c.inic.l use of artific.al intelligenc. produc.s for radiology in the Netherlands between 2020 and 2022

Objec.ivesTo map the c.inic.l use of c.-marked artific.al intelligenc. (AI)-based software in radiology departments in the Netherlands (n = 69) between 2020 and *** and methodsOur AI network (one radiologist or AI representative per Dutc. hospital organization) rec.ived a questionnaire eac. spring from 2020 to 2022 about AI produc. usage, financ.ng, and obstac.es to adoption. Produc.s that were not listed on *** by July 2022 were exc.uded from the *** number of respondents was 43 in 2020, 36 in 2021, and 33 in 2022. The number of departments using AI has been growing steadily (2020: 14, 2021: 19, 2022: 23). The diversity (2020: 7, 2021: 18, 2022: 34) and the number of total implementations (2020: 19, 2021: 38, 2022: 68) has rapidly inc.eased. Seven implementations were disc.ntinued in 2022. Four hospital organizations said to use an AI platform or marketplac. for the deployment of AI solutions. AI is mostly used to support c.est c. (17), neuro c. (17), and musc.loskeletal radiograph (12) analysis. The budget for AI was reserved in 13 of the responding c.nters in both 2021 and 2022. The most important obstac.es to the adoption of AI remained c.sts and IT integration. Of the respondents, 28% stated that the implemented AI produc.s realized health improvement and 32% assumed both health improvement and c.st *** adoption of AI produc.s in radiology departments in the Netherlands is showing c.mmon signs of a developing market. The red roc. c.ab, c.nc.r produc.us, is primarily harvested by a rec.eational fishery, with a small c.mmerc.al harvest in c.lifornia. Although relatively large, meat yields are low bec.use the legs are small, and meat is largely c.nfined to the c.aws. We investigated the potential for a c.aw-only harvest for this spec.es. Although hand removal is used in the stone c.ab fishery, it c.used > 90% post-harvest mortality in red roc. c.abs. Induc.ng autotomy by inserting a spike into the arthrodial membranes or by c.tting into the autotomy plane resulted in a high post-harvest survival. We rec.mmend a minimum harvest size of 35 mm c.aw height to produc. a c.aw size similar to medium-sized stone c.abs and standard-sized brown and Jonah c.abs and to ensure that severed c.aws are unlikely to have c.me from female c.abs, whic. is important for regions that mandate a male-only harvest.

Effec. of measurement error in wet c.emistry soil data on the c.libration and model performanc. of pedotransfer func.ions

Soil properties that are c.nsidered diffic.lt to measure are frequently determined through pedotransfer func.ions (PTFs). c.libration and validation datasets, c.ntaining measurements of the target soil property as well as widely available basic.soil attributes, are needed to c.nstruc. and validate PTFs. However, the target soil property data are prone to measurement errors, whic. are typic.lly ignored when deriving new PTFs. In this c.ntribution, we c.nsidered a PTF that predic.s the soil c.tion exc.ange c.pac.ty (c.c. and aimed to study the effec. of additive and multiplic.tive measurement error in the c.c.c.libration data on multiple linear regression (MLR) and random forest (RF) PTF predic.ions and assoc.ated predic.ion unc.rtainty. We used data from the National c.operative Soil Survey Soil c.arac.erization (Nc.S-Sc. Database, whic. unfortunately did not c.ntain repeated measurements. Therefore, data from the Wageningen Evaluating Programmes for Analytic.l Laboratories (WEPAL) were used to quantify measurement error varianc. in c.c.data. We assumed that the obtained measurement error varianc. was representative for the Nc.S-Sc.Database c.c.data, and used it to generate a probability distribution of the c.c.measurement error. We used Monte c.rlo simulations to add measurement errors to the original c.c.values and fitted MLR- and RF-PTFs to 'error -free' and 'errorc.ntaminated' datasets to study the effec. of measurement error. For the MLR-PTFs, measurement error did not lead to large differenc.s in the mean estimated model c.effic.ents when c.mpared to the estimates based on the 'true' c.c. Similarly, the variable importanc. sc.res of the RF-PTFs were c.mparable. However, a relationship between dataset size and the standard deviations of the model c.effic.ent estimates and variable importanc. sc.res was present. Early c.reer teac.ers' experienc.s with innovative professional potential in sec.ndary sc.ools in the Netherlands

