Development of an Interactive Medical Knowledge Graph Based Tool Set

The field of clinical research has reached a turning point in terms of the range and diversity of available data and their potential to improve human health and well-being. However, due to discipline-specific variances in terminology and representation, the data is often compartmentalized, disorganized, and inaccessible to a broad audience. In response to these challenges, we designed and evaluated a pilot knowledge graph-based MedKaaS tool capable of integrating existing clinical datasets and translating those data into insights intended to augment human reasoning and accelerate scientific research. In this paper, we present the architecture and performance of our system, which has been applied to several real-world use cases in collaboration with subject-matter specialists. The MedKaaS Tools are actively developed, with regular updates to performance and features. Our future plans include developing a more user-friendly interface and expanding the visualization capabilities for knowledge exploration.

Validation of the World Health Organization's parental vaccine hesitancy scale in China using child vaccination data

Evidence for the validity and reliability of the World Health Organization's 10-item vaccine hesitancy scale (VHS) in different settings is not sufficient, especially for criteria validity. This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the VHS using child vaccination data in China. A cross-sectional survey was performed with parents of 19-48-month-old children at six vaccination clinics in Wuxi City between September and October 2020. The VHS was revised to category A (expanded program on immunization, EPI) VHS and category B (Non-EPI) VHS. Factor analysis was used to confirm the latent domain and to assess the model structure. The average variance extracted (AVE) was calculated to assess convergent validity, and Cronbach's alpha and composite reliability (CR) were used to determine internal consistency. The association between VHS scores and children's vaccination status was examined to assess criteria validity using logistic regression. The survey response rate was 75.3% (n = 802). Two factors were identified, explaining 64.60% and 63.34% of the common variance in categories A and B VHS, respectively. The Cronbach's alpha of > 0.7 and CR of >0.7 in the scale indicated the VHS has acceptable internal consistency. The AVE values indicated that convergent validity was not ideal for the VHS. There were no statistically significant associations between VHS scores and vaccination status, indicating that the criterion validity was not ideal. The VHS needs improvement before becoming a standard survey tool.

Defoliant sensitivity is an important trait of machine-picked cotton that directly affects the defoliation efficiency and the quality of machine-picked cotton fibers. Identification of the genetic components underlying defoliant sensitivity in upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) is highly important. In this study, the defoliation rate (DR) of 328 re-sequenced upland cotton accessions after 5 days of defoliant treatment was evaluated at two locations for two years in four environments;the results showed a great variation among the accessions, and the phenotype were normally distributed. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was subsequently performed with resequencing data and defoliation rate data. As a result, two quantitative trait loci (QTL) related to defoliation rate were identified, qDS-A05 and qDS-A06, among which, qDS-A06 was identified in three environments. By combining linkage disequilibrium (LD) analysis, haplotype analysis, and expression analysis, a key candidate gene for DR was identified in qDS-A06, which was named GhDS-A06. This gene encodes a carboxylate clamp (CC)-tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR) protein, and is likely involved in the development of the abscission zone according to the reference of the function of TPR proteins in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) and Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana L.). Additionally, the favorable haplotype frequency of GhDS-A06 varied among diverse areas of cotton growing in China, and the favorable haplotype frequency in northwestern China was much greater than that in other regions, which suggested that the favorable haplotype GhDS-A06 was artificially selected during breeding for machine-harvested cotton in northwestern China. The findings in the study not only provide genetic insights into defoliant sensitivity in upland cotton but also offer an ideal target for molecular breeding of defoliant sensitivity improved machine-harvested cotton plants.

