A practical and scalable synthesis route of acetylphenylboronic acids is described. Bromoacetophenones(compounds 3a, 3b) were ketalized with ethylene glycol and triethyl orthoformate to give bromo ketals(compounds 4a_4c) in 60_80% yields. Compounds 4a_4b were treated with a Grignard reagent and then exchanged with borate to give p- and m-acetylphenyl boronic acids(compounds 5a and 5b) in 80% and 56% yields, respectively. The o-form(compound 5c) was obtained in 61% yield via the BuLi method.

Objective: To evaluate the local expression of CTLA4Ig gene in small intestines and its effect on prolonging survival time of the small bowel allografts. Methods: The donor small bowels were perfused ex vivo with CTLA4Ig cDNA reconstructed plasmid packaged with lipofectin vector via intra-superior mesenteric artery before transplantation. The CTLA4Ig transgene expression in the small bowel allografts was assessed by immunohistology and RT-PCR after transplantation. Results: Immunohistology and RT-PCR demonstrated expression of CTLA4Ig transgene in the allografts at least for 28 d after transplantation. Eleven cases of the 18 small bowel allografts that received CTLA4Ig gene transfection survived more than 90 d in the recipients. Conclusion: A single ex vivo intra-superior mesenteric artery infusion of CTLA4Ig cDNA reconstructed plasmid packaged with lipofectin induced efficient transduction of the small intestine, and the transfected small bowel allografts could survivor longer in nonimmunosupression rats.

Methods:The middle cerebral artery of rats was occluded for 15,30,60,90 and 120 min by an intraluminal filament respectively,and recirculation was instituted for 24 *** changes of NOS activity in ischemic core area(parietal cortex and caudoputamen)and penumbral area (frontal cortex)were examined after focal cerebral ischemia and reperfusion using NADPH-d histochemistry ***:The NOS activity of the ischemic penumbral area peaked at 60 min while the ischemic core area peaked at 30 min then declined at 90-120 min ***:NOS takes part in cerebral ischemic damage during focal cerebral ischemia and *** NOS activity of the ischemic penumbral area is different from the ischemic core *** peak time of the penumbral area is delayed comparing with the core *** data suggest that the best time to apply NOS inhibitor is within 30 min in ischemic core area, and 60 min in penumbral area.

X-ray diffraction (XRD) method to measure the residual stress in the metal substrate surface layer and the medial oxide layer between thin film and metal substrate was introduced and the sol-gel TiO2-SiO2 thin film was successfully prepared on SUS304 stainless steel substrate by dip-coating process. The macro residual stress existing in metal substrate was analyzed by XRD. It turns out that the com-pressive stress existing in the metal substrate surface layer decreases with the raising of heat-treated temperature and that the compressive stress of metal substrate surface layer and the tensile stress of the medial oxide layer increase with the increase of the withdrawal speeds of the sol-gel dip-coating. Based on the above study, colored stainless steels of high quality were prepared by sol-gel process for the first time.

A total of 94 isolates of endophytic fungi were isolated from the bark of 200-yr.-old Taxus cuspidata Sieb. et *** the primeval forest of the Changbai Mountain Natural Reserve, and 19 species of endophytic fungi were identified, including 10 new recorded-genus-species, 2 new species (Phomopsis Iongiscoleosporu Y. Xiang et Lu An Guo Wu Wen Fang, Coniothyrium macrospoum Y. Xiang J.X. et Lu An Guo Wu Wen Fang), 1 new varied species (Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler var. taxi *** et Lu An Guo) and 6 known species of China (Eurotium amstelodomi Mgngin, Eurotium repens de Bary, Botrytis sp.,Penicillium citrinum Thom, Epicoccum nigrium LinK, Fusarium sp.). Through thin layer chromatography (TLC), liquid fermentation metabolite of the strains was determined, and four strains (Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler var. taxi Y. Xiang et Lu An Guo Wu Wen Fang, Botrytis sp., Eurotium amsteloodomi Mgngin, Eurotium repens de Bary) were screened out, whose metabolites reacted positively with the vanillic aldehyde that was one special taxoid developer. Among the four strains, Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler var. taxi Y. Xiang et Lu An Guo, produced one compound largely, which positively reacted with one alkaloids developer-Bismuth potassium iodide. The compound is identified as taxoids type through spectrum analysis. This demonstrates that Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler var. taxiY. Xiang et Lu An Guo can highly produce taxoids largely.

Lions' non-overlapping domain decomposition method is analyzed and explained using an optimization approach for the typical linear model −Δ u = f· in Ω with the boundary condition u = on ∂Ω. An optimization-based domain decomposition method for the solution of partial differential equations is proposed as a variant of Lions' domain decomposition method. The crux of the method is to solve a minimization problem for which the objective functional measures the interface bias. Lions' domain decomposition method and the proposed domain decomposition iterative procedure are generalized to solve a controlled linear partial differential equation and to solve a class of nonlinear partial differential equations. Convergence of iterations and finite approximations are studied for various settings. Numerical results are presented and show that the proposed domain decomposition iterative procedure generally converges faster than Lions' domain decomposition method.

Liquid phase sintering provides a means for net-shape manufacturing, but there is a common concern about shape distortion during densification. In the present work, a theory is created to achieve densification without distortion by manipulating microstructure and its evolution during sintering. The microstructure parameters considered in this study are solid volume fraction, dihedral angle, green porosity, and green pore size. These parameters were varied to measure densification and distortion behavior during liquid phase sintering using W-Ni-Cu alloys. Green compacts were formed using ethylene-bis-stearamide as a pore-forming agent with the amount of polymer controlling the initial porosity. Different initial pore sizes were generated by varying the polymer particle size. Dihedral angle was varied by changing the Ni:Cu ratio in the alloys. Finally, the solid volume fraction was adjusted via the tungsten content. Dilatometry was employed to measure shrinkage and shrinkage rate during heating. Distortion was quantified using final compact profiles determined with a coordinate measuring machine to calculate a distortion parameter. Sintering results showed that solid volume fraction and dihedral angle are dominant factors on densification and distortion during liquid phase sintering. Distortion decreased with increasing solid volume fraction and dihedral angle, both contributing to a higher solid contiguity. Densification decreased with increasing green porosity and pore size, while initial pore structure did not show observable effects on distortion in situations of fast densification where full density is achieved. Real time video imaging and quenching results verified that densification and distortion are sequential events in liquid phase sintering with densification occurring first.