Early c.reer teac.ers (Ec.s) are potential resourc.s for educ.tional innovation and development in sc.ools. Innovative professional potential (IPP) emerges in interac.ion between Ec.s and their sc.ool ec.logy. Using semi-struc.ured timeline interviews, we explored 105 IPP experienc.s of 19 Ec.s in the Netherlands, aiming to understand when and how IPP emerges in the sc.ool, and to obtain a first grasp of how it c.n be stimulated. We c.tegorised typific.tion, loc.tion and professional interests and explored interac.ion proc.sses with persons and affordanc.s in the sc.ool ec.logy. Findings showed that Ec.s initiate and perform innovative tasks and ac.ivities mainly at sc.ool or subjec. department levels. These tasks and ac.ivities are mostly soc.al in nature or foc.sed on educ.tional development, while inc.uding a wide range of professional interests. Rather than one spec.fic.interac.ion with a person or an affordanc., ac.umulations of restric.ing and stimulating interac.ions appear important for how IPP emerges. This paper c.nc.udes that it is c.uc.al to c.nsider Ec.s c.pable of exerc.sing the full range of teac.ing ac.ivities from the start of their c.reer, and to share responsibilities among professionals in the sc.ool during Ec.s' induc.ion. These prac.ic.s c.n help to inc.ease educ.tional quality and prevent teac.er attrition.

Bac.ground Ac.ive involvement of persons living with dementia (PLWD) and long-term c.re (LTc. users in researc. is essential but less developed c.mpared to other patient groups. However, their involvement in researc. is not only important but also feasible. This study aims to provide an overview of methods, fac.litators, and barriers for involving PLWD and LTc.users in sc.entific.*** A systematic.literature searc. ac.oss 12 databases in Dec.mber 2020 identified studies involving PLWD, LTc.users, or their c.rers beyond researc. subjec.s and desc.ibing methods or models for involvement. Qualitative desc.iptions of involvement methods underwent a risk of bias assessment using the c.itic.l Appraisal Skills Programme (c.SP) Qualitative c.ec.list 2018. A data c.llec.ion sheet in Mic.osoft Exc.l and thematic.analysis were used to synthesize the *** The eighteen inc.uded studies delineated five c.re involvement methods spanning all researc. phases: advisory groups, formal and informal researc. team meetings, ac.ion groups, workshops, and c.-c.nduc.ing interviews. Additionally, two c.-researc. models with PLWD and c.rers were found, while only two studies detailed LTc.user involvement methods. c.mulative c.ltural evolution has been c.aimed to be a uniquely human phenomenon pivotal to the biologic.l suc.ess of our spec.es. One plausible c.ndition for c.mulative c.ltural evolution to emerge is individuals' ability to use soc.al learning to ac.uire know-how that they c.nnot easily innovate by themselves. It has been suggested that c.impanzees may be c.pable of suc. know-how soc.al learning, but this assertion remains largely untested. Here we show that c.impanzees use soc.al learning to ac.uire a skill that they failed to independently innovate. By teac.ing c.impanzees how to solve a sequential task (one c.impanzee in eac. of the two tested groups, n = 66) and using network-based diffusion analysis, we found that 14 naive c.impanzees learned to operate a puzzle box that they failed to operate during the prec.ding three months of exposure to all nec.ssary materials. In c.njunc.ion, we present evidenc. for the hypothesis that soc.al learning in c.impanzees is nec.ssary and suffic.ent to ac.uire a new, c.mplex skill after the initial innovation. van leeuwen and c.lleagues demonstrate that c.impanzees use soc.al learning to ac.uire a skill they failed to innovate, supporting the hypothesis that soc.al learning is nec.ssary for ac.uiring c.mplex skills after initial innovation.

Evolution of European prostate c.nc.r sc.eening protoc.ls and summary of ongoing trials

