Along-Strike Morphologic Variations of the Kyushu-Palau Ridge at 13°-17° N and Their Tectonic Implications

The paper provides a detailed description of the topographical distribution characteristics, along-strike morphologic variations, and tectonic implications of the Kyushu-Palau Ridge (KPR) in the 13 degrees-17 degrees N regions. The description is based on multibeam bathymetric data that was recently collected in the mid-southern segment of KPR and its surrounding areas. The findings indicate that the KPR in the studied region comprises several discontinuous seamounts and seamount chains. Along the ridge running from east to west, there is significant variation in the topography of the seafloor. Visible on this ridge are numerous deep-sea depressions and apparent topographical discontinuities. Geological tectonic processes such as plate subduction and seafloor spreading largely determine the topography of the seafloor. During the beginning of the Parece Vela Basin (PVB) spreading, the pre-existing volcanic arcs fractured under east-west extensional stress, resulting in the development of prominent seamounts, sharp ridges, relief alternations, and rift basins in the KPR. The east-west stress was subsequently transmitted to the weak and inactive mid-ocean ridge in the West Philippine Basin (WPB), which was reactivated and resulted in an episode of magma-poor spreading during 30-26 Ma. This episode caused the KPR to move eastward, stretched, and destroyed its pre-existing structure.

In this paper, we first prove a rigidity result for a Serrin-type partially overdetermined problem in the half-space, which gives a characterization of capillary spherical caps by the overdetermined problem. In the second part, we prove quantitative stability results for the Serrin-type partially overdetermined problem, as well as capillary almost constant mean curvature hypersurfaces in the half-space. In pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), stromal cells and matrix proteins form a dense physical barrier that, while preventing the outward spread of tumor cells, also limits the penetration of drugs and CD8+ T cells inward. Additionally, the overactivated TGF-beta/SMAD signaling pathway further promotes matrix proliferation and immune suppression. Therefore, crossing the stromal barrier while preserving the integrity of the stroma, releasing drugs intratumorally, remodeling the stroma, and activating the immune system is a promising drug delivery strategy. In this work, a type of enamine N-oxides modified nanoparticle was prepared, with stearic acid-modified gemcitabine prodrug (GemC18) and pSMAD2/3 inhibitor galunisertib encapsulated. The peripheral enamine N-oxides can trigger transcytosis and then respond to hypoxia and acidic microenvironments, turning the surface charge of the nanoparticles to a positive charge and enhancing penetration. The released galunisertib inhibits the TGF-beta/SMAD signaling pathway, reshapes the matrix, activates antitumor immunity, and combines with gemcitabine (Gem) to kill tumor cells.

In this paper, we utilize the method of Heintze-Karcher to prove a "best" version of Heintze-Karcher-type inequality for capillary hypersurfaces in the half-space or in a wedge. One of new crucial ingredients in the proof is modified parallel hypersurfaces which are very natural to be used to study capillary hypersurfaces. A more technical part is a subtle analysis along the edge of a wedge. In this paper, we show that any embedded capillary hypersurface in the half-space with anisotropic constant mean curvature is a truncated Wulff shape. Both submarine landslides and submarine canyons can transfer large amounts of terrigenous quantities from the continental shelf to the deep sea. In some cases, they can have a close relationship to their spatial distribution, formation and evolution. Submarine landslides on the shelf-slope can provide early depressions for submarine canyons, representing the early stage of submarine canyons. The continuous downcutting process during the evolution of submarine canyons can steepen the gradient of the canyon sidewalls, which can lead to the occurrence of submarine landslides. However, the role of submarine canyons in the initiation of slope failure has been overlooked. In this study, high-resolution multibeam bathymetry data, submarine image data and 2-D seismic data were used to investigate two adjacent submarine landslides developed on the northern slope of the Xisha Trough and the spatiotemporal relationship of these landslides to the Central Canyon. We identified a steep downslope between the submarine landslides and the Central Canyon. The Central Canyon formation age was much earlier than those of the submarine landslides. The Central Canyon is filled with modern submarine landslide deposits. The characteristics of the multiple failure scarps indicate retrogressive failure of the submarine landslides. We suggest that the submarine landslides developed on the northern slope of the Xisha Trough Basin have finally been captured by the Central Canyon. We determined that the emptying of sediments at the end of the northern slope of the Xisha Trough Basin caused by the development of the Central Canyon caused the end of the northern slope of the Xisha Trough Basin to lose support, which may have affected the slope stability and could have even played a role in the initiation of submarine landslides. Consequently, the slope area along the Central Canyon may be susceptible to slope instability and slope failure processes.

A surfactant interfacial adsorption process is highly associated with its micellization behaviors in the water phase, which is of great fundamental and practical significance in enhanced oil recovery. In this paper, the typical anionic surfactant 1-dodecanesulfonic acid sodium (DAS) and nonionic surfactants octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether-n (OP-n, n = 1, 5, and 10) are introduced to investigate their micellization behavior and interfacial adsorption process via molecular dynamics simulation. Number density profiles reveal that the additional OP5 molecules in the water phase generate the mixed micelle with DAS molecules and greatly promote its interfacial adsorption. Interaction energy calculation is employed to confirm the interaction of anionic/nonionic surfactants in the mixed micelle. Then, the radial distribution function, solvent-accessible surface area, and solvation free energy are calculated to further explore and verify the adsorption mechanism of the mixed micelle. It is found that the nonionic surfactant obviously decreases the hydrophilicity of the mixed micelle in the water phase, which should be responsible for its intensive tendency of the interfacial adsorption.

Influence of coded mask rotation speed and central detector to imaging performance for time-encoded imager

Time-encoded imaging could be useful for searching potential radioactive sources for preventing illicit trans-portation and trafficking of nuclear materials. A 2-D, dual-particle, time-encoded imager was developed for gamma-ray and neutron source imaging. The influence of central detector and coded mask rotation speed to imaging performance, such as angular resolution, signal-to-noise ratio and detection time, was investigated by Am-Be neutron source imaging experiments. The EJ276 plastic scintillator (Size: phi 5.08 cm x 5.08 cm) and CLYC scintillator (Size: phi 2.54 cm x 2.54 cm) couple to photomultiplier tubes was set as the central detector, respectively. Under the experiment conditions (Am-Be neutron source;300 mCi;1.8 m), for the neutron and gamma-ray images with EJ276 detector, the best horizontal and vertical angular resolution was (3.7 degrees, 4.8 degrees) and (5.9 degrees, 6.6 degrees), minimum detection time was 100 s and 600 s, respectively;for the neutron and gamma-ray images with CLYC detector, the best horizontal, vertical angular resolution was (3.1 degrees, 3.1 degrees) and (3.5 degrees, 3.3 degrees), minimum detection time was 2200 s and 1600 s, respectively. For different central detector, the results showed that the smaller volume of detector, the better angular resolution;the lower detection efficiency, the longer detection time. For different rotation speed, too fast rotation speed can lead to failure to locate the source.
