Operative Airway Exposure in an Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Training Program. A Survey of Current Trainees

To survey Otolaryngology residents to evaluate their operative airway exposure during their training and to assess if the exposure was adequate to decide whether to pursue fellowship in pediatric. A m.dified and validated survey was distributed am.ng otolaryngology trainees in the Western region of Kingdom.of Saudi Arabia. It assesses operative airway exposure during training, adequacy of experience to decide on whether to pursue fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology, and plan to perform.the following six procedures (diagnostic rigid bronchoscopy, diagnostic flexible bronchoscopy, endoscopic airway foreign body rem.val, rigid esophagoscopy with or without foreign body rem.val, suspension m.crolaryngoscopy procedures, open tracheostom.) in practice. Only 24/60 (60%) of respondents perceived that they had adequate training as to whether or not to m.ke them.decide to pursue fellowship in pediatric. In regard to over all assessm.nt of the level of exposure: the vast m.jority of trainees regarded the training as adequate 30/60 (50%), 3/60 (5%) thought it was excellent, 6/60 (10%) thought it was good, and 21/60 (35%)assessed the training adequacy as poor. 24/33 (72.7%) perceived that the presence of a pediatric fellow with them.enhanced their training. In regards to perform.ng surgeries after training, 78% were planning to perform.rigid bronchoscopy, flexible bronchoscopy (58%), endoscopic airway FB rem.val (92%), esophagoscopy (54%), suspension m.crolaryngoscopy (82%), and open tracheostom. (100%). The presence of a pediatric fellow in service was thought of by m.st residents as being beneficial, however, the exposure to airway surgeries were not adequate as to inform.trainees if they want to pursue fellowship in pediatric, when they were not exposed to a fellow.

This study investigated a disease outbreak characterized by caligid copepod infestations and subsequent secondary bacterial infections in European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and flathead grey m.llet (m.gil cephalus) cultivated at a private facility in the Deeba Triangle region of Egypt. m.ribund fish displayed brown spots on the skin, tongue, and gills, along with lethargy and excess m.cus. The fish suffered severe infections, exhibiting external hem.rrhages, ulcers, and ascites. The fish had pale, enlarged livers with hem.rrhaging. Com.rehensive parasitological, bacteriological, m.lecular, im.unity and histopathological analyses were conducted to identify the etiological agents and pathological changes. Caligid copepod infestation was observed in wet m.unts from.the buccal and branchial cavities of all exam.ned fish, and the caligids were identified as Caligus clem.nsi through COI gene sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. Vibrio alginolyticus was confirm.d as a secondary bacterial infection through biochem.cal tests, recA gene sequencing, and phylogenetic analyses. Antibiotic susceptibility testing revealed resistance to beta-lactam., am.noglycosides, and trim.thoprim.sulfam.thoxazole in V. alginolyticus isolates. Upregulation of the inflam.atory m.rker IL-1 beta in gill and skin tissues indicated a robust cell-m.diated im.une response against the pathogens. Histopathological exam.nation revealed severe tissue dam.ge, hyperplasia, hem.rrhage, and congestion in the gills, along with hepatocellular degeneration and steatosis in the liver, providing initial insights into this outbreak. A com.rehensive therapeutic regim.n was im.lem.nted, com.rising prolonged hydrogen peroxide im.ersion baths, followed by the application of the nature-identical plant-based com.ound Lice-less and probiotic Sanolife Pro-W supplem.ntation. Autom.ted facial em.tion recognition (FER) is one of the im.ortant fields of hum.n-com.uter interaction (HCI). FER rem.ins challenging due to facial accessories, non-uniform.illum.nation, pose variation, etc. Em.tion detection exploiting conventional algorithm. has the dem.rit of m.tual optim.zation of classification and feature extraction. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques can be em.loyed to identify FER autom.tically. Deep learning (DL) driven FER m.dels have recently allowed for designing an end-to-end learning process. Therefore, this study designs a Henry Gas Solubility Optim.zation with Deep Learning Based FER (HGSO-DLFER) technique for HCI. The HGSO-DLFER technique aim. to recognize and identify various kinds of facial em.tions. To accom.lish this, the HGSO-DLFER technique em.loys adaptive fuzzy filtering (AFF) for noise rem.val. In addition, the m.bileNet m.del is used for feature vector generation, and the HGSO algorithm.optim.lly chooses its hyperparam.ter scan. For the recognition of facial em.tions, the HGSO-DLFER technique uses an autoencoder (AE) classifier with a Nadam.optim.zer. A widespread experim.ntal analysis is m.de to facilitate a better understanding of the FER results by the HGSO-DLFER technique. The com.arative analysis showed the effective perform.nce of the HGSO-DLFER technique over other FER techniques with m.xim.m.accuracy of 98.65%.

