Validation of the World Health Organization's parental vaccine hesitancy scale in China using child vaccination data

Evidence for the validity and reliability of the World Health Organization's 10-item vaccine hesitancy scale (VHS) in different settings is not sufficient, especially for criteria validity. This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the VHS using child vaccination data in China. A cross-sectional survey was performed with parents of 19-48-month-old children at six vaccination clinics in Wuxi City between September and October 2020. The VHS was revised to category A (expanded program on immunization, EPI) VHS and category B (Non-EPI) VHS. Factor analysis was used to confirm the latent domain and to assess the model structure. The average variance extracted (AVE) was calculated to assess convergent validity, and Cronbach's alpha and composite reliability (CR) were used to determine internal consistency. The association between VHS scores and children's vaccination status was examined to assess criteria validity using logistic regression. The survey response rate was 75.3% (n = 802). Two factors were identified, explaining 64.60% and 63.34% of the common variance in categories A and B VHS, respectively. The Cronbach's alpha of > 0.7 and CR of >0.7 in the scale indicated the VHS has acceptable internal consistency. The AVE values indicated that convergent validity was not ideal for the VHS. There were no statistically significant associations between VHS scores and vaccination status, indicating that the criterion validity was not ideal. The VHS needs improvement before becoming a standard survey tool.

Lipid droplets (LDs) are dynamic organelles that store neutral lipids when energy is in excess and serve as an energy reservoir during energy deprivation. Altered hepatic lipid metabolism is a critical factor influencing the development of liver disease, such as viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Perilipin 2 (Plin2) is a protein associated with the metabolism of intracellular LDs and is closely related to the clinical outcome of liver disease. While the impact of Plin2 on the pathogenesis of liver disease is gradually being recognized, the mechanism of action remains unclear. In this review, we highlight recent advances in the understanding of Plin2's role in the pathogenesis of liver disease through LD biogenesis, LD contact sites, LD dynamics, and lipophagy. Furthermore, we discuss the current opportunities for Plin2-targeted therapy for liver disease.

An algorithm for modelling escalator fixed loss energy for PHM and sustainable energy usage

Fixed loss energy of escalators denotes the energy consumption of an unloaded escalator. Fixed loss energy fluctuates over time indicating varying operation conditions. We propose an algorithm (named the Optimization approach) to compute daily fixed loss energy based on energy consumption sensor data and validate our algorithm by comparing it to two benchmark methods (named the Classical and Engineering approaches) using a set of experimental data. Our evaluation includes a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each approach, ultimately recommending our method due to its nearly 20 times smaller bias. Our optimization approach shows significant improvement (p-value=0.022): error declines from 2.87 for the classical approach to-0.11 for our approach. To further highlight the practical application within Prognostic Health Management (PHM), we design an Exponential Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) chart for monitoring the fixed loss over time and illustrate the potential of this approach in reducing energy usage and costs associated with escalator operation. We estimate that 5 Wh of energy every minute can be saved, which roughly equals 10% of the fixed loss energy of the escalator in our example. This study enables us to support health status assessment of escalators, and provides valuable insights into maintenance effectiveness, as well as identifying excessive energy consumption.

Effects of the seepage capability of overlying and underlying strata of marine hydrate system on depressurization-induced hydrate production behaviors by horizontal well

