Here we present our investigations into the impac. of the addition of 2 '-fuc.syllac.ose '-fuc.syllac.ose (2'-FL) and galac.ooligosac.harides (GOS), whic. are non-digestible c.rbohydrates added to infant formula, as the sole c.rbon sourc. during the growth of B. adolesc.ntis and B. infantis. . Intriguingly, B. adolesc.ntis produc.d EPS with larger molec.lar weights in the presenc. of GOS or a mixture of GOS/2'-FL. B. infantis showed inc.eased growth levels in the presenc. of 2'-FL, and also produc.d an alpha-1,4-gluc.n polymer, whose amount was inc.eased when grown on GOS. These findings highlight the spec.es-spec.fic.effec.s of growth c.nditions on EPS struc.ures.

Toward Versatile Small Objec. Detec.ion with Temporal-YOLOv8

Deep learning has bec.me the preferred method for automated objec. detec.ion, but the ac.urate detec.ion of small objec.s remains a c.allenge due to the lac. of distinc.ive appearanc. features. Most deep learning-based detec.ors do not exploit the temporal information that is available in video, even though this c.ntext is often essential when the signal-to-noise ratio is low. In addition, model development c.oic.s, suc. as the loss func.ion, are typic.lly designed around medium-sized objec.s. Moreover, most datasets that are ac.uired for the development of small objec. detec.ors are task-spec.fic.and lac. diversity, and the smallest objec.s are often not well annotated. In this study, we address the aforementioned c.allenges and c.eate a deep learning-based pipeline for versatile small objec. detec.ion. With an in-house dataset c.nsisting of c.vilian and military objec.s, we ac.ieve a substantial improvement in YOLOv8 (baseline mAP = 0.465) by leveraging the temporal c.ntext in video and data augmentations spec.fic.lly tailored to small objec.s (mAP = 0.839). We also show the benefit of having a c.refully c.rated dataset in c.mparison with public.datasets and find that a model trained on a diverse dataset outperforms environment-spec.fic.models. Our findings indic.te that small objec.s c.n be detec.ed ac.urately in a wide range of environments while leveraging the speed of the YOLO arc.itec.ure.

Objec.ives The objec.ive of this study was to investigate the assoc.ation of radiologic.l sarc.penia and frailty with postoperative outc.mes in adult patients undergoing onc.logic.l surgery. Methods Data were derived from the PIc.Ic.study, c.nsisting of two c.nsec.tive series of patients undergoing surgic.l c.nc.r treatment. Radiologic.l sarc.penia was assessed based on c. imaging. The presenc. of low musc.e mass and/or low musc.e density was determined based on lowest quartile gender spec.fic.c.t-off values. Frailty was defined by a sc.re of >= 4 on the Groningen frailty index. Postoperative overall survival was analysed with Kaplan-Meier c.rves and Logrank testing. Multivariable c.x regression analyses adjusted for age and gender were performed to c.lc.late adjusted hazard ratios (HR). Results A total of 372 patients were inc.uded. Median age was 69 (28-86) years, 77 patients (23.5%) were frail and radiologic.l sarc.penia was present in 134 patients (41.0%). c.mbined radiologic.l sarc.penia and frailty was present in 35 patients (10.7%). One-year (65.6% versus 87.0%) and three-year survival (31.4% versus 66.8%) were signific.ntly worse in patients with c.mbined radiologic.l sarc.penia and frailty. The c.mbined presenc. of radiologic.l sarc.penia and frailty was assoc.ated with signific.ntly dec.eased overall survival (HRadjusted: 2.06, 95% c.: 1.39-3.05, P < .001). c.nc.usion c.-oc.urrenc. of radiologic.l sarc.penia and frailty is strongly related to impaired survival in surgic.l c.nc.r patients. Advanc.s in knowledge The c.mbined presenc. of radiologic.l sarc.penia and frailty is assoc.ated with dec.eased postoperative survival, strongly exc.eding the effec.s of both risk fac.ors separately. The use of radiologic.l sarc.penia in addition to frailty sc.eening c.n further optimize preoperative risk stratific.tion.

Assessment of ac.te asthma in c.ildren: do parents and healthc.re providers speak the same language?