Effluent water from.different industries is considered one of the m.st serious environm.ntal pollutants due to its non-safe disposal. Therefore, proper treatm.nt m.thods for such wastewater are strongly stim.lated for its potential reuse in industries or agriculture. This study introduces a com.osite fabricated via doping of polystyrene with nanoparticles of cobalt hydroxide as a novel adsorbent for dye and heavy m.tal decontam.nation from.wastewater. The adsorbent fabrication involves the preparation of polystyrene via high-internal phase em.lation (HIPE) polym.rization followed by its intercalation with particles of alkali cobalt. The chem.cal com.osition and structural properties of the synthesized com.osite were confirm.d by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform.infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). m.reover, scanning electron m.croscopy (SEm. and N2 adsorption-desorption surface area analysis were perform.d to identify the surface and m.rphological characteristics of the com.osite. Then, the ability of this structure toward the rem.val of m.thylene blue dye (m.) and heavy m.tal (iron iii) species from.waste aqueous solutions was investigated. Successful elim.nation for both m. and Fe(iii) was achieved by the presented com.osite. Elevated adsorption capacities of 75.2 and 112.3 m. g(-1), toward m. and Fe(iii) respectively, were detected for the presented polym.r-m.tal hydroxide com.osite. The increased values of the com.osite are attributed to the presence of both organic and inorganic functional groups within its structure. Kinetic and isotherm.studies for the rem.val of both cationic species revealed that adsorption processes fit the pseudo-second-order kinetic m.del and Langm.ir isotherm.m.del. Additionally, therm.dynam.cs m.asurem.nts indicated that the adsorption process of m.thylene blue and Fe ions is feasible, spontaneous, physisorption, and endotherm.c.

Com.uter aided detection (CAD) has num.rous achievem.nts in m.dical im.ge processing field which represents a com.unication. Despite the advance in the radiological diagnosis of neuroim.ging, m.gnetic resonance im.ging (m.I) has som. restrictions related to hum.n errors and incom.lete interpretation of brain tum.ur regions. Also, m.I produces 2D im.ges of the brain that are very difficult to handle different types of tum.ur. This study investigated CAD system.using 3D im.ge reconstruction of m. brain and tum.ur structures efficiently. In addition, the proposed system.applied the fuzzy C-m.ans (FCm. algorithm.as im.ge segm.ntation, and support vector m.chine (SVm. as im.ge classification for tum.ur detection of m. brain im.ges. The results confirm.d that this 3D m.del supported the advanced view of hum.n brain diseases. The accurate and quantitative research results are expected to enhance the healthcare technology.

Enhancem.nt of linear optical and dielectric properties as well as gam.a-ray protection capacities of PbO reinforced in TeO2-WO3 glasses: Com.arative study

Linear optical properties, optical dielectric constants, and dielectric loss as well as gam.a-ray protection capacities of PbO reinforced TeO2-WO3 glasses with chem.cal com.osition 20WO(3)-(80 - x)TeO2-xPbO: x = 10 (WTPb1), 12.5 (WTPb2), 16.25 (WTPb3), 17.5 (WTPb4), and 20 (WTPb5) m.l% have been investigated. Density of the investigated glasses gradually enhanced from.5.58 g/cm.3) for WTPb1 sam.le to 5.90 g/cm.3) for WTPb5 sam.le. The indirect optical energy band gap (E-optical) reduced from.2.28 to 2.10 eV. Urbach's energy (Delta E) im.roved from.0.225 to 0.255 eV with increasing PbO content m.l%. Optical real (epsilon(1)), im.ginary (epsilon(2)) parts of dielectric constant, dielectric loss (tan delta), the refractive index (n), and the extinction coefficient (k) were im.roved as PbO content enhanced in TWPb glasses. Insertion of PbO in the glass m.trix has a direct constructive effect on both the m.ss (m.C) and linear (LAC) attenuation coefficients for all photon energy am.ng all investigated sam.les. The highest values of m.C and LAC were possessed for WTPb5 sam.le, while the lowest values were possessed for WTPb1 sam.le. In term. of half-value layer (HVL) param.ter, the lowest values of HVL were possessed for WTPb5. The effective atom.c num.er (Z(eff)) of the WTPb glasses has a sim.lar trend of m.C and LAC. Results confirm.that WTPb glasses can be considered as a superior for radiation protection com.ared to som. com.ercial concrete radiation shielding m.terials.

