Correlation Structures, Many-Body Scattering Processes, and the Derivation of the Gross-Pitaevskii Hierarchy

We consider the dynamics of N bosons in three dimensions. We assume that the pair interaction is given by N3 beta-1V(N-beta center dot). By studying an associated many-body wave operator, we introduce a Bogoliubov-Born-Green-Kirkwood-Yvon (BBGKY) hierarchy which takes into account all of the interparticle singular correlation structures developed by the many-body evolution from the beginning. Assuming energy conditions on the N-body wave function, for beta is an element of (0, 1], we derive the Gross-Pitaevskii hierarchy with 2-body interaction. In particular, we establish that, in the N ->infinity limit, all k-body scattering processes vanish if k >= 3 and thus provide a direct answer to a question raised by Erdos et al. [30]. Moreover, this new BBGKY hierarchy shares the limit points with the ordinary BBGKY hierarchy strongly for beta is an element of (0, 1) and weakly for beta = 1. Since this new BBGKY hierarchy converts the problem from a two-body estimate to a weaker three-body estimate for which we have the estimates to achieve beta < 1, it then allows us to prove that all limit points of the ordinary BBGKY hierarchy satisfy the space-time bound conjectured by Klainerman and Machedon [48] for beta is an element of (0, 1).

A two-terminal self-powered optoelectronic structure could mimic synaptic functions of a human brain synapse unit(Figure 1(a)) based on the photovoltaic effects [1], demonstrating the potential for decreasing energy consumption for future computing. However, current self-powered optoelectronic synaptic devices face issues of stability and cost,which mainly arise from noble metal electrodes and independent hole transport layers used in these structures. Substituting low-cost carbon for these metal electrodes and carrier transport layers may promise to solve these challenges.

Under the background of energy internet, a large influx of market entities participates in the interaction of "source network and load storage" and becomes an important resource for system regulation through the electricity marketization. Among them, the virtual power plant involves several market participators such as the distributed generation, demand side adjustable resources, distributed energy storage. The research of the operation mechanism and market-oriented trading organization for the virtual power plant becomes a popular topic in recent years. Assessing the prognostic impact of prostatic urethra involvement and developing a nomogram for T1 stage bladder cancer

Purpose To investigate prognostic values of prostatic urethra involvement (PUI) and construct a prognostic model that estimates the probability of cancer-specific survival for T1 bladder cancer patients. Method and materials We investigated the national Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database (2004-2015) to get patients diagnosed with T1 bladder cancer. An external validation cohort was obtained from the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University. The Kaplan-Meier method with the log-rank test was applied to assess cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS). Moreover, the propensity score matching (PSM) and multivariable Cox proportional hazard model were performed. All patients were randomly divided into the development cohort and validation group at the ratio of 7:3. The performance of the model was internally validated by calibration curves and the concordance index (C-index). Results The PUI group had a lower survival rate of both CSS and overall survival OS before and after PSM when compared to non-involved patients (All P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed a poor prognosis in the PUI group for cancer-specific mortality (CSM) and all-cause mortality (ACM) analyses before and after PSM (All P < 0.05). Seven variables, including age, surgery, radiotherapy, tumour size, PUI, and marital status, were incorporated in the final nomogram. The C-index in the development cohort was 0.715 (0.711-0.719), while it was 0.672 (0.667-0.677) in the validation group. Calibration plots for 3- and 5-year cancer-specific survival showed good concordance in the development and validation cohorts. Conclusions PUI was an independent risk factor of ACM and CSM in T1 bladder cancer patients. In addition, a highly discriminative and precise nomogram that predicted the individualized probability of cancer-specific survival for patients with T1 bladder cancer was constructed.

Probing the surface forces between air bubbles and bitumen via direct force Measurements: Effects of aqueous chemistry

The surface interactions of air bubbles and other components (e.g., particles, oil droplets) significantly influence the operation efficiency of a variety of engineering processes such as oily water treatment, bitumen extraction and flotation. Herein, the surface interactions of air bubbles with two types of Athabasca bitumen samples in aqueous solutions of varying pH, salinity, type of cations and in the presence of surfactants have been systematically characterized using a bubble probe atomic force microscope (AFM) technique. AFM imaging has revealed that exposure to high concentrations of NaCl and CaCl2 solutions or alkaline environments causes roughening of the bitumen surfaces. The results of surface force measurements demonstrate that the interaction and attachment behaviors between bubbles and bitumen are significantly affected by ionic strength, solution pH, and the presence of surfactants. The experimental force measurement results could be accurately described by a theoretical model that incorporates Reynolds lubrication theory and augmented Young-Laplace equation, with the inclusion of disjoining pressure. In low-salinity conditions, the bubble-bitumen interaction is dominated by electric double layer (EDL) repulsion, which prevents surface attachment. This effect is more pronounced at elevated pH conditions. In high-salinity solutions, however, the EDL interactions are significantly reduced, and the hydrophobic interaction becomes the dominant factor, overcoming the van der Waals repulsion and leading to the attachment of bubbles to bitumen surfaces. Raising aqueous pH weakens the bubble-bitumen hydrophobic interaction, whereas the introduction of calcium ions strengthens this interaction, resulting in enhanced surface attachment. Interestingly, even in high-salinity conditions, the presence of a small number of surfactants can inhibit bubble-bitumen contact, mainly caused by reduced hydrophobic attraction and increased steric repulsion. Efficient Removal and Recovery of Phosphorus from Industrial Wastewater in the Form of Vivianite

