Efficient removal and recovery of phosphorus from industrial wastewater in the form of vivianite

With the shortage of phosphorus resources, the concept of phosphorus recovery from wastewater is generally proposed. Recently, phosphorus recovery from wastewater in the form of vivianite has been widely reported, which could be used as a slow-release fertilizer as well as the production of lithium iron phosphate for Li-ion batteries. In this study, chemical precipitation thermodynamic modeling was applied to evaluate the effect of solution factors on vivianite crystallization with actual phosphorus containing industrial wastewater. The modeling results showed that the solution pH influences the concentration of diverse ions, and the initial Fe2+ concentration affects the formation area of vivianite. The saturation index (SI) of vivianite increased with the initial Fe2+ concentration and Fe:P molar ratio. pH 7.0, initial Fe2+ concentration 500 mg/L and Fe:P molar ratio 1.50 were the optimal conditions for phosphorus recovery. Mineral Liberation Analyzer (MLA) accurately determined the purity of vivianite was 24.13%, indicating the feasibility of recovering vivianite from industrial wastewater. In addition, the cost analysis showed that the cost of recovering phosphorus by the vivianite process was 0.925 USD/kg P, which can produce high-value vivianite products and realize "turn waste into treasure".

High-quality annotated data plays an important role in data-driven or machine-learning-based medical studies. Large amounts of valuable data existed in free text records such as Electronic Health Records. Manual annotation is paramount for intelligent algorithm applications where plentiful structured data could be extracted. With the exponential growth of medical data, large-scale collaborative annotation is required where different annotation tools should be used. We investigated the existing annotation platform and discovered partial common problems that need to be solved, e.g., lack of integrated annotation workflow, absence of reasonable review and review-assisting process, frequent lexicon upload failure, prolonged auto annotation, unified export standards, etc. In response to the above requirements, we developed Comma, a collaborative medical annotation platform that allows English and Chinese annotation. Comma supports functions involving multiple ways with high success rates to upload documents, self-defined structured entity types, customized auto annotation, annotators capability assessment, various collaborative modes, statistics display, self-determined exportation, etc. It could provide a user-friendly interface, diverse functionalities, and fluent interactions for people demanding annotations. In pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), stromal cells and matrix proteins form a dense physical barrier that, while preventing the outward spread of tumor cells, also limits the penetration of drugs and CD8+ T cells inward. Additionally, the overactivated TGF-beta/SMAD signaling pathway further promotes matrix proliferation and immune suppression. Therefore, crossing the stromal barrier while preserving the integrity of the stroma, releasing drugs intratumorally, remodeling the stroma, and activating the immune system is a promising drug delivery strategy. In this work, a type of enamine N-oxides modified nanoparticle was prepared, with stearic acid-modified gemcitabine prodrug (GemC18) and pSMAD2/3 inhibitor galunisertib encapsulated. The peripheral enamine N-oxides can trigger transcytosis and then respond to hypoxia and acidic microenvironments, turning the surface charge of the nanoparticles to a positive charge and enhancing penetration. The released galunisertib inhibits the TGF-beta/SMAD signaling pathway, reshapes the matrix, activates antitumor immunity, and combines with gemcitabine (Gem) to kill tumor cells.

Development of fresh solid phase extractant is critical for selective separation and purification of special proteins. Herein, we demonstrated a recombinant Staphylococcal Protein G (rSPG) with a His-tag modified the novel single-metal organic framework (rSPG@Ni-MOF-74). The proposed solid-phase extraction material possessed a uniform spindle-shaped structure, large surface area (709.60 m2 g-1) and pore volume (0.08 m3 g- 1), high metal content (22.57 wt%), which facilitated the interaction between host and guest. As results, the composite displayed outstanding selective recognition and adsorption of IgG, due to synergistic effect of the binding ability of rSPG with the Fc region of IgG, maintained through hydrogen bonding and electrostatic attraction, as well as hydrophobic interaction. The adsorption performance and mechanism of rSPG@Ni-MOF-74 have been fully investigated. Additionally, the rSPG@Ni-MOF-74 composite could effectively separate IgG from serum obtained from healthy humans, with the purity of the separated IgG verified through SDS-PAGE analysis. Furthermore, LCMS/MS analysis identified a high content of IgG (55.3 %) in the eluate from rSPG@Ni-MOF-74, suggesting the great potential of rSPG@Ni-MOF-74 in IgG separation and enrichment from complex matrix.