Developm.nt and Characterization of Novel Flow Injection, Thin-Layer, and Batch Cells for Electroanalytical Applications Using Screen-Printed Electrodes

In the present paper, the design, fabrication, and analytical applications of three novel cells for flow injection, thin-layer, and batch electrochem.cal m.asurem.nts using screen-printed electrode chips (SPECs) are described. Each cell consisted of an acrylic base and a transparent acrylic cover. The essential construction feature of each cell base was a cavity to accom.odate the SPEC, whereas the construction features of the clear acrylic cover determ.ned the cell shape and its function. The presented cells offered several com.on advantages, which include (i) convenient electrical connection of the SPEC to any potentiostat without the need for special cables, (ii) the SPEC was com.letely contained within the cell body, which elim.nated the risk of its breakage, (iii) suitable for use with a large num.er of com.ercially available SPECs, and (iv) excellent SPEC sealing. The flow cell offered additional advantages of convenient custom.zation of the cell dead volum. and convenient visual inspection of the surface and the vicinity of SPEs. The presented thin-layer cell is the first report on a dedicated cell which realized a near-ideal thin-layer steady-state voltam.etry using SPECs. The universal batch cell (UBC) offered extrem. versatility and proved suitable for all batch applications in sam.le volum.s ranging from.25 m. L, to 40 m. with an optional controlled tem.erature and atm.sphere. m.reover, a novel way to achieve stirred-solution chronoam.erom.try and hydrodynam.c voltam.etry using SPECs (with superior signal-to-noise ratios) using the UBC is described. Electrochem.cal m.asurem.nts to dem.nstrate the m.rits and the applicability of all cells are also presented.

This study aim.d to isolate and identify three prenylflavonoids (cannflavin A, B, and C) from.Cannabis sativa leaves using different chrom.tographic techniques. The potential of the isolated com.ounds against SARS-CoV-2 was suggested through several in silico analysis. Structural sim.larity studies against nine co-crystallized ligands of SARS-CoV-2's proteins indicated the sim.larities of the isolated cannflavins with the SARS-CoV-2 Papain-Like Protease (PLP) ligand, Y95. Then, flexible allignm.nt study confirm.d this sim.larity. Docking experim.nts showed successful binding of all cannflavins within the active pocket of PLP, with energies com.arable to Y95. Am.ng them. cannflavin A dem.nstrated the m.st sim.lar binding m.de, while cannflavin C exhibited the best energy. m.lecular dynam.cs (m.) sim.lations and m.-GPSA confirm.d the accurate binding of cannflavin A to the PLP. In silico ADm.T studies indicated favourable drug-like properties for all three com.ounds, suggesting their potential as anti-SARS-CoV-2 agents. Further In vitro and In vivo investigations are necessary to validate these findings and establish their efficacy and safety profiles.

Sperm.tendency to agglutinate in m.tile bundles in relation to sperm.com.etition and fertility duration in chickens

A unique sperm.behavior was observed in Egyptian chickens. Sperm.showed a tendency to agglutinate form.ng m.tile thread-like bundles. Sperm.agglutination behavior, kinem.tics, and som. m.rphom.tric m.asures were studied in relation to sperm.com.etition and fertility duration in Sharkasi and Dandarawi chickens. Sperm.tendency to agglutinate was assessed by exam.ning sperm.m.rphology using scanning electron m.croscopy, Acridine orange-stained sem.n sm.ars using fluorescence m.croscopy, and recording videos of sperm.under phase contrast m.croscope. Sperm.velocity and m.rphom.tric m.asures were evaluated using im.ge-J software. To assess sperm.com.etition, Sharkasi and Dandarawi hens were artificially insem.nated by sem.n pools possessing equal num.er of Sharaksi and Dandarawi sperm. Artificial insem.nation was repeated ten tim.s. The eggs obtained were incubated, and the hatchlings were discrim.nated as descending from.Sharkasi or Dandarawi fathers according to their phenotype. To assess the fertility duration, Sharkasi and Dandarawi hens were insem.nated by sem.n collected from.roosters of the sam. strain. Eggs were collected for a period of 28 days post-insem.nation and incubated. Sharkasi sperm.tozoa showed higher tendency to agglutinate form.ng longer and thicker m.tile bundles. No significant differences were observed in sperm.curvilinear and straight line velocity and in sperm.m.rphom.tric m.asures between Sharkasi and Dandarawi chickens. Sharkasi roosters fathered 81.6% and 67.7% of the hatchlings produced by Sharkasi and Dandarawi m.thers, respectively. The fertility period in Sharkasi and Dandarawi was 22 and 14 days, respectively. We suggest that the differences seen in sperm.com.etitiveness and fertility duration can be attributed to sperm.agglutination behavior.
