Risk prevention of different forms of gestational diabetes mellitus based on energy metabolism prior to diagnosis

BACKGROUND: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a metabolic disease that seriously endangers the health of mothers and children. It is important to monitor GDM in real-time before diagnosis and to prevent it effectively. OBJECTIVE: GDM was divided into the second trimester diagnosed diabetes mellitus (GDM_24) and the third trimester diagnosed diabetes mellitus (GDM_30). The risk prediction of two types of GDM was performed in normal pregnant women at 11-13 and 16-19 weeks of pregnancy, respectively. METHODS: By stages, the K-W test was used to analyze the differences between basic information and energy metabolism factors, and multiple logistic regression was used to analyze the risk of energy metabolism factors and to correct the confounders with significant differences. RESULTS: For the GDM_24 group, each additional unit of oxygen consumption (VO2), carbon dioxide production, and resting energy expenditure (REE) increased the risk by 2.4%, 3.5%, 0.4%, and 2.1%, 2.6%, and 0.3%, respectively, at 11-13 and 16-19 weeks of pregnancy. For the GDM_30 group, each additional unit of VO2 and REE was associated with an increased risk of 2.3% and 0.3%, respectively, at 16-19 weeks of pregnancy. CONCLUSION: The risk of GDM_30 only appeared in pregnant women during 16-19 weeks of pregnancy, which may indicate that GDM_24 and GDM_30 have different pathogenesis.

Effect of High-Temperature Annealing on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Extremely Deformed Fe35Ni35Cr20Mn10 High-Entropy Alloy Wire

Fe35Ni35Cr20Mn10 high-entropy alloy wire with a diameter of 0.45 mm, prepared by continuous cold-drawing from a rod with a diameter of 6.34 mm, was subjected to high-temperature annealing at 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1000 degrees C for 1 h. The microstructure and mechanical properties in different states were investigated by microscopy observations and tensile testing. The wire in the as-drawn state exhibited the highest strength but the lowest elongation because of its fine multilayer structure and high dislocation density. Annealing, particularly at higher temperatures, considerably reduced the yield strength and caused significant recovery in both the elongation and strain-hardening exponent. Increasing the annealing temperature significantly decreased the dislocation density, notably coarsened the recrystallized grains, and significantly increased the fraction of twin boundaries and mean widths of annealing twins. The yield strength was found to be positively related to the dislocation density, and the elongation exhibited a negative relationship. In addition to the decrease in dislocation density, the formation of annealing twins played an important role in enhancing the elongation.

BACKGROUND: The risk factors of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy (HDP) could be summarized into three categories: clinical epidemiological factors, hemodynamic factors and biochemical factors. OBJECTIVE: To establish models for early prediction and intervention of HDP. METHODS: This study used the three types of risk factors and support vector machine (SVM) to establish prediction models of HDP at different gestational weeks. RESULTS: The average accuracy of the model was gradually increased when the pregnancy progressed, especially in the late pregnancy 28-34 weeks and >= 35 weeks, it reached more than 92%. CONCLUSION: Multi-risk factors combined with dynamic gestational weeks' prediction of HDP based on machine learning was superior to static and single-class conventional prediction methods. Multiple continuous tests could be performed from early pregnancy to late pregnancy.

Semi-interpenetrating network membranes based on poly(phenylene oxide) and poly(acrylonitrile-vinylimidazole) for high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell applications

In this study, a series of semi-interpenetrating network (semi-IPN) structure proton exchange membranes (PEMs) based on linear polyolefins and cross-linked poly(phenylene oxide) (cPPO) was fabricated for fuel cell applications. The newly synthesized membranes exhibit better flexibility and higher chemical and thermal stability than cPPO membrane owing to a semi-IPN structure. After treatment with Fenton's reagent at 80 degrees C for 240 h, all the synthesized semi-IPN membranes (cPPO-[AN-VBIm]x) show a remaining mass of >90%, indicating good oxidation stability. The proton conductivity and fuel cell performance of cPPO-[AN-VBIm](50) membranes (91 mS cm(-1) at 160 degrees C and 514 mW cm(-2) at 140 degrees C, respectively) are better than those of cPPO membranes (51 mS cm(-1) and 87 mW cm(-2), respectively under the same conditions). This study contributes significantly toward membrane research, reporting a facile and efficient method for fabricating high-performance phosphoric acid-doped membranes for high-temperature fuel cell applications that could guide future studies on efficient and practicable high-temperature PEMs.

