Community structure of benthic macroinvertebrates in native and introduced mangroves of northern Beibu Gulf, China: Implication for restoring mangrove ecosystems

Introduced mangroves are widely used to restore mangrove ecosystems in South China. Results of potential impacts on indicative benthic macroinvertebrates are divergent. We explored the community structure of benthic macroinvertebrates in the mangrove ecosystem of northern Beibu Gulf, China across four habitats: native Avicennia marina mangrove, introduced Laguncularia racemosa mangrove, native-introduced mixed mangrove, and unvegetated intertidal flat. Based on the Hill number, community structure was estimated from the dimensions of estimated species richness, diversity, evenness, and species composition similarity. Benthic macroinvertebrates in the unvegetated flat significantly differed from the other three assemblages in mangroves;introduced L. racemosa mangrove had relatively distinct benthic macroinvertebrate assemblage from the native A. marina and the mixed mangroves, with lower species richness and similarity but higher diversity and evenness. Considering the lack of unanimous conclusion of potential impact on benthic macroinvertebrates under complex species interactions, native mangroves should be of top priority in ecosystem restoration.

A taxonomic study of Hyalinoecia species based on the materials deposited in the Marine Biological Museum of the Chinese Academy of Sciences （MBMCAS） yielded two species： Hyalinoecia tubicola （MOiler, 1776） and H. papillata Imajima, 1999. Both species were collected from the sandy bottoms in the northern South China Sea. Hyalinoecia tubicola is widely distributed from the coast of Guangdong Province southwards to the Xisha Islands. Hyalinoecia papillata is reported for the first time in the South China Sea. It differs from H. tubicola in having a prolonged, tongue-like prechaetal lobe with papillae along the lateral margins in the first parapodium （vs. auricular prechaetal lobe with smooth margins）. The morphological description and illustration of both species are given.

We study the differences of two consecutive eigenvalues lambda i - lambda i - 1 , i up to 2 g - 2, for the Laplacian on hyperbolic surfaces of genus g , and show that the supremum of such spectral gaps over the moduli space has infimum limit at least 4 1 as the genus goes to infinity. A min-max principle for eigenvalues on degenerating hyperbolic surfaces is also established.

Intelligent Spectrum Sharing Strategy for Integrated Satellite-Maritime Heterogeneous Mobile Networks

Spectrum sharing is a pivotal technology for integrated satellite-maritime network to improve spectrum efficiency. However, the majority of existing spectrum sharing approaches relied on time-frequency multiplexing to circumvent or suppress interference, and often overlooked the problem of incomplete observability and interference present in heterogeneous systems. This limitation hindered overall system throughput improvements. In this article, an intelligent spectrum sharing strategy for integrated satellite-maritime heterogeneous mobile networks is firstly proposed. This strategy aims to operate co-frequency communication transmissions within the interference constraints, as derived from protocols and standards of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), to maximize the overall system throughput and spectral efficiency. Furthermore, considering the limitation that the satellite cannot fully observe channel statuses, we model the spectrum sharing process as a Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP). We employ an algorithm architecture that combines Dueling Deep Q-learning Network (DQN) and Double DQN to address this challenge, which enables satellites to efficiently evaluate the value of all channel allocation actions, thereby enhancing decision-making accuracy and algorithm convergence speed. Simulation results validate the superiority of our proposed strategy over compared methods in terms of throughput and stability.

Two new and two rarely known species of Branchinotogluma (Annelida: Polynoidae) from deep-sea hydrothermal vents of the Manus Back-Arc basin, with remarks on the diversity and biogeography of vent polynoids

The polynoid worms Branchinotogluma spp. are common and frequently abundant in deep-sea hydrothermal vents. They have the highest species diversity among the vent polynoids and various kinds of sexual dimorphism. Our investigation of polychaete specimens collected from deep-sea hydrothermal vents in the Manus Back-Arc Basin revealed four species of Branchinotogluma, including two new ones. These include Branchinotogluma segonzaci Miura and Desbruyeres (1995);B. trifurcus Miura and Desbruyeres (1995);B. pettiboneae sp. nov.;and B. ovata sp. nov. Branchinotogluma pettiboneae sp. nov. resembles B. tunnicliffeae (Pettibone, 1988), but can be distinguished from the latter by the reduced parapodia on segment 20 without notopodial lobes or notochaetae. Branchinotogluma ovata sp. nov. is most similar to B. elytropapillata Zhang et al., 2018, but differs from the latter in the structure of segment 19 in males, which is almost entirely wrapped inside segment 18 and invisible ventrally. The identities of the four species were well supported by genetic distance and phylogenetic analyses of the mitochondrial c oxidase subunit I (COI), 16S rRNA, 18S rRNA, and 28S rRNA genes. By combining reliable data on Branchinotogluma, Branchipolynoe, Lepidonotopodium, and Levensteiniella, the four most diverse polynoid genera occurring in hydrothermal vents, we evaluated their distribution pattern and delineated seven major hydrothermal biogeographic provinces worldwide. The Western Pacific harbors a higher species diversity of vent polynoids than the Eastern Pacific. Our analysis indicates that the Western Pacific is geographically complex and may have played an important role in the dispersal and speciation of vent polynoids.

