Electronic structure and quasiparticle state character in the ferromagnetic Kondo lattice CeNiSb2

In a heavy-fermion system, the competition between the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) interaction and the Kondo effect determines the ground-state properties, including superconductivity, magnetic orderings, and non-Fermi-liquid states. However, the temperature-dependent development of this competition remains unclear, particularly within the framework of ferromagnetic ground states. here, the electronic structure and heavy quasiparticle band properties are exhaustively studied in CeNiSb2, a prototypical ferromagnetic Kondo lattice, using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Our measurements reveal the three-dimensional electronic structure and Fermi surface topologies in CeNiSb2. The discrepancy of the quasiparticle bands along the Γ-M direction indicates band-dependent hybridization between the f electrons and conduction electrons (c−f hybridization), which may arise from differences in the conduction-band properties. The intensity of the quasiparticle band increases monotonically with decreasing temperature and deviates from the Kondo-like behavior at low temperature. This evolution provides a comprehensive picture of how the RKKY interaction and the Kondo effect develop and influence the behavior of f electrons across the temperature range. Our experimental results offer a spectroscopic study of the quasiparticle band and its temperature-dependent evolution in CeNiSb2, which may be crucial for understanding the underlying physics in heavy fermion compounds.

The heat injection during depressurization is a crucial technique for sustaining the long-term gas production rate of natural gas hydrate. To analyze the production patterns and mechanisms of hydrate dissociation under various heat injection conditions and to further optimize heat injection strategies, this study establishes a reservoir-scale three-dimensional heterogeneous computational model using a self-developed hydrate simulator. A novel in-situ heating method utilizing bottom seawater is proposed for heat injection, and comprehensive analyses of heating power and injection rates are conducted. The results indicate that increasing heating power at a constant injection rate enhances gas production rates while reducing thermal efficiency. Simultaneously, under constant heating power, gas production rates initially increase and then decrease with increasing injection rates, revealing the presence of an optimal injection rate. This paper introduces the concepts of temperature driving force and temperature modification ratio, analyzes the mechanisms of heat injection development, and derives an optimized strategy for hot water injection through curve fitting. This research enhances our understanding of the integrated approach involving thermal stimulation and depressurization, providing significant guidance for future production endeavors.

Impact of dissolved oxygen on the microbial community structure of an intermittent biological aerated filter (IBAF) and the removal efficiency of gasification wastewater

A novel IBAF system (altered conventional biological aerated filter (BAF) for intermittent aeration) was used to treat BDD anodes electrochemical oxidation gasification wastewater effluent, after which 454 pyrosequencing was applied to investigate the bacterial community of IBAF and demonstrate the relationship between dissolved oxygen (DO) and the bacterial community. The results showed that the concentration of COD, NH4+-N and NO3--N reached 55.08, 7.64 and 7.76 mg/L, respectively, in IBAF effluent because of changes in the DO concentration at 30 days after system start-up. The bacterial community results revealed that the 40 cm sample had the highest bacterial diversity. The bacterial species were approximate in total samples at phylum and family level, but the relative abundance was significantly different because of change in DO concentration. In addition, sample distance analysis indicated that the similarity of different samples was related to the DO concentration at different heights.

Carbon sequestration in overlying methane hydrate layers via hydrate technology: Feasibility and synergistic benefits

Excessive carbon dioxide emissions pose a global environmental issue, and carbon sequestration technology offers a solution. This study based on independently developed simulator proposes a novel approach for carbon dioxide sequestration in the overlying layers of methane hydrate reservoirs using carbon dioxide hydrate technology. The feasibility and risks of this method are evaluated over a time scale of 100,000 years. Results show that carbon dioxide migrates upwards after injection, forming highly saturated hydrate shells at the migration front. Within these carbon dioxide hydrate shells, a portion of the carbon dioxide is sequestered in liquid and dissolved forms;however, over tens of thousands of years, 20% of the COQ will dissolve, while less than 1% will escape. The study highlights the synergy between methane hydrate extraction and carbon sequestration, as the cold seawater down draw effect from extraction enhances sequestration efficiency and safety. Given the widespread distribution of methane hydrate reservoirs globally, this research provides new insights into carbon sequestration technology.

Carbon dioxide sequestration is a crucial strategy for achieving carbon neutrality. This study explores a novel approach to carbon dioxide storage in marine environments in the form of hydrate, addressing the stringent site requirements of traditional geological storage methods. Using a custom-developed simulator, a conceptual model for carbon dioxide sequestration in subsea reservoirs under a horizontal well network configuration was constructed. Key factors, including seawater depth, injection depth, and well spacing, were analyzed through simulations to quantify carbon dioxide storage capacity and assess associated risks under various sequestration scenarios. The results indicate that increasing seawater depth boosts both COQ storage capacity and safety, while deeper injection enhances safety but reduces hydrate storage capacity and raises leakage potential. Closer well spacing improves early-stage safety but increases long-term risks. The study outlines distinct sequestration stages and provides detailed analyses of COQ migration and phase transformations over time, contributing insights for advancing COQ sequestration strategies.