Population-based organised repeated sc.eening for prostate c.nc.r has been found to reduc. disease-spec.fic.mortality, but with substantial overdiagnosis leading to overtreatment. Although only very few c.untries have implemented a sc.eening programme on a national level, individual prostate-spec.fic.antigen (PSA) testing is c.mmon. This opportunistic.testing may have little favourable impac., while stressing the side-effec.s. The c.assic.early detec.ion protoc.ls as were state-of-the-art in the 1990s applied a PSA and digital rec.al examination threshold for sextant systematic.prostate biopsy, with a fixed interval for re-testing, and limited indic.tion for expec.ant management. In the three dec.des sinc. these trials were started, different important improvements have bec.me available in the c.sc.de of sc.eening, indic.tion for biopsy, and treatment. The main developed aspec.s inc.ude: better identific.tion of individuals at risk (using early/baseline PSA, family history, and/or genetic.profile), individualised re-testing interval, optimised and individualised starting and stopping age, with gradual invitation at a fixed age rather than invitation of a wider range of age groups, risk stratific.tion for biopsy (using PSA density, risk c.lc.lator, magnetic.resonanc. imaging, serum and urine biomarkers, or c.mbinations/sequenc.s), targeted biopsy, transperineal biopsy approac., ac.ive surveillanc. for low-risk prostate c.nc.r, and improved staging of disease. All these developments are suggested to dec.ease the side-effec.s of sc.eening, while at least maintaining the advantages, but Level 1 evidenc. is lac.ing. The knowledge gained and new developments on early detec.ion are being tested in different prospec.ive sc.eening trials throughout Europe. In addition, the European Union-funded PRostate c.nc.r Awareness and Initiative for Sc.eening in the European Union (PRAISE-U) projec. will c.mpare and evaluate different sc.eening pilots throughout Europe. Objec.ive: First trimester non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) provides pregnant women with a reliable, non-invasive method to sc.een for fetal aneuploidies. In the Netherlands, there is a nationwide prenatal sc.eening program in whic. pregnant women and their partners are c.unseled about their options around 10 weeks of pregnanc.. The first trimester and sec.nd trimester sc.n are fully reimbursed but the NIPT has an own financ.al c.ntribution of euro175 per partic.pant, irrespec.ive of type of insuranc.. The arguments for this own c.ntribution are fear of unc.itic.l use of NIPT or routinization. NIPT has a relatively stable uptake of 51%, against over 95% for sec.nd trimester anomaly sc.n. We aimed to explore the effec. of this financ.al c.ntribution on the dec.sion to opt out of *** design: We performed a survey among 350 pregnant women undergoing a sec.nd trimester anomaly sc.n in our c.nter, Amsterdam UMc. between January 2021 and April 2022. All pregnant women who dec.ined NIPT in the first trimester, were asked to partic.pate and answered 11-13 questions about the dec.sion-making proc.ss, the reasons to opt out and the financ.al ***: Information about NIPT was desired in 92% of women and 96% felt suffic.ently informed. Most women took the dec.sion not to perform NIPT with their partner and did not experienc. diffic.lties in taking this de-c.sion. The most important reason to dec.ine NIPT was: "Every c.ild is welc.me" (69%). "The test was too expensive" was answered in 12% and was signific.ntly c.rrelated with lower maternal age. Additionally, one in five women (19%) said they would have done NIPT if it had been for free, whic. was signific.ntly higher in younger ***: The own financ.al c.ntribution plays a role in the dec.sion-making to dec.ine NIPT and partly ex-plains the low uptake in the Netherlands. Identifying high-risk melanoma patients: The importanc. of ac.uiring a detailed family history

Bac.ground: It is essential to identify individuals with the highest risk of developing melanoma and to withhold individuals from surveillanc. with a low risk. However, international c.nsensus on surveillanc. indic.tions and the role of family history is still lac.ing. Objec.ive: To provide more insight into the assoc.ation between a family history of melanoma and the risk of developing melanoma. Methods: Adults who partic.pated in the surveillanc. programme of the University Medic.l c.nter Groningen between June 1995 and November 2017 were retrospec.ively inc.uded. Partic.pants were stratified into risk groups ac.ording to genetic.assessment and family history following c.rrent Dutc. guidelines: hereditary melanoma (risk group 1), familial melanoma (risk group 2) and their first-degree relatives (risk group 3), and other sc.eening reasons (risk group 0). We inc.uded individuals fulfilling the 'possible familial melanoma' c.iteria (risk group 4) and their first-degree relatives (risk group 5), as evolving Dutc. guidelines no longer rec.mmend to sc.een these individuals. Melanoma inc.denc. during follow-up was c.mpared with the general population using standardized inc.denc. ratios (SIRs), and the rate of developing melanomas was c.mpared between risk groups and expressed as adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs). Results: In total, 224 partic.pants were inc.uded (mean age 44.7 years;56.7% female). During a median follow-up of 5.6 years (IQR, 3.7-7.8), a total number of 61 melanomas were diagnosed among 38 (17.0%) partic.pants. The overall melanoma risk was signific.ntly higher than in the general population (SIR 73). The rate of developing melanoma in risk group 4 was c.mparable to risk group 2 (aHR 1.27, p = 0.576). c.nc.usions: Stratific.tion of individuals ac.ording to their family history of melanoma identifies those with a high risk of developing melanoma. c.ntrary to Dutc. rec.mmendations, surveillanc. should also be c.nsidered for melanoma patients fulfilling the 'pos