Objec.ive: Educ.tion and self-management plans enhanc. parents' self-effic.c. in managing their c.ild's asthma symptoms. By understanding how parents rec.gnize and interpret ac.te asthma symptoms, we c.n c.mpile patient information using terms that are familiar to parents. Method: Semi-struc.ured interviews were c.rried out with 27 parents of c.ildren with asthma aged 2-12 years. The interviewees were selec.ed from three groups: parents of c.ildren admitted for ac.te asthma, parents of c.ildren rec.iving outpatient asthma c.re, and parents who had ac.ess to a self-management plan. Parents were invited to report symptoms they would assoc.ate with ac.te asthma. Subsequently, parents were queried about their rec.gnition of symptoms from a predefined list and asked to explain how they would assess these symptoms in c.se their c.ild would experienc. an attac. of ac.te asthma. Results: The most frequently reported symptoms for ac.te asthma were shortness of breath (77.8%) and c.ughing (63%). Other signs suc. as retrac.ions, nasal flaring, and wheezing were reported by less than 25% of the parents. All parents rec.gnized shortness of breath, wheezing and gasping for breath from a predefined list of medic.l terms. Retrac.ions and nasal flaring were rec.gnized by 81.5% and 66.7% of the parents, respec.ively. Rec.gnizing the medic.l terms did not nec.ssarily translate into parents being able to explain how to assess these symptoms. c.nc.usion: Parents and healthc.re professionals do not always speak the same language c.nc.rning symptoms of ac.te asthma. This may hamper timely rec.gnition and adequate self-management, highlighting the nec.ssity to adjust c.rrent medic.l information about ac.te asthma.

Finding interpretable biomec.anic.l models c.n provide insight into the func.ionality of organs with regard to physiology and disease. However, identifying broadly applic.ble dynamic.l models for in vivo tissue remains c.allenging. In this proof of c.nc.pt study we propose a rec.nstruc.ion framework for data-driven disc.very of dynamic.l models from experimentally obtained undersampled MRI spec.ral data. The method makes use of the previously developed spec.ro-dynamic.framework whic. allows for rec.nstruc.ion of displac.ment fields at high spatial and temporal resolution required for model identific.tion. The proposed framework c.mbines this method with data-driven disc.very of interpretable models using Sparse Identific.tion of Non-linear Dynamic. (SINDy). The design of the rec.nstruc.ion algorithm is suc. that a symbiotic.relation between the rec.nstruc.ion of the displac.ment fields and the model identific.tion is c.eated. Our method does not rely on periodic.ty of the motion. It is suc.essfully validated using spec.ral data of a dynamic.phantom gathered on a c.inic.l MRI sc.nner. The dynamic.phantom is programmed to perform motion adhering to 5 different (non-linear) ordinary differential equations. The proposed framework performed better than a 2-step approac. where the displac.ment fields were first rec.nstruc.ed from the undersampled data without any information on the model, followed by data-driven disc.very of the model using the rec.nstruc.ed displac.ment fields. This study serves as a first step in the direc.ion of data-driven disc.very of in vivo models.

Ministry of Health to also c.nduc. medic.l researc. and deliver highly spec.alized c.re in spec.fic.domains. This study investigates researc. c.llaboration outc.mes for all Dutc. UMc. and non-ac.demic.hospitals in general and, more spec.fic.lly, for the domains in the non-ac.demic.hospitals partic.pating in the Topc.re program. Additionally, it explores the organizational boundary work employed by these hospitals to foster produc.ive researc. *** mixed method researc. design was employed c.mbining quantitative bibliometric.analysis of public.tions and c.tations ac.oss all Dutc. UMc. and non-ac.demic.hospitals and the Topc.re domains with geographic.l distanc.s, doc.ment analysis and ethnographic.interviews with ac.ors in the Topc.re *** analysis shows that, over the period of study, international c.llaboration inc.eased among all hospitals while national c.llaboration and single institution researc. dec.ined slightly. c.llaborative efforts c.rrelated with higher impac. sc.res, and international c.llaboration sc.red higher than national c.llaboration. Male and female human soc.al bonding strategies are c.lturally shaped, in addition to being genetic.lly rooted. Investigating nonhuman primate bonding strategies ac.oss sex groups allows researc.ers to assess whether, as with humans, they are shaped by the soc.al environment or whether they are genetic.lly predisposed. Studies of wild c.impanzees show that in some c.mmunities males have strong bonds with other males, whereas in others, females form partic.larly strong intrasex bonds, potentially indic.tive of c.ltural differenc.s ac.oss populations. However, exc.uding genetic.or ec.logic.l explanations when c.mparing different wild populations is diffic.lt. Here, we applied soc.al network analysis to examine male and female soc.al bonds in two neighbouring semiwild c.impanzee groups of c.mparable ec.logic.l c.nditions and subspec.es c.mpositions, but that differ in demographic.makeup. Results showed differenc.s in bonding strategies ac.oss the two groups. While female-female party c.-residenc. patterns were signific.ntly stronger in Group 1 (whic. had an even distribution of males and females) than in Group 2 (whic. had a higher proportion of females than males), there were no suc. differenc.s for male-male or male-female assoc.ations. c.nversely, female-female grooming bonds were stronger in Group 2 than in Group 1. We also found that, in line with c.ptive studies but c.ntrasting researc. with wild c.impanzees, maternal kinship strongly predic.ed proximity and grooming patterns ac.oss the groups. Our findings suggest that, as with humans, male and female c.impanzee soc.al bonds are influenc.d by the spec.fic.soc.al group they live in, rather than predisposed sex-based bonding strategies.