With the shortage of phosphorus resources, the concept of phosphorus recovery from wastewater is generally proposed. Recently, phosphorus recovery from wastewater in the form of vivianite has been widely reported, which could be used as a slow-release fertilizer as well as the production of lithium iron phosphate for Li-ion batteries. In this study, chemical precipitation thermodynamic modeling was applied to evaluate the effect of solution factors on vivianite crystallization with actual phosphorus containing industrial wastewater. The modeling results showed that the solution pH influences the concentration of diverse ions, and the initial Fe2+ concentration affects the formation area of vivianite. The saturation index (SI) of vivianite increased with the initial Fe2+ concentration and Fe:P molar ratio. pH 7.0, initial Fe2+ concentration 500 mg/L and Fe:P molar ratio 1.50 were the optimal conditions for phosphorus recovery. Mineral Liberation Analyzer (MLA) accurately determined the purity of vivianite was 24.13%, indicating the feasibility of recovering vivianite from industrial wastewater. In addition, the cost analysis showed that the cost of recovering phosphorus by the vivianite process was 0.925 USD/kg P, which can produce high-value vivianite products and realize "turn waste into treasure". © 2022, The Authors. Time-dependent gut microbiota analysis of juvenile Oreochromis niloticus by dietary supplementation of resveratrol

To evaluate the changes in bacterial diversity at various time points under resveratrol supplementation, we aimed to investigate the diversification of gut microbiota and the changes in total genetic diversity. We performed 16S rDNA gene sequencing at different time points (15, 30, and 45 days) to analyze the gut microbiota of tilapia. Fusobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Bacteroidetes (15 days) or Cyanobacteria (30 and 45 days) were found to be the three most abundant phyla. Cyanobacteria (15 and 30 days), Proteobacteria (15 days), Firmicutes and Chlamydiae (30 and 45 days), Planctomycetes (30 days), Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, and Fusobacteria (45 days) in the 0.05 g/kg RES group increased as compared to that in the controls. Proteobacteria and Cyanobacteria significantly decreased and increased at 30 and 45 days, respectively, while the reverse pattern was observed at 15 days. The Bacteroidetes:Firmicutes and Proteobacteria:Cyanobacteria ratios were significantly increased (15 and 45 days, P < 0.05) and decreased (30 days, P < 0.05). RES supplementation did not affect the richness and diversity of the gut microbiota in tilapia. Our findings may contribute to the development of strategies for the management of diseases.

Recent Advances in Mechano-Responsive Hydrogels for Biomedical Applications

Mechanical responsiveness is prevalent in biological systems and plays an essential role in many biomechanical processes. The past two decades have witnessed enormous effort devoted to the development of biomimetic mechano-responsive hydrogels which are capable of adapting their physical and chemical properties to external mechanical stimuli. Due to the combination of tissue similarity and mechano-responsive properties, this type of hydrogel offers great advantages for diverse biomedical applications. Strain-stiffening and self-healing hydrogels duplicate the physiological properties of biological tissues, serving as promising candidates for artificial tissues, tissue scaffolds, and wound dressings. The shear-thinning property provides the hydrogels injectability, and the regional delivery contributes to minimally invasive treatment. Mechanochromic hydrogels allow the direct visualization of mechanical stress, holding great promise in biosensing and diagnosing. This review highlights the most recent developments in mechano-responsive hydrogels with various applications in the biomedical field. Different types of mechano-responsive hydrogels are introduced with focus on their responsive mechanisms, design strategies, and in vitro/in vivo performances, providing useful insights into the understanding and future research directions of mechano-responsive hydrogels with applications in biomedical engineering.

BACKGROUND: Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is a standard for the diagnosis of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, clinically, some cases with normal results were diagnosed as GDM in the third trimester. OBJECTIVE: To establish a risk model based on energy metabolism, epidemiology, and biochemistry that could predict the GDM pregnant women with normal OGTT results in the second trimester. METHODS: Qualitative and quantitative data were analyzed to find out the risk factors, and the binary logistic backward LR regression was used to establish the prediction model of each factor and comprehensive factor, respectively. RESULTS: The risk factors including the rest energy expenditure per kilogram of body weight, oxygen consumption per kilogram of body weight, if more than the weight gain criteria of the Institute of Medicine, the increase of body mass index between the second trimester and pre-pregnancy, and fasting blood glucose. By comparison, the comprehensive model had the best prediction performance, indicating that 85% of high-risk individuals were correctly classified. CONCLUSION: Energy metabolism, epidemiology, and biochemistry had better recognition ability for the GDM pregnant women with normal OGTT results in the second trimester. The addition of metabolic factors in the second trimester also improved the overall prediction performance.
