculated to further explore and verify the adsorption mechanism of the mixed micelle. It is found that the nonionic surfactant obviously decreases the hydrophilicity of the mixed micelle in the water phase, which should be responsible for its intensive tendency of the interfacial adsorption.

A two-terminal self-powered optoelectronic structure could mimic synaptic functions of a human brain synapse unit(Figure 1(a)) based on the photovoltaic effects [1], demonstrating the potential for decreasing energy consumption for future computing. However, current self-powered optoelectronic synaptic devices face issues of stability and cost,which mainly arise from noble metal electrodes and independent hole transport layers used in these structures. Substituting low-cost carbon for these metal electrodes and carrier transport layers may promise to solve these challenges.

TXNIP inhibition in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus: design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of quinazoline derivatives

Thioredoxin interacting protein (TXNIP) is a potential drug target for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) treatment. A series of quinazoline derivatives were designed, synthesised, and evaluated to inhibit TXNIP expression and protect from palmitate (PA)-induced beta cell injury. In vitro cell viability assay showed that compounds D-2 and C-1 could effectively protect beta cell from PA-induced apoptosis, and subsequent results showed that these two compounds decreased TXNIP expression by accelerating its protein degradation. Mechanistically, compounds D-2 and C-1 reduced intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and modulated TXNIP-NLRP3 inflammasome signalling, and thus alleviating oxidative stress injury and inflammatory response under PA insult. Besides, these two compounds were predicted to possess better drug-likeness properties using SwissADME. The present study showed that compounds D-2 and C-1, especially compound D-2, were potent pancreatic beta cell protective agents to inhibit TXNIP expression and might serve as promising lead candidates for the treatment of T2DM.

The Modeling and Using Strategy for the Digital Twin in Process Planning

Process planning is the core of guiding process production and one of the most critical parts to realize intelligent manufacturing of products. In order to realize the monitoring, simulation, prediction and control of the physical space in the intelligent manufacturing mode, the digital twin technology is used to guide the process planning. This research describes a modeling method of digital twin process model (DTPM) for manufacturing process and the contents of DT data, discusses the acquisition method of real-time data and the management method of simulation data. Aiming at the data fusion between physical space and virtual space, a hierarchical model and mapping strategy for multi-source heterogeneous data in machining process are proposed to generate the DT data. Finally, the guidance and the visualization function in process planning of DTPM is analyzed, and the effectiveness of this method is verified by choosing the design process of a key component in a marine diesel engine.

Cyclic volatile methylsiloxanes (cVMSs) are widely used in industrial processes and consumer products, which have been reported to be potentially toxic to human health due to their persistence and bioaccumulation. In this study, a novel photo-catalytic zinc oxide (ZnO)-coated aluminum (ZnO@Al) anode was prepared by a facile hydrothermal epitaxial process for the purpose of degrading cVMSs in practical wastewater. Morphological data and compositional analysis showed a compact coating layer that had the characteristic peaks of ZnO. To optimize the degradation process, central composite design combined with response surface methodology was applied to acquire the optimum parameters of cVMSs removal, and results indicated the cVMSs removal efficiency was approximately 63.3% at the conditions of current density = 17.3 mA/cm(2), initial pH of electrolyte = 7.8, plate distance = 18 mm, UV intensity = 90 W, and reaction time = 80 min. Furthermore, the photo-electrocatalytic degradation of cVMSs obeys the pseudo-first order kinetic reaction, and the anode exhibited high durability as the attenuation of cVMSs removal efficiency was <6% after four times reuse. It was also observed that with the application period of the anode was extended, the electroflocculation reaction gradually occurred. The FT-IR of the generated flocs and the total ion gas chromatograms mass spectrometer analysis unraveled the methyl groups in Si-CH3 could be easily attacked by hydroxyl radicals to form the intermediates of monohydroxy substituted products (m/z = 298, 372, and 446) and eventually short-chain carboxylic acids, alkyl radical and silicate. The effective removal of cVMSs by photo-electrocatalytic process using ZnO@Al anode provide significant implication in treatment of practical wastewater.