Objec.ivesKnowledge of the physic.l effec.s of pulsed dye laser (PDL) treatment of psoriatic.lesions is essential in unraveling the remedial mec.anisms of this treatment and henc. also in maximizing in its disease-modifying potential. Therefore, the main objec.ive of this study was to provide estimates of these physic.l effec.s (for laser wavelengths of 585 and 595 nm), with the aim of identifying pathogenic.proc.sses that may be affec.ed by these *** modeled the laser light propagation and subsequent photothermal heating by numeric.lly solving the transient diffusion and heat equations simultaneously. To this end, we used the finite element method in c.njunc.ion with an image-derived psoriatic.lesion morphology (whic. was defined by segmenting blood vessels from a c.nfoc.l mic.osc.py image of a fluoresc.ntly labeled sec.ion of a 3 mm punc. biopsy of a psoriatic.lesion). The resulting predic.ions of the generated temperature field within the lesion were then used to assess the possibility of stalling or arresting some suspec.ed pathogenic.*** to our results, it is c.nc.ivable that perivasc.lar nerves are thermally denatured, as almost all loc.tions that reac. 60 degrees c.were found to be within 18 mu m (at 585 nm) and 11 mu m (at 595 nm) of a blood vessel wall. Furthermore, ac.ivation of TRPV1 and TRPV2 c.annels in perivasc.lar neuronal and immune c.lls is highly likely, sinc. a c.itic.l temperature of 43 degrees c.is generated at loc.tions within up to 350 mu m of a vessel wall (at both wavelengths) and sustained for up to 700 ms (at 585 nm) and 40 ms (at 595 nm), while a c.itic.l temperature of 52 degrees c.is reac.ed by loc.tions within 80 mu m (at 585 nm) and 30 mu m (at 595 nm) of a vessel wall and sustained for up to 100 ms (at 585 nm) and 30 ms (at 595 nm). Finally, we found that the blood vessel c.agulation-induc.ng temperature of 70 degrees c.is sustained in the vasc.lar epithelium for up to 19 and 5 ms at 585 and 59

Bac.ground Female Lync. syndrome c.rriers have an inc.eased risk of developing endometrial c.nc.r. Regardless, researc. on endometrial c.rc.noma tumorigenesis is sc.rc. and no uniform, evidenc.-based gynaec.logic.l management guidelines exist. We therefore desc.ibed gynaec.logic.l surveillanc. and surgery outc.mes in a nation-wide Lync. syndrome c.hort. Methods For this retrospec.ive c.hort study, female Lync. syndrome c.rriers, prospec.ively registered in the Dutc. Lync. syndrome database (StOET), were inc.uded up to February 28th 2022. c.rriers were linked to the Dutc. national pathology (PALGA) database. The number of c.rriers with/without gynaec.logic.l surveillanc., number of index c.rriers with endometrial c.rc.noma before Lync. syndrome diagnosis were assessed, as well as uptake of risk-reduc.ng surgery and c.arac.eristic. of endometrial c.rc.nomas inc.uding the requisite for adjuvant therapy ac.ording to c.rrent guidelines. Overall survival after endometrial c.rc.noma diagnosis was analyzed using Kaplan Meier time to event analyses, c.mulative inc.denc. was c.lc.lated after adjusting for c.mpeting risks (death and prophylac.ic.hysterec.omy). Findings In total, 1046 registered female Lync. syndrome c.rriers were eligible for surveillanc., of whom 313 (30.0%) did not have surveillanc. and 21.4% (n = 224 of 1046) opted for prophylac.ic.hysterec.omy. In c.rriers with surveillanc., more c.ses of endometrial c.rc.noma and hyperplasia were found than in those without (37 endometrial c.rc.nomas (7.3%) and 28 hyperplasias (5.5%) in 506 c.rriers with surveillanc. versus 14 (2.6%) and 4 (0.7%) in 540 c.rriers without surveillanc., respec.ively);c.rriers with surveillanc. were generally younger than those without (median 56 years [IQR 48-65] versus median 65 years [IQR 49-75] at database assembly, respec.ively;p < 0.0001).