Marine gas hydrates mostly occur in high-water content and non-diagenetic submarine sediments without tight stratigraphic traps. Therefore, the seepage capability of overlying and underlying strata (OUS) serves as a crucial parameter to analyze hydrate production behaviors. This study focuses on the numerical simulation study on the effects of the seepage capability of OUS on hydrate production behaviors in depressurization-induced production of three-phase hydrate deposits using a horizontal well. As shown by the simulation results, in the early stage of hydrate production, the permeability of the OUS had little effects on gas production rates. In long-term hydrate production, the hydrate deposit with lower permeability OUS has higher cumulative gas production, larger gaswater ratio and hydrate dissociation scope, and less cumulative water production. Moreover, the hydrate production efficiency first decreased rapidly and then tended to be stable as the permeability of OUS increased, and hydrate production behaviors are similar while the permeability of OUS larger than 1.0 mD. Herein, a waterresisting layers were constructed in overlying and/or underlying strata to decrease the seepage capability of OUS. Compared to the original hydrate deposits, the cumulative gas production and gas-water ratio increased by 31% and 147%, respectively but the water production was only 76% on the 5th year of the simulated production in which water-resisting layers were designed. Furthermore, the water-resisting layer in underlying strata produced more significant effects on hydrate production efficiency than the layer in overlying strata. All these indicate that the low-permeability OUS (especially in underlying strata) can restrain fluid invading into hydrate reservoirs, increase the pressure gradient of hydrate reservoirs and significantly improve the hydrate production efficiency during long-term hydrate production. In this present study, a series of 5-phenyl-2-furan and 4-phenyl-2-oxazole derivatives were designed and synthesized as phosphodiesterase type 4 (PDE4) inhibitors. In vitro results showed that the synthesized compounds exhibited considerable inhibitory activity against PDE4B and blockade of LPS-induced TNF-alpha release. Among the designed compounds, Compound 5j exhibited lower IC50 value (1.4 mu M) against PDE4 than parent rolipram (2.0 mu M) in in vitro enzyme assay, which also displayed good in vivo activity in animal models of asthma/COPD and sepsis induced by LPS. Docking results suggested that introduction of methoxy group at para-position of phenyl ring, demonstrated good interaction with metal binding pocket domain of PDE4B, which was helpful to enhance inhibitory activity. BACKGROUND: Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is a standard for the diagnosis of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, clinically, some cases with normal results were diagnosed as GDM in the third trimester. OBJECTIVE: To establish a risk model based on energy metabolism, epidemiology, and biochemistry that could predict the GDM pregnant women with normal OGTT results in the second trimester. METHODS: Qualitative and quantitative data were analyzed to find out the risk factors, and the binary logistic backward LR regression was used to establish the prediction model of each factor and comprehensive factor, respectively. RESULTS: The risk factors including the rest energy expenditure per kilogram of body weight, oxygen consumption per kilogram of body weight, if more than the weight gain criteria of the Institute of Medicine, the increase of body mass index between the second trimester and pre-pregnancy, and fasting blood glucose. By comparison, the comprehensive model had the best prediction performance, indicating that 85% of high-risk individuals were correctly classified. CONCLUSION: Energy metabolism, epidemiology, and biochemistry had better recognition ability for the GDM pregnant women with normal OGTT results in the second trimester. The addition of metabolic factors in the second trimester also improved the overall prediction performance.

Alpha-aluminum hydride (a-AlH3) is an ideal energetic combustion agent, but its poor stability and safety limit its application. Therefore, we prepare different composites by using the solvent/anti-solvent method to coat different pyrotechnic binders on the surface of a-AlH3. The vacuum stability test show that the minimum outgassing of Shellac-coated a-AlH3 composite is only 1.2 mL/g at 50 ? for 6 days. Due to the good electrical insulation properties of Viton, Viton-coated a-AlH3 composite have the highest E-50 value of electrostatic sensitivity. In addition, the pyrotechnic binders coating not only protects the activity of the a-AlH3 but also effectively increases its burning rate. Viton-coated a-AlH3 composite have more gaseous products and maximum flame area during combustion. This study illustrates that a-AlH3 coated with pyrotechnic binders is a means to address its stability and safety, laying the foundation for its application in solid propellants.

Background: It was reported that one in four parents were hesitant about vaccinating their children in China. Previous studies have revealed a declining trend in the vaccine willingness rate in China. There is a need to monitor the level of parental vaccine hesitancy toward routine childhood vaccination and hesitancy toward the COVID-19 vaccine during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: This study aims to assess changes in trends of parental attitudes toward routine childhood vaccines and COVID-19 vaccinations across different time periods in China. Methods: Three waves of cross-sectional surveys were conducted on parents residing in Wuxi City in Jiangsu Province, China from September to October 2020, February to March 2021, and May to June 2021. Participants were recruited from immunization clinics. Chi-square tests were used to compare the results of the three surveys, controlling for sociodemographic factors. Binary and multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to examine factors related to parental vaccine hesitancy and COVID-19 vaccine willingness. Results: Overall, 2881, 1038, and 1183 participants were included in the survey???s three waves. Using the Vaccine Hesitancy Scale, 7.8% (225/2881), 15.1% (157/1038), and 5.5% (65/1183) of parents showed hesitancy to childhood vaccination (P<.001), and 59.3% (1709/2881), 64.6% (671/1038), and 92% (1088/1183) of parents agreed to receive a COVID-19 vaccine themselves in the first, second, and third surveys, respectively (P<.001). In all three surveys, ???concerns about vaccine safety and side effects??? was the most common reason for refusal. Conclusions: There has been an increasing acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination in Wuxi City, China. Effective interventions are needed to mitigate public concerns about vaccine safety.

This study presents a novel experimental approach to investigate the changes in pulse wave patterns and pulse wave characteristic parameters in patients before, during, and after hemodialysis by analyzing radial artery pulse waves collected at time intervals from end-stage renal disease patients receiving hemodialysis. The results show that the morphology of the pulse wave is characterized by diversity between patients due to different vascular elasticity, but five categories can be classified according to the shape. When individuals of the same waveform Type-Are studied, we found that there were significant differences in some of the characteristic parameters of the pulse wave at different times of the day as the hemodialysis process progressed, a finding that also verifies the existence of hemodynamic changes during hemodialysis.
