Computerized analysis of acceleration parameter for the non-stress test normal and potentially abnormal fetuses

Non-stress testing (NST) is the primary method of determining fetal condition during the perinatal period, and as such, has high specificity. However, short-term monitoring and visual inspection of the cardiotocogram demonstrates several limitations in understanding fetal status which can be mistaken as predictors of neonatal asphyxia. Fetal electrocardiography (FECG) is a novel, long-term monitoring method which can reflect more objective and accurate fetal information. This article presents experimental results of four fetal heart rate (FHR) acceleration features of 44 fetuses extracted from FECG. The novelty of this approach lies in its combined use of parameters which can express both duration and amplitude of heart rate acceleration. Results demonstrate that most parameters significantly differ between normal fetuses and fetuses with suspected abnormalities. Results are promising for the identification of a set or parameters which may be used as classifiers to improve the success rate when distinguishing between normal and abnormal fetuses.

A novel injectable calcium phosphate-based nanocomposite for the augmentation of cannulated pedicle-screw fixation

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-augmented cannulated pedicle-screw fixation has been routinely performed for the surgical treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases. Despite its satisfactory clinical outcomes and prevalence, problems and complications associated with high-strength, stiff, and nondegradable PMMA have largely hindered the long-term efficacy and safety of pedicle-screw fixation in osteoporotic patients. To meet the unmet need for better bone cement for cannulated pedicle-screw fixation, a new injectable and biodegradable nanocomposite that was the first of its kind was designed and developed in the present study. The calcium phosphate-based nanocomposite (CPN) exhibited better anti-pullout ability and similar fluidity and dispersing ability compared to clinically used PMMA, and outperformed conventional calcium phosphate cement (CPC) in all types of mechanical properties, injectability, and biodegradability. In term of axial pullout strength, the CPN-augmented cannulated screw reached the highest force of similar to 120 N, which was higher than that of PMMA (similar to 100 N) and CPC (similar to 95 N). The compressive strength of the CPN (50 MPa) was three times that of CPC, and the injectability of the CPN reached 95%. In vivo tests on rat femur revealed explicit biodegradation of the CPN and subsequent bone ingrowth after 8 weeks. The promising results for the CPN clearly suggest its potential for replacing PMMA in the application of cannulated pedicle-screw fixation and its worth of further study and development for clinical uses.

CUG-STCN: A seabed topography classification framework based on knowledge graph-guided vision mamba network

Multibeam sounding is a high-precision remote sensing method for seabed detection. Seabed topography classification is crucial for marine science research, resource exploration and engineering. When using multibeam data for seabed topography automatic classification, the fuzzy boundaries of different topographic entities, redundancy of multimodal data, and the lack of geological knowledge guidance have led to low classification accuracy. Thus, a knowledge graph-guided vision mamba seabed topography classification network (CUG-STCN) was constructed, consisting of three modules: (1) The long sequence modeling mamba-based encoder addresses the fuzzy seabed topography boundary. It uses 2D-selective-scan to create image blocks in different scanning directions. By combining with the selective state space model to capture long-range dependencies and ensure transmission of spatial context information while maintaining linear computational complexity. (2) The crossmodal information interaction and fusion module addresses the redundancy of multimodal information. By employing a bidirectional information interaction mechanism, it captures the correlations of seabed topography between different modalities and achieving feature fusion. (3) The seabed topography knowledge graph-guided semantic perception module guides the geological knowledge. It constructs seabed topography knowledge vectors through entity query and word embedding, using the similarity between vectors to create a similarity measurement matrix. It provides geological knowledge, enhancing the modeling capability of complex seabed topography relationship. CUG-STCN achieves OA of 90.11% and mIOU of 48.50%, outperforming six mainstream networks, which at most, achieve the OA and mIOU improvements of 5.37% and 14.18%. Notably, the application of CUG-STCN in other regions demonstrates its strong generalization performance.

In recent years, pregnant women in China generally face problems such as unbalanced and excessive nutrition, lack of proper exercise during pregnancy, which shows a significant increase in weight during pregnancy, leading to an increasing trend of perinatal complications. At present, there is less sports health management system for pregnant women throughout pregnancy. In view of this, based on the existing research in related fields, this study deeply explores the appropriate monitoring methods of pregnant women's sports in China. In this study, effective and convenient testing methods and evaluation criteria were proposed for pregnant women's sports and psychology. The research idea was a method based on the pulse wave to detect pregnant women's cardiac reserve capacity, and grading the Diastolic/Systolic value of pregnant women as a reference for grading individualized target heart rate range of moderate intensity exercise. The effective time and energy expenditure of pregnant women were assessed by monitoring the exercise process. The purpose is to help and guide pregnant women in the whole process of pregnancy self-movement management, and thus improve the quality of maternal health care services in China.