TMEM35B as a novel biomarker for diagnosing gliomas

AimsThere is little information about transmembrane protein 35B (TMEM35B) expression in glioma, and its functions in glioma remains no *** & MethodsImmunohistochemistry was used to measure TMEM35B expression levels and CCK8 and Transwell assays were analyzed the proliferative and migratory and ***35B protein was significantly higher in gliomas and correlated with a higher tumor TNM stages. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis revealed that TMEM35B had high diagnostic value in distinguishing among glioma, normal tissues, tumor stages III+IV, and I+II. Additionally, TMEM35B knockdown inhibited the proliferative, migratory, and invasive capacities of glioma ***35B expression is upregulated in gliomas, and its knockdown hinders tumor progression, highlighting the protein as a potential biomarker for glioma diagnosis.

Natural gas hydrate represents an environmentally friendly alternative energy. However, the low-permeability hydrate reservoirs pose significant challenges to commercial production. To optimize hydrate production, reservoir stimulation methods like hydraulic fracturing, gas fracturing, and explosive fracturing are potential. In the investigation of the fracturing effect on hydrate dissociation behavior, we developed a three-dimensional model that comprehensively incorporates the arrangement of fracture planes, encompassing fracture permeability, spacing, and height. The model was implemented using a self-developed hydrate simulator which was validated at multiple scales. We firstly conducted a comparative analysis, contrasting the conventional depressurization method in horizontal wells with a combined depressurization and fracturing method. The comparison suggested that fracturing brings significant promotion (113.5%) on hydrate dissociation. Sensitivity analysis revealed fracture permeability and fracture height evidently exhibit an optimal value that facilitates the dissociation behavior. The optimal value of fracture permeability is dependent on the geological background. The optimal value of fracture height occurs just before penetrating the hydrate-bearing sediment layer and the overlying/underlying formations, i.e., near the thickness of the hydrate-bearing sediment layer. The impact of spacing on gas volume is limited while decreasing the spacing leads to more evident localized dissociation and differential subsidence of hydrate reservoir. It is necessary to balance production and geological risks when selecting the fracture spacing. The conclusions suggest that the fracturing operation need to be optimized by controlling the injection rate and the fracturing interval. The issue of thermal loss during the depressurization extraction of natural gas hydrates has long been a significant challenge for achieving long-term stable production. In the context of thermal stimulation extraction, researchers have proposed four injection methods: hot water injection, steam injection, wellbore electric heating, and low-frequency electric heating, and have conducted relevant studies. However, a comprehensive evaluation comparing the advantages and disadvantages of these four thermal stimulation extraction methods is still lacking. This research, using a self-developed hydrate numerical simulator, constructed extraction class III hydrate deposits models for the four injection methods and conducted long-term extraction simulations over a period of five years. The results indicate that low-frequency electric heating significantly enhances extraction efficiency under various permeability reservoir conditions. Its ability to achieve a large heating range and provide wellbore protection confers distinct advantages. In contrast, the hot water injection method imposes stringent requirements on reservoir permeability. Both steam injection and wellbore electric heating exhibit notable similarities in multiple physical fields and fluid production outcomes. This study offers valuable insights and reference points for the selection of thermal stimulation methods in future hydrate extraction engineering.

Research on residual stress evolution of diesel engine piston manufacturing based on finite element method

Residual stresses generated during casting and heat treatment are one of the major challenges faced by piston manufacturing. Therefore, the change of piston residual stress from casting stage to heat treatment stage is studied by orthogonal experiment and single factor experiment. A finite element model is established to simulate the casting process and heat treatment process, the parameters such as pouring temperature, mold temperature and shake-out temperature are mainly considered in the casting simulation, while the parameters such as heating rate, holding temperature, holding time and cooling rate are mainly studied in the heat treatment simulation. At the same time, the residual stress of the piston after casting and heat treatment is measured by X-ray diffraction to verify the simulation results. The results show that the average residual stress at each measuring point of the piston is 223.6 MPa when there is no sand falling in the casting stage. The residual stress field of the piston is redistributed after sand falling, and the average residual stress value is 161 MPa, which is reduced by 29% before and after sand falling. heat treatment can significantly reduce or even eliminate the residual stress. The average residual stress of piston is reduced to 15.2 MPa, accompanied by the great release of residual stress. This study provides a cross-software multi-process residual stress analysis method, which is of great significance for reducing and eliminating casting residual stress.

Discovery of potent thiazolidin-4-one sulfone derivatives for inhibition of proliferation of osteosarcoma in vitro and in vivo

Chemotherapy combining with surgical treatment has been the main strategy for osteosarcoma treatment in clinical. Due to unclear pathogenesis and unidentified drug targets, significant progress has not been made in the development of targeted drugs for osteosarcoma during the past 50 years. Our previous discovery reported compound R-8i with a high potency for the treatment of osteosarcoma by phenotypic screening. However, both the metabolic stability and bioavailability of R-8i are poor (T1/2 = 5.36 min, mouse liver microsome;and bioavailability in vivo F = 52.1 %, intraperitoneal administration) which limits it use for further drug development. here, we described an extensive structure-activity relationship study of thiazolidine-4-one sulfone inhibitors from R-8i, which led to the discovery of compound 68. Compound 68 had a potent cellular activity with an IC50 value of 0.217 mu M, much higher half-life (T1/2 = 73.8 min, mouse liver microsome) and an excellent pharmacokinetic profile (in vivo bioavailability F = 115 %, intraperitoneal administration). Compound 68 also showed good antitumor effects and low toxicity in a xenograft model (44.6 % inhibition osteosarcoma growth in BALB/c mice). These results suggest that compound 68 is a potential drug candidate for the treatment of osteosarcoma.