A novel method for satellite prediction of VDE-TER service traffic information based on multilayers bidirectional LSTM

Satellite prediction of very high frequency (VHF) Data Exchange (VDE)-Terrestrial (VDE-TER) ship-to-ship Self-Organized Networks (SON) service traffic information is crucial for wireless resource allocation of VHF Data Exchange System (VDES). Due to the VDE-TER, channel load observed by the satellite changes rapidly and the historical information cached on the satellite is limited;the prediction of VDE-TER service traffic is difficult. This paper proposes a multilayer bidirectional long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network model (MLB-LSTM), which controls the amount of forgetting of historical information and the amount of memory of current information through the LSTM unit, so that the model can better learn the nonlinear changes of service traffic. The bidirectional LSTM module combines forward and backward time series data, reducing the amount of data required for prediction and enhancing the prediction accuracy of the model. Numerical results show that the proposed prediction model significantly outperforms traditional methods and is able to adapt to rapidly changing VDE-TER data. The average multicast rate (AMR) is analyzed in a multicast channel utilizing analog beamforming with finite-alphabet inputs, considering statistical channel state information (CSI). New expressions for the AMR are derived for non-cooperative and cooperative multicasting scenarios. Asymptotic analyses are conducted in the high signal-to-noise ratio regime to derive the array gain and diversity order. It is proved that the analog beamformer influences the AMR through its array gain, leading to the proposal of efficient beamforming algorithms aimed at maximizing the array gain to enhance the AMR.

The Indo Pacific Convergence Zone (IPC) is recognized as an area of highest taxonomic and functional diversity. The polychaetes have garnered attention as their enormous functional trait diversity and their significant role in biomonitoring ecosystems. Here, we developed a comprehensive dataset for polychaetes in the IPC, encompassing information on species distribution, DNA barcodes, and functional traits. The species distribution data were collected from 39,310 occurrence records, with over 13% newly contributed from museum collections and 350 scientific papers. This dataset also provides 29% known species coverage in the IPC, 154 mitochondrial genomes (35.1% are new contributions), and 7,052 COI/18S/16S sequences (4.6% are new contributions). Our functional traits subdatabase comprises approximately 12,000 records and 2,831 species, belonging to 696 genera and 75 families, with 90% of which are new additions. The functional trait data were categorized into 13 traits spanning morphology, life history, physiology, and behavior. The datasetbase provide an unprecedented and original contribution for conservation and for studying the biogeography, evolution processes, and ecology of tropic organisms.

A novel electromagnetic wave absorption geopolymer originated from iron tailings and blast furnace slag

In this work, a novel electromagnetic wave absorption geopolymer was created with efficient utilization of two solid wastes iron tailings and blast furnace slag, meanwhile the mechanism and impacts of iron tailings content, water-solid ratio and specimen thickness on their electromagnetic wave absorption and mechanical property were systematically investigated. It was found the pores, micro-cracks and unreacted particles in the specimens are benefitial for electromagnetic wave absorption but against to compressive strength, even though the compressive strength reaches 69.7 MPa with the iron tailings content 50% and water-solid ratio 0.4. The addition of iron tailings significantly enhances the electromagnetic wave absorption properties of the geopolymers, and increasing iron tailings content improves the number of pores, micro-cracks and the permeability of geopolymers. The electromagnetic wave absorption properties of the geopolymer initially increase and then decrease with the increase of specimen thickness and water-solid ratio. With an iron tailings content 70%, water-solid ratio 0.4 and thickness 30 mm, the effective absorption bandwidth (< -5 dB) was optimized to 10.44 GHz with a minimum reflection loss of -13.34 dB. A new mechanism for electromagnetic absorption in iron tailings has been proposed, in which the electromagnetic wave absorption of geopolymers is mainly dominated by magnetic loss and spatial propagation loss. This study provides higher competitiveness and comprehensive utilisation of iron tailings in the field of electromagnetic wave absorbing building materials, and has great potential for applications in military and other fields affected by high electromagnetic wave frequencies.