This paper presents the work of ImageSem group in the ImageCLEFmed Caption 2021 task. In the concept detection subtask, we employed the transfer learning-based multi-label classification model as our baseline. We also trained multiple fine-grained MLC models based on manually annotated semantic categories, such as Imaging Type, Anatomic Structure, and Findings, which may reveal clinical insights of radiology images. We submitted 9 runs to the concept detection subtask, and achieved the F1 Score of 0.419, which ranked 3rd in the leader board. In the caption prediction subtask, our first method simply combines detected concepts according to the sentence patterns. The second method used a dual path CNN model for matching images and captions. We submitted 4 runs to the caption prediction subtask, and achieved the BLEU score of 0.257, which ranked 6th among the participating teams. © 2021 Copyright for this paper by its authors. Identifying key elements for evidence-base medicine using pretrained model and graph convolution network

Objective: Evidence-based medicine (EBM) provides a framework to support clinicians' decision-making processes using the best evidence currently available in the field. The key elements of clinical research can be defined by a framework called PICO, which identifies the sentences in a medical literature text that belong to the four key elements reported in clinical trials: Participants/Problem (P), Intervention (I), Comparison (C) and Outcome (O). This study aims to establish an effective detection method for key elements of evidence-based medical research. Methods: Based on the text features of key elements framework, we propose a deep learning model BERTGCN which combined large-scale pretraining model and graph convolution network (GCN) for detecting key elements of evidence-based medicine. In this model, the sentences which are initialized with pre-trained BERT representations and the words in the EBM evidence were recognized as the sentence nodes and word of the graph which were used to train GCN model. At the same time, the sentences were used to fine tune the pretraining model. Results: We tested our proposed approach over PubMed-PICO dataset is a data set containing tens of thousands of EBM key elements extracted from PubMed. The F1-score of P/I/O in the model we proposed reached 91.3%, 85.8% and 90.0% respectively. Experimental results show that our model outperforms the current optimal model. Conclusions: BERTGCN is able to leverage the advantages of both worlds: large-scale pretraining and transudative learning to improve the efficiency of detecting evidence-based medical evidence from research publications.

Influence of Femtosecond Laser Surface Modification on Tensile Properties of Titanium Alloy

Titanium alloy components often experience damage from impact loads during usage, which makes improving the mechanical properties of TC4 titanium alloys crucial. This paper investigates the influence of laser scanning irradiation on the tensile properties of thin titanium alloy sheets. Results indicate that the tensile strength of thin titanium alloy sheets exhibits a trend of initial increase followed by a decrease. Different levels of enhancement are observed in the elongation at break of a cross-section. Optimal improvement in the elongation at break is achieved when the laser fluence is around 8 J/cm2, while the maximum increase in tensile strength occurs at approximately 10 J/cm2. Using femtosecond laser surface irradiation, this study compares the maximum enhancement in the tensile strength of titanium alloy base materials, which is approximately 8.54%, and the maximum increase in elongation at break, which reaches 25.61%. In addition, the results verify that cracks in tensile fractures of TC4 start from the middle, while laser-induced fracture cracks occur from both ends.

Cable External Breakage Source Localization Method Based on Improved Generalized Cross-Correlation Phase Transform with Multi-Sensor Fusion

In response to the need for cable outer sound source localization, this paper proposes a collaborative localization method based on an improved generalized cross-correlation phase transform (GCC-PHAT) and multi-sensor fusion. By constructing a secondary cross-shaped sensor array model, employing a phase transform weighting function to suppress environmental noise, and incorporating an adaptive environmental compensation algorithm to eliminate multipath effects, a set of spatial localization equations is established. Innovatively, a dynamic weighting factor linked to the startup threshold is introduced; the Levenberg–Marquardt optimization algorithm is then used to iteratively solve the nonlinear equations to achieve preliminary localization in a single-pile coordinate system. Finally, a dynamic weighted fusion model is constructed through DBSCAN spatial clustering to determine the final sound source position. Experimental results demonstrate that this method reduces the mean square error of time delay estimation by 94.7% in a 90 dB industrial noise environment, decreases the localization error by 65.4% in multi-obstacle scenarios, and ultimately maintains localization accuracy within 3 m over a range of 100 m. This performance is significantly superior to that of traditional TDOA and SRP-PHAT methods, offering a high-precision localization solution for underground cable protection.