Interaction and sorption mechanisms of phthalate plasticizers and Cd²⁺ on biochar

Biochar exhibits significant potential for the remediation of soil contaminated with organic pollutants and heavy metals. A comprehensive understanding of the interfacial interactions and sorption mechanisms of lowhydrophobicity phthalate plasticizers, such as dimethyl phthalate (DMP) and diethyl phthalate (DEP), along with Cd2+ on biochar, is essential for the effective remediation of polluted soil environments. This study systematically examines the interaction and sorption mechanisms of PAEs-Cd2+ on biochar at both macro and micro levels using sorption batch experiments and molecular dynamics simulations. The sorption of contaminants by biochar occurred through a combination of physical and chemical mechanisms. The presence of coexisting pollutants reduced the sorption capacity of biochar to PAEs but had a minimal effect on Cd2+ adsorption. In the co-sorption system, PAEs and Cd2+ demonstrated distinct interaction behaviors. Due to its smaller molecular size and higher diffusion coefficient, Cd2+ readily bonded to surface sorption sites on biochar and infiltrated its pores. Although PAE-ion complexes enhanced the sorption of pollutants by biochar, PAE molecules, and cluster structures primarily accumulated on the biochar surface, interacting with heavy metals through electrostatic forces. This interaction reduced the contribution of pore filling to pollutant sorption and weakened the desorption hysteresis capacity of biochar. The intraparticle diffusion model had similar results. Thus, a larger specific surface area and an abundant pore structure are crucial factors in improving the co-sorption capacity of biochar. This study offers novel insights into the sorption behavior of PAEs and Cd2+ on biochar within organicinorganic composite pollution.

Carbon sequestration in overlying methane hydrate layers via hydrate technology: Feasibility and synergistic benefits

Excessive carbon dioxide emissions pose a global environmental issue, and carbon sequestration technology offers a solution. This study based on independently developed simulator proposes a novel approach for carbon dioxide sequestration in the overlying layers of methane hydrate reservoirs using carbon dioxide hydrate technology. The feasibility and risks of this method are evaluated over a time scale of 100,000 years. Results show that carbon dioxide migrates upwards after injection, forming highly saturated hydrate shells at the migration front. Within these carbon dioxide hydrate shells, a portion of the carbon dioxide is sequestered in liquid and dissolved forms;however, over tens of thousands of years, 20% of the COQ will dissolve, while less than 1% will escape. The study highlights the synergy between methane hydrate extraction and carbon sequestration, as the cold seawater down draw effect from extraction enhances sequestration efficiency and safety. Given the widespread distribution of methane hydrate reservoirs globally, this research provides new insights into carbon sequestration technology.

Analysis of ginsenosides in Panax ginseng in high pressure microwave-assisted extraction

High pressure microwave assisted extraction (HPMAE) was applied to extract the ginsenosides from Panax ginseng root. The influences of extraction solvent, extraction pressure and extraction time were individually investigated. HPMAE has been compared with other extraction methods, including Soxhlet extraction, ultrasound-assisted extraction and heat reflux extraction. The determination of ginsenosides was performed by HPLC-ESI-MS. The results indicated that the HPMAE not only took a shorter time but also afforded higher extraction yields of ginsenosides, especially ginsenoside Rb-1, Rc, Rb-2 and Rd. Furthermore, the neutral ginsenosides and malonyl ginsenosides in Panax ginseng root extracts by HPMAE were investigated. The malonyl ginsenoside m-Rb-1, m-Rc, m-Rb-2 and m-Rd degraded in HPMAE at 400 kPa (109-112 degrees C) in 70% (v/v) ethanol-water and at 600 kPa (112-115 degrees C) in methanol, and transformed into corresponding neutral ginsenoside Rb-1, Rc, Rb-2 and Rd. Using water as extraction solution, tile neutral ginsenosides degraded under HPMAE at 400 kPa (135-140 degrees C), and transformed into less polarity rare ginsenosides. (c) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. Steroidal saponins from the roots of Polygonatum odoratum and their inhibitory effects against pancreatic lipase

Twenty steroidal saponins were isolated from the water extract of fresh fibrous roots of Polygonatum odoratum (Mill.) Druce, of which seven were new compounds (1-7) along with thirteen known compounds (8-20). Their chemical structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic and chemical techniques. All isolated compounds were evaluated for porcine pancreatic lipase inhibitory activity. Compounds 9 and 10 showed inhibitory effects with IC50 values of 201.90 +/- 0.036 mu M and 151.20 +/- 0.058 mu M (positive control orlistat;2.82 +/- 0.060 mu M).

Comprehensive feasibility analysis of carbon dioxide hydrate sequestration: A numerical study based on horizontal well networks

Carbon dioxide sequestration is a crucial strategy for achieving carbon neutrality. This study explores a novel approach to carbon dioxide storage in marine environments in the form of hydrate, addressing the stringent site requirements of traditional geological storage methods. Using a custom-developed simulator, a conceptual model for carbon dioxide sequestration in subsea reservoirs under a horizontal well network configuration was constructed. Key factors, including seawater depth, injection depth, and well spacing, were analyzed through simulations to quantify carbon dioxide storage capacity and assess associated risks under various sequestration scenarios. The results indicate that increasing seawater depth boosts both COQ storage capacity and safety, while deeper injection enhances safety but reduces hydrate storage capacity and raises leakage potential. Closer well spacing improves early-stage safety but increases long-term risks. The study outlines distinct sequestration stages and provides detailed analyses of COQ migration and phase transformations over time, contributing insights for advancing COQ sequestration strategies.
