The molecular imprinting polymeric microspheres (MIPs) of stignmasterol was synthesized by suspension polymerization, utilizing stignmasterol (stig.) as template molecule, methyl methacrylate (MMA) as functional monomer, divinyl benzene (DVB) as cross-linker agent, CaCO3 and SDS as dispersant, Na2S2O8 as initiator and lowpolar solvents (toluene) as porogenic solvents. The morphology, averages size and selectivity for stignmasterol of the synthesized polymers were respectively examined and evaluated by HPLC, SEM and Photon Correlation Spectroscopy. The experiment results showed that the optimal condition was 3g stig.:40 mL MMA:15 mL DVB:4g CaCo3 + 2g SDS:14 mL tolu.. During polymerization initiator Na2S2o8 should be added in more batches and in the early period a high speed string was applied, with the polymerization the string rate was reduced. The prepared MIPs, which average diameters were below 100 μm and narrow size distribution, could effectively separate stignmasterol from structural analogues β-stiosterol with above 1.65 separate factor and about 1.2 mg/g adsorptive capacity for stigmasterol.
