A synergistic water-saving strategy combining stage-specific irrigation and application of exogenous thiamine enhances drought resistance of Xinjiang cotton

Background and aimsXinjiang is the largest cotton planting area in China. However, the perennial water shortage in Xinjiang restricts the development of the cotton industry, making drought one of the important limiting factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of water-saving scheme and thiamine (Thi) application on alleviating the adverse effects of drought stress on the growth and development of *** this study, five Xinjiang-released cotton varieties (Jinken1775, Jinken1565, Huamian702, Zhongmian979, and Jinfeng2) were selected as the research object, and Xinluzao8 served as the drought-sensitive control. Comprehensive drought resistance index (D) of the drought resistance coefficient (DRC) of four yield and four quality traits were used to evaluate the drought resistant ability of the six cotton varieties under different water conditions and Thi spraying *** stage-specific irrigation strategy (60% during vegetative vs. 90% during the flowering and boll stage) concurrently maintained higher drought resistance across cultivars, with Jinken1565 exhibited the highest drought resistance. This scheme reduced irrigation by 26% while sustaining fiber quality. Exogenous 50 mM Thi further enhanced drought tolerance, reducing transpiration rate by 33% and blade damage by 55%. These results demonstrate that stage-specific water management optimizes drought adaptation in cotton cultivation under drought *** study suggests that a 26% water-saving scheme was proposed for most drought-resistant varieties planted in Xinjiang, and an appropriate scheme to achieve stable yield by Thi application during the early drought condition was proposed for varieties with low drought resistant ability.

aMAP Score as a Predictor for Long-Term Outcomes in Patients with HBV-Related Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure

Background and Aim: The long-term outcomes of patients with hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure (HBV-ACLF) remain not well known. This study aimed to investigate whether aMAP score can predict re-hospitalization, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) occurrence and long-term mortality in patients with HBV-ACLF. Methods: A total of 82 patients diagnosed with HBV-ACLF and survived over 6 months were enrolled. The median follow-up period was 105 (75.9, 134.1) months. The Cox proportional hazards or logistic regression analysis was used to determine independent risk factors. Cumulative incidence of HCC and survival rate were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier analysis. Results: Multivariate analysis identified that the aMAP risk score was an independent predictor of re-hospitalization (odds ratio [OR] = 1.112, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.021-1.211, p = 0.015), hepatocellular carcinoma occurrence (hazards ratio [HR] = 2.277, 95% CI: 1.014-5.114, p = 0.046) and mortality (HR = 1.366, 95% CI: 1.040-1.794, p = 0.025). High-risk aMAP scores were associated with higher risk of HCC occurrence and mortality. Conclusion: A higher aMAP score was an independent risk predictor of re-hospitalization, HCC occurrence and mortality, respectively, in HBV-ACLF patients who survived over 6 months, which can be applicable for early risk stratification and clinical decision.

With the world increasing concerns about climate change and environmental protection, reducing carbon emissions has become a crucial issue for various industries. With industrial development and rapid urbanization leading to a surge in energy demand, Chinas building-related carbon emissions have escalated in recent years. By 2020, the carbon emissions from construction industry accounted for a significant 50.9% of the total emissions nationwide. Concrete structures account for more than 60% of the total building stock in China, calling for the adoption of low-carbon design methods in concrete structures. Drawing upon the safety design process, this paper introduces a practical low-carbon probabilistic design approach. This method aims to facilitate engineering decision-making that meets the carbon reduction targets quantitatively, thus fostering sustainable development within the construction industry. By exploring the randomness inherent in carbon emissions, a low-carbon limit state equation was developed. To assess the level of concrete structures to meet carbon reduction targets, the concept of low-carbon index was introduced. This paper also distinguished between permanent carbon and variable carbon based on their sources. The former includes carbon emission from structural materials at the materialization stage and the end-of-life stage, while the latter encompasses operational carbon and embodied carbon from decorative materials and maintenance materials. Within these boundaries, two distinct low-carbon design paradigms were clarified: One focusing on structural embodied carbon and the other addressing whole life carbon in buildings. Considering the uncertainty of carbon emissions, the partial factor was introduced to simplify the probabilistic design into approximate probability design criteria. In this paper we prove the following Willmore-type inequality: On an unbounded closed convex set K ⊂ Rn+1 (n ≥ 2), for any embedded hypersurface Σ ⊂ K with boundary ∂Σ ⊂ ∂K satisfying a certain contact angle condition, there holds n +11∫Σ |H|n dA ≥ AVR(K)|Bn+1|. In this paper, we introduce a notion of capillary Schwarz symmetrization in the half-space. It can be viewed as the counterpart of the classical Schwarz symmetrization in the framework of capillary problem in the half-space. The extraction of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi was investigated using the response surface methodology-genetic algorithm mathematical regression model, and the extraction variables were optimized to maximize the flavonoid yield. Furthermore, a simple and efficient ultrafiltration-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and molecular docking methods were developed for the rapid screening and identification of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors present in Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. Subsequently, four major chemical constituents, namely baicalein, norwogonin, wogonin, and oroxylin A, were identified as potent acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. This novel approach, involving the use of ultrafiltration-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and molecular docking methods combined with stepwise flow rate counter-current chromatography and semi-preparative high-performance liquid chromatography, could potentially provide a powerful tool for the screening and extraction of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors from complex matrices and be a useful platform for the production of bioactive and nutraceutical ingredients.

With the continuous expansion of China's power grid scale and the increasing number of power users year by year, it is necessary to ensure the normal power supply of users. When a power failure occurs, it is particularly critical whether the emergency repair task can be completed quickly and scientifically. In this paper, an intelligent repair model of "unmanned" distribution network based on deep reinforcement learning is proposed, which adopts speech recognition technology and deep reinforcement learning algorithm to achieve the "unmanned" of the whole system. Users can transmit the emergency repair information to the voice recognition module of the power supply emergency repair center by voice, SMS and IMS, and the module will get the emergency repair position and the amount of emergency repair tasks. Then, the resource allocation module is used to learn the emergency repair resource allocation strategy online, and the intelligent control of emergency repair in distribution network is realized. To verify the proposed algorithm, it is compared with two typical allocation strategies under the same settings. The results of the experiments demonstrate that the method based on deep reinforcement learning performs better in terms of emergency repair delay and intelligent emergency repair of the power supply in distribution networks.

The paper provides a detailed description of the topographical distribution characteristics, along-strike morphologic variations, and tectonic implications of the Kyushu-Palau Ridge (KPR) in the 13 degrees-17 degrees N regions. The description is based on multibeam bathymetric data that was recently collected in the mid-southern segment of KPR and its surrounding areas. The findings indicate that the KPR in the studied region comprises several discontinuous seamounts and seamount chains. Along the ridge running from east to west, there is significant variation in the topography of the seafloor. Visible on this ridge are numerous deep-sea depressions and apparent topographical discontinuities. Geological tectonic processes such as plate subduction and seafloor spreading largely determine the topography of the seafloor. During the beginning of the Parece Vela Basin (PVB) spreading, the pre-existing volcanic arcs fractured under east-west extensional stress, resulting in the development of prominent seamounts, sharp ridges, relief alternations, and rift basins in the KPR. The east-west stress was subsequently transmitted to the weak and inactive mid-ocean ridge in the West Philippine Basin (WPB), which was reactivated and resulted in an episode of magma-poor spreading during 30-26 Ma. This episode caused the KPR to move eastward, stretched, and destroyed its pre-existing structure.