目的分析2015—2023年江苏省无锡市风疹的流行特征,为防控风疹提供依据。方法通过中国麻疹监测信息报告管理系统收集风疹监测病例和实验室检测资料,采用描述性分析风疹确诊病例的时间、地区和人群分布特征。结果2015—2023年无锡市报告风疹监测病例2167例,其中风疹确诊病例154例,报告发病率为0.25/10万,均为实验室确诊病例,实验室检测阳性率为7.11%。临床症状以出疹和发热为主,分别占96.75%和86.36%。2015年和2019年为风疹报告发病高峰,其他年份散发;风疹发病有明显的季节性,2—5月为流行月。锡山区和惠山区报告发病率较高,分别为0.44/10万和0.42/10万。男性风疹确诊病例101例,女性53例,男女比为1.91∶1;男性报告发病率为0.32/10万,高于女性的0.18/10万(P<0.05)。年龄主要集中在19~<46岁,112例占72.73%。职业为工人43例,占27.92%;家务及待业人员27例,占17.53%。风疹确诊病例含风疹成分疫苗免疫率为12.99%,低于排除麻疹风疹病例的36.20%(P<0.05);≥19岁人群免疫史以不详为主。结论2015—2023年无锡市风疹报告发病率维持在较低水平,冬春季高发,锡山区和惠山区为高发地区,19~<46岁、男性和工人是重点防控人群。

Capsule structured Al/FeF3/AP energetic microspheres with enhanced combustion performance and energy release efficiency by a microexplosion reaction

The agglomeration and sintering of aluminum (Al) metal fuels lead to inadequate combustion and low energy release efficiency in the solid propellant systems. Herein, we assemble Al particles with gas generator of ferric trifluoride (FeF3) into capsule structured microspheres to detonate a microexplosion reaction by the evaporation -induced self-assembly technique, with encapsulating by ammonium perchlorate (AP) oxidant. The generated ternary Al/FeF3/AP microspheres achieved superior heat of combustion (12719.75 J g-1) and combustion temperature (1639.6 degrees C) owing to the full contact between components, reduced reaction transport distance, and the fierce shattering microexplosion combustion. Combustion mechanism analysis indicated that Al2O3 layer that hindered the oxidation reaction of Al was etched by the hydrogen fluoride (HF) from FeF3 decomposition, which caused the rapid splashing of nano Al clusters to detonate shattering microexplosion combustion. Furthermore, the ternary Al/FeF3/AP microspheres dramatically improve the combustion performance of hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB)-based propellants and achieve a burning rate of 2.975 mm s-1, higher than most of the published HTPB/AP/Al propellants to date. The construction of Al/FeF3/AP microspheres exhibits a huge po-tential for the improvement of the propulsion power of rockets and weapons.

Structural brain characteristics and gene co-expression analysis: A study with outcome label from normal cognition to mild cognitive impairment

Background: Longitudinal studies reported that some elderly people with normal cognition (NC) converted to mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and some remained normal state (NC_S). The underlying factor for this difference conversion of NC is worthy of exploration Methods: Eighty-three NC participants were tracked for eight years. Thirty participants transitioned from NC to MCI (NC_MCI). The remaining 53 participants retained an NC_S. The structural brain features and genetic expression of the 83 NC participants were obtained. We applied weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to inquire into the co-expression network of those. Mediator effect analysis of regulatory roles was conducted to inquire into the associations between brain measures, expression values, and clinical scores. Results: The main results are: 1) 20 brain features and 740 gene expression had significant differences between the two groups, 2) one module including 187 genes had the most correlation with cortical thickness of left superior temporal sulcus (***), 3) NFKBIA and RARA genes were the top two genes that made the greatest contribution to *** thickness, and 4) mediating effect was found between the *** thickness, the NFKBIA and RARA expression levels, and clinical scores. Conclusion: Our results provide a theoretical foundation based on gene expression and brain imaging for the factors of NC with different outcomes.