Study on the temperature uniformity of workpieces inside an annealing furnace

A numerical analysis model of the transient temperature field was established to address the issue of temperature field measurement in a silicon carbide annealing furnace. Numerical simulations of the vacuum annealing process yielded temperature distributions at 550 degrees C, 1200 degrees C, and 1700 degrees C. Real-time temperature measurements using internal thermocouples were conducted at two points within the furnace, showing actual temperature variations. The comparison between simulated and measured data revealed that the maximum error during the holding stage was within 3 %. Based on this, an analysis of the temperature distribution inside the silicon carbide vacuum annealing furnace was performed. The results indicate that increasing the holding temperature during the annealing process effectively reduces the time needed for the workpieces to stabilize at a uniform temperature and improves temperature uniformity by the end of the process. Additionally, by the end of the annealing process, the highest temperatures of the workpieces are concentrated primarily in the middle pieces. The temperature difference among workpieces near the center is minimal, remaining within 2 degrees C. By the end of the holding phase, 43.64 % of the workpieces in the furnace meet the process requirements. This study offers valuable insights for the structural design and temperature control of silicon carbide vacuum annealing furnaces.

With a focus on a class of origami-inspired metamaterials, this work explores the role of panel confinement in their mechanical response under cyclic loading. The goal is twofold: (i) quantify the magnitude change in snapping force and energy dissipation attained by varying the severity of confinement of selected panels;and (ii) leverage insights to modulate in situ their mechanical response as dictated by a given application, hence propose panel confinement modulation as a practical design route for response reprogrammability. Through computational modelling, proof-of-concept fabrication and cyclic testing, we first identify and characterize the governing factors enabling either the alteration or the preservation of the snapping force magnitude during repeated cycles of forward and backward loading. Then, we demonstrate how the in situ modulation of the constrained distance between selected panels enables reprogramming their snapping sequence and energy dissipation. Uterine contraction is one of the most important indication in the labor progression. Electrohysterogram (EHG) is a promising method for monitoring uterine contraction and discriminating efficient and inefficient contractions. This study aims to analyze the difference of EHG signals between two groups. EHG signals are recorded with abdominal electrodes from 20 pregnant women, including 10 in term labor group and 10 in non-labor group. Typical linear and nonlinear characteristics of EHG signals, including root mean square (RMS), peak frequency (PF), median frequency (MDF), mean frequency (MNF), parameters from wavelet decomposition (W4, W5) and time reversibility (Tr) are extracted. These characteristics are compared between contraction and non-contraction in term labor group and non-labor group. The result shows that RMS, W4 and W5 of contraction are significantly larger than non-contraction both within term labor group and between two groups (all p<0.001). However, MDF and MNF are significantly smaller (all p<0.05). Furthermore, all characteristics of non-contraction show no significant difference between two groups, except MNF. The variability of RMS, W4, W5 and Tr of contraction are significantly larger than non-contraction both within term labor group and between two groups (all p<0.05, with p<0.001 for W5 and Tr). However, the variability of MDF, PF and MNF are significantly smaller (all p<0.05). Moreover, the variability of all characteristics of non-contractionshows no significant difference between two groups, except MNF. We have shown that characteristics of EHG signals and their variability during contraction are quite different from non-contraction. Therefore, it is feasible to separate uterine contractions and monitor uterine activity with EHG signals.

Natural gas hydrates are a promising and environmentally sustainable energy resource, but their commercial production remains challenging. External heating is crucial for improving production efficiency. In this study, we employed a self-developed simulator (IGG-hydrate) to compare the thermal performance of three key heating methods: electric heating (EH), steam injection (SI), and hot water injection (WI). Quantitative indicators, including heating and depressurization thresholds, were introduced to assess the effectiveness of each method. The results demonstrate that external heating significantly facilitates hydrate dissociation, with electric heating and steam injection showing comparable gas production rates and early-stage efficiency. However, both electric heating and steam injection methods can cause localized overheating near injection wells, leading to energy inefficiency. In contrast, hot water injection achieves a more uniform temperature distribution and a broader heating range, while avoiding excessive temperature rise. However, it also reduces depressurization efficiency and increases subsidence near the wells. To optimize performance, we propose a steam-water alternating injection strategy: steam is injected initially for rapid dissociation near the wells, followed by hot water injection to extend the heating range and maintain thermal efficiency with the same equipment.

However, this experiment, in color mutated region, leaded to blurred ***, our proposed method added color space structural information, which based on HVS Weber's law, to the cost function. we use the differential excitation of WLD reflects the structure of color *** robust cost measures can reduce percent of bad pixels in mutated color region. The proposed method use color image, which is used after epipolar line rectification.
