Objectives Subclinical thyroid disorders are common in pregnant women, which are associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. Physiological changes in pregnancy and the lack of pregnancy-specific reference ranges pose great challenge for the managements of subclinical thyroid disorders in pregnancy. We aimed to establish trimester-specific thyroid hormone reference intervals throughout pregnancy in southern Chinese population. Methods we measured the serum thyroid hormone (TSH, FT4, TPO-AB) using Abbott electrochemiluminescence immunoassay in 5589 pregnant women during 2012–2013. Patients with known thyroid disorders, autoimmune disease, recurrent miscarriage, hyperemesis gravidarum and pre-eclampsia were excluded. Trimester-specific reference ranges (2.5th, 97.5th centiles) were calculated. Results TSH median T1: 1.19 ± 0.99 mIU/L ( N = 3532), T2: 1.40 ± 1.02 mIU/L ( N = 1623), T3: 1.48 ± 1.30 mIU/L ( N = 434). FT4 median T1: 15.7 ± 3.12 pmol/L ( N = 3532), T2: 13.81 ± 2.99 pmol/L ( N = 1623), T3: 12.92 ± 2.98 pmol/L ( N = 434). TSH reference range T1: 0.01–3.55 mIU/L, T2: 0.01–4.13 mIU/L, T3: 0–4.67 mIU/L. FT4 reference range T1: 12–21.44pmol/L, T2: 10.01–19.36 pmol/L, T3: 9.29–20.31 pmol/L. TSH slightly increased throughout gestation. FT4 decreased throughout gestation. Conclusions We established pregnancy-specific thyroid function reference intervals of southern Chinese population, which is beneficial in clinical practice. Disclosures L. Liu: None. X. Zhang: None. S-phase kinase-associated protein-2 (Skp2) is overexpressed in human cancers and associated with poor prognosis. Skp2 acts as an oncogenic protein by enhancing cancer cell growth and tumor metastasis. The present study has demonstrated that small hairpin RNA (shRNA)-mediated downregulation of Skp2 markedly inhibits the viability, proliferation, colony formation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis of human gastric cancer MGC803 cells, which express a high level of Skp2. In contrast, Skp2 shRNA had only a slight effect on the above properties of BGC823 cells, which express a low level of Skp2. In accord, knockdown of Skp2 suppressed the ability of MGC803 cells to form tumors and to metastasize to the lungs of mice, and the growth of established tumors, by inhibiting cell proliferation and enhancing cell apoptosis. In contrast, overexpression of Skp2 promoted tumorigenesis of BGC823 cells in mice. Skp2 depletion induced cell cycle arrest in the G(1)/S phase by upregulating p27, p21, and p57 and downregulating cyclin E and cyclin-dependent kinase 2. Skp2 depletion also increased caspase-3 activity, impeded the ability of cells to form filopoidia and locomote, upregulated RECK (reversion-inducing cysteine-rich protein with kazal motifs), and downregulated matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 activity and expression. The results suggest that downregulating Skp2 warrants investigation as a promising strategy to treat gastric cancers that express high levels of Skp2.

In this study, the characterizations of soot from ceramic furnace flue gas were studied using environmental scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, particle size distribution, specific surface area measurements, crystal characterizations and organic pollutant analysis. Soot particles were mainly spherical nanoparticles with diameters less than 100 nm. However, the particles could be aggregated into larger ones with a median diameter of 3.66 mu m. Nanometer pores with diameters ranging 2-4 nm were also detected in the soot particles. Because of their large surface areas and pore volumes, other pollutants in the environment can be adsorbed to soot particles potentially making them more hazardous. Several elements, including C, O and Pb, were detected in the soot, but only small amounts of crystalline materials were observed. This is because most of the detected carbon and metals/metal oxides/metal salts were amorphous. Approximately 90 different organic pollutants were detected in the soot, including aromatic compounds and other hydrocarbons. Because of the carcinogenic properties of aromatic compounds and the photochemical effects of hydrocarbons, soot could have serious health and environmental impacts. The results suggest that soot particles are hazardous material and urgently need to be controlled. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The tube spread around strong cooling technology is new technology of the making semisolid slurry and semisolid billet in Semi-Solid Processing. The technologic parameter of its on the A356 Alloy is researched in the article. It is showed by the result of the experimentation: that the fine and form verge on rotundity crystal grain is made at 180L/h and at 640-650 degrees C. It has met all the conditions in the semi-solid processing on semisolid billet. Semi-solid forming technology has been called the "new metal processing technology in the 21st century", which in foreign countries has certain industrial applications. In 1996 in the United States the sales of semi-solid casting was up to 1 billion dollars. But the industrial application in China is almost empty, one of the most important reasons is: the preparation of slurry or billet is too complicated or cost of production is too high, so that semi-solid forming technology in China has suffered serious setbacks on the road of industrialization. According to this situation, we have done a little attempts on manufacturing slurry and billet of semi-solid forming and have developed a new technology of spread around strong cooling whose intellectual property rights belong to us, equipment production is simple and the process is easy to control and the semi-solid slurry is east to prepare continuously.