A molecularly imprinted electrochemiluminescence sensor based on ZnO@CdTe for the detection of mevastatin

In this paper, CdTe quantum dots with near-infrared fluorescence (NIR) and hexagonal prism-shaped ZnO were synthesized, and the composites were characterized for their performance. A sensitive molecularly imprinted electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor for the determination of mevastatin was constructed based on ZnO@CdTe and molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). The highest ECL intensity of the system was obtained by ZnO@CdTe as the main luminophores reacted with the co-reactant K2S2O8. The ECL response generated by the reaction of ZnO@CdTe and K2S2O8 was used as the basic signal detection platform. The MIP was prepared by the electropolymerization process on the above platform, which laid the foundation for forming the mevastatin cavities with specific recognition sites. In addition, the response mechanism was investigated, and the determination conditions were optimized. The ECL intensity change values (Delta I) of the sensor showed a good linear relationship with the logarithm of mevastatin concentration in the range of 2.0 x 10-11 to 2.0 x 10-6 mol L-1, and the limit of detection was 6.7 x 10-12 mol L-1 (S/N = 3). This method obtained satisfactory results in the detection of mevastatin in tablets.

Research and development of the high precision low field dipole magnet for CEPC Booster

In the Conceptual Design Report (CDR) stage of the Circular Electron and Positron Collider (CEPC), the injection energy of the Booster is 10 GeV and minimal working field of the dipole magnets is only 29 G, the magnets with iron cores could not meet the requirement of the field precision due to the remnant field. In the CEPC Technical Design Report (TDR) stage, the injection energy of the Booster is increased to 30 GeV and the minimal working field of the dipole magnets is raised to 95 G so that the influence of the remnant field becomes relatively small, the iron core dipole magnets can be used for the Booster. In this paper, the technical design of the CEPC Booster dipole magnets is described, the development and test of a full scale prototype pure dipole magnet are presented.

Numerical study of the axial compression strength for nano-reinforced filament-wound riser considering curing residual stress

The present study is dedicated to the numerical analysis of progressive failure damage in multiangle nanoreinforced filament wound risers, with due consideration for process-induced residual stresses. Utilizing a multi-model coupling strategy, we introduce an integrated methodology predicated upon the time-varying material characteristics at a macroscopic scale. Initially, the process-induced residual stresses are anticipated via a sequential coupled numerical simulation methodology based on the time-varying attributes of the material. Subsequently, the curing residual stresses serve as the initial stress for the composite wound riser to prognosticate its axial compressive strength, grounded in the progressive damage model. Finally, the multiparametric effects on the strength properties of the composite risers are further investigated to reveal the intrinsic mechanism. The numerical findings evince that curing-induced residual stress retards both fiber and matrix failure while augmenting the axial compressive strength of the composite riser. Furthermore, the escalation in nanoparticle content diminishes the process-induced residual stresses. Additionally, the incorporation of 5 % nanoparticles yields an enhancement in the strength of the composite risers by approximately 16.26 % relative to those devoid of nanoparticles.

In multimodal sentiment analysis, heterogeneity between modalities makes inconsistent modal distributions a challenge. Especially in the case of incomplete features of certain modalities, the differences between modalities may interfere with the accurate prediction of sentiment categories. To address this problem, this paper proposes a missing modal reconstruction network (SSF-MMRN) for multimodal sentiment analysis based on sharing specific features. Firstly, a CMD distance-constrained training strategy is used to learn inter-modal consistency features. Second, based on the consistency features, a reconstruction module is proposed to generate missing modal features, check the semantic consistency of the recovered modalities with the original available modalities, and introduce inconsistencies into multiple models for better decision-making once they exist. Extensive experiments on the IEMOCAP benchmark dataset show that our proposed model effectively mitigates the modality gap during missing modality prediction and significantly improves the emotion recognition performance.

This paper presents the work of ImageSem group in the ImageCLEFmed Caption 2021 task. In the concept detection subtask, we employed the transfer learning-based multi-label classification model as our baseline. We also trained multiple fine-grained MLC models based on manually annotated semantic categories, such as Imaging Type, Anatomic Structure, and Findings, which may reveal clinical insights of radiology images. We submitted 9 runs to the concept detection subtask, and achieved the F1 Score of 0.419, which ranked 3rd in the leader board. In the caption prediction subtask, our first method simply combines detected concepts according to the sentence patterns. The second method used a dual path CNN model for matching images and captions. We submitted 4 runs to the caption prediction subtask, and achieved the BLEU score of 0.257, which ranked 6th among the participating teams. © 2021 Copyright for this paper by its authors. DNA methylation plays vital roles in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. There are three forms of DNA methylation in prokaryotes: N-6-methyladenine (6mA), N-4-methylcytosine (4mC), and 5-methylcytosine (5mC). Although many sequencing methods have been developed to sequence specific types of methylation, few technologies can be used for efficiently mapping multiple types of methylation. Here, we present NT-seq for mapping all three types of methylation simultaneously. NT-seq reliably detects all known methylation motifs in two bacterial genomes and can be used for identifying de novo methylation motifs. NT-seq provides a simple and efficient solution for detecting multiple types of DNA methylation.