In this present study, a series of 5-phenyl-2-furan and 4-phenyl-2-oxazole derivatives were designed and synthesized as phosphodiesterase type 4 (PDE4) inhibitors. In vitro results showed that the synthesized compounds exhibited considerable inhibitory activity against PDE4B and blockade of LPS-induced TNF-alpha release. Among the designed compounds, Compound 5j exhibited lower IC50 value (1.4 mu M) against PDE4 than parent rolipram (2.0 mu M) in in vitro enzyme assay, which also displayed good in vivo activity in animal models of asthma/COPD and sepsis induced by LPS. Docking results suggested that introduction of methoxy group at para-position of phenyl ring, demonstrated good interaction with metal binding pocket domain of PDE4B, which was helpful to enhance inhibitory activity. Impermeability Performance and Corrosion Resistance Mechanism of Basalt Fiber Recycled Concrete Under the Coastal Tidal Environment

The development of the modernization process has resulted in the consumption of natural resources and the accumulation of construction waste, and the environmental bearing capacity faces severe challenges to a certain extent. The recovery and reuse of concrete is one of the effective ways to alleviate the environmental load. However, pouring concrete with recycled aggregate inevitably reduces the strength of the building. More seriously, the coastal tidal environment can have a coupled effect of salt erosion and dry-wet cycles on concrete components, thereby shortening the service life of concrete. The incorporation of fibers can improve the performance of the Recycled Aggregate Concrete (RAC) under special conditions. This article analyzes the changes in the performance of concrete specimens under different Basalt Fiber (BF) volume ratios (0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5%) and composite salt simulated accelerated erosion cycles (0 d, 30 d, 60, and 90 d). The comparison results of RAC in apparent corrosion morphology, internal microstructure, and impermeability test show that BF can inhibit the expansion of microcracks and micropores in the test block and improve the overall compactness of the internal structure of RAC. When the fiber content of BF is 1.0%, the toughening effect of concrete is optimal, and impermeability and corrosion resistance of RAC are also significantly improved. Furthermore, the corrosion damage mechanism of Basalt Fiber Recycled Aggregate Concrete (BFRAC) under the combined effects of composite salts and dry-wet cycles was comprehensively summarized and substantiated through chemical reaction principles. The paper proposed a salt solution erosion model of BFRAC, which elucidates the mechanism of fiber crack resistance and explains the accelerated corrosion mechanism of salt solution from the perspective of "ion crack channels." The proposed model provides theoretical support for the salt erosion damage of fiber-reinforced concrete. © 2023, The Author

Androgen receptor (AR) has proved to be a vital drug target for treating prostate cancer. Here, we reported the discovery of a novel AR antagonist 92 targeting the AR ligand-binding pocket, but distinct from the marketed drug enzalutamide (Enz), 92 demonstrated inhibition on the AR ligand-binding domain (LBD) dimerization, which is a novel mechanism reported for the first time. First, a novel hit (26, IC50 = 5.57 mu M) was identified through virtual screening based on a theoretical AR LBD dimer bound with the Enz model. Then, guided by molecular modeling, 92 was discovered with 32.7-fold improved AR antagonistic activity (IC50 = 0.17 mu M). Besides showing high bioactivity and safety, 92 can inhibit AR nuclear translocation. Furthermore, 92 inhibited the formation of the AR LBD dimer, possibly through attenuating the hydrogen-bonding network between the two monomers. This interesting finding would pave the way for the discovery of a new class of AR antagonists.

Model-based definition (MBD) carries out a technological innovation for global manufacturing, application of MBD technology plays an important supporting in process design, product manufacturing and other development activities, rapid creation of MBD models have become a key to reduce time and cost for enterprises. However, interactive dimensioning method has severely hampered the efficiency of MBD model creation. This paper mainly studies the dimensions intelligent marking method based on the predefined features to solve the rapid modeling problem of MBD model. Firstly, the expression model of dimensions metadata is established based on the feature identifier. Secondly, by establishing an association mechanism between the dimensions and the predefined feature, the "model-feature-dimensioning" association model is formed. Thirdly, through analysis of the dimensioning type, the intelligent dimensioning algorithm process is determined. Moreover, the completeness check of the dimensions is guaranteed during the marking process. Finally, taking the connecting rod and crankshaft of marine diesel as the research object, the effectiveness of this method is verified.
