In the scene-based infrared focal plane non-uniformity correction algorithm, the temporal high-pass filter non-uniformity correction algorithm is widely cited in various system platforms due to its low hardware platform requirements, but this algorithm is prone to "ghosting"problems and the corrected image still contains certain non-uniformity problems. To solve these problems, this paper proposes an adaptive temporal high-pass filter algorithm based on guided filter. The algorithm uses guided filter to accurately separate high-frequency components containing a large amount of fixed noise and image details, and performs image motion through adjacent frame residual images detection to determine whether to use high-frequency components for iterative operations in the temporal high-pass algorithm, and use the current image detail information to adaptively update the correction parameters of the temporal high-pass filter to avoid the accumulation of image detail information to complete the entire infrared non-uniformity correction . The algorithm in this paper uses actual infrared scene images to compare with the traditional temporal high-pass filter algorithm and bilateral filtering temporal high-pass algorithm. The results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper not only has a good correction effect, but also effectively suppresses the "ghosting"problem. © 2021 ACM.

Apart from the blood-brain barrier (BBB), the efficacy of immunotherapy for glioblastoma (GBM) is limited by the presence of intrinsic and adaptive immune resistance, implying that co-delivery of various immunotherapeutic agents or simultaneous regulation of different cells is urgently needed. Bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) offer a unique advantage in the treatment of GBM, owing to their multifunctional properties as carriers and immune adjuvants and their ability to cross the BBB. However, traditional OMVs can lead to toxic side effects and disruption of tight junctions in the BBB. Therefore, to enhance the in vivo safety and targeting capability of OMVs, we introduced engineered OMVs to reduce toxicity and further constructed a modularly assembled nanoplatform by performing simple peptide modifications. This nanoplatform demonstrates satisfactory biosafety and is able to continuously cross the BBB and target GBM with the assistance of Angiopep-2. Subsequently, immunogenic substances on OMVs, along with carried small-interfering RNA (siRNA) and doxorubicin, can promote and enhance the reprogramming and phagocytic abilities of macrophages and microglia, respectively, and increase the immunogenicity of GBM, ultimately overcoming GBM immune resistance to enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy. This OMVs-based nanoplatform provides a new paradigm and insights into the development of immunotherapy for GBM.

Clinoptilolite mediated activation of peroxymonosulfate through spherical dispersion and oriented array of NiFe2O4: Upgrading synergy and performance

Inspired by the features of both transition metal oxide and natural clinoptilolite (flaky structure with suitable pore diameter and open skeleton structure), we adopted a robust strategy by immobilization of nickel ferrite nanoparticles (NiFe2O4) on the clinoptilolite surface via typical citric acid combustion method. The hybrid catalyst exhibited enhanced peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation efficiency and bisphenol A (BPA) degradation performance. Calculated by effective equivalent of NiFe2O4, it is found that the reaction rate constant (k) of NiFe2O4/clinoptilolite/PMS system (0.1859 min(-1)) was 11.9 times higher than that of bare NiFe2O4/PMS system (0.0156 min(-1)), which demonstrated that catalyst would be conjugated to PMS or contaminant efficiently and renders the rapid degradation and mineralization in the presence of clinoptilolite. After comprehensive characterization analysis and DFT simulations, natural mineral carrier effect (i.e. decreased crystalline size, increased oxygen vacancy content, etc.), abundant surface-bonded and structural hydroxyl groups as well as effective bonding with iron or nickel ions charged for the potential activation mechanism of PMS by NiFe2O4/clinoptilolite composite. And it is indicated that not only center dot OH and SO4 center dot, but also O-1(2) was involved into series reactions. Overall, this study put forward a green and promising technology for high-toxic wastewater treatment.

Nitrogen-rich and core-sheath polyamide/polyethyleneimine@Zr-MOF for iodine adsorption and nerve agent simulant degradation

Radioactive nuclides and highly toxic organophosphates are typical deadly threats. Materials with the function of radioactive substances adsorption and organophosphates degradation provide double protection. Herein, dual-functional polyamide (PA)/polyethyleneimine (PEI)@Zr-MOF fiber composite membranes, fabricated by in-situ solvothermal growth of Zr-MOF on PA/PEI electrospun fiber membranes, are designed for protection against two typical model compounds of iodine and dimethyl 4-nitrophenyl phosphate (DMNP). Benefiting from the unique core-sheath structure composed of inner nitrogen-rich fibers and outer porous Zr-MOF, the composite membranes rapidly enrich iodine through abundant active sites of the outer sheath and form complexes with the amine of inner PEI, exhibiting a highly competitive adsorption capacity of 609 mg g(-1). Moreover, it can adsorb and degrade DMNP with the synergy of PEI component and Zr-MOF, achieving an 80 % removal of DMNP within 7 min without any additional co-catalyst. This work provides a feasible strategy to fabricate dual-functional materials that protect against radioactive and organophosphorus contaminants.

The water/gas two-phase flow is a frequently encountered question in the percolation field, and is especially important for the exploitation of natural gas hydrates because their decomposition products are exactly liquid water and natural gas. We studied the water/methane two-phase flow in a hydrophilic cylindrical nanopore by performing molecular simulations, and obtained high-quality nanoflows under different water saturation (Sw) thanks to the newly established nano-manometer method to control pressure difference accurately. With increasing Sw, the methane flow decreases almost linearly until a sudden stop when Sw >= 0.52. The formation of the water lock accounting for this phenomenon is observed clearly, and the larger Sw, the earlier formation of the water lock as well as the longer water lock. Based on careful data analysis, a water lock model and its formation mechanism are newly proposed with two pieces of strong evidence - the continuous reduction of the surface area of the water/gas interface when the water lock forms and the existence of maximum thickness of water film for different Sw. Thus, the competition between the surface tension of the water/gas interface and the adsorption of the water/wall interface controls the development of the water lock. These findings are very helpful for un-derstanding the two-phase percolation and optimizing the gas production and water removal schemes during hydrate exploitation. In addition, the nano-manometer can be widely used in other nanoflow simulations for measuring the local pressure accurately.

Methyleugenol is widely found in essential oils from aromatic plants, attracting insects for pollination and possessing antimicrobial and antioxidant features. Methyleugenol content in the essential oil from Melaleuca bracteata leaves is 90.46 %, making it an excellent material for assessing methyleugenol's biosynthetic pathway. Eugenol synthase (EGS) and eugenol-o-methyltransferase (EOMT) represent key genes in methyleugenol's biosynthetic pathway but their respective functions are unclear. In this study, overexpression and virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) techniques were applied to investigate the major regulatory gene among MbEGS1, MbEGS2, MbEGS3, and MbEGS4 in the biosynthesis pathway of methyleugenol. We also aimed to examine the coordination mechanism between EGS and EOMT in methyleugenol production by M. bracteata. The data revealed MbEGS4 transcription and methyleugenol content were most significantly increased after overexpression of the MbEGS1-4 gene in M. bracteata and Fragaria vesca. Conversely, MbEGS4 transcription and methyleugenol content were most significantly reduced after MbEGS1-4 gene silencing by VIGS in M. bracteata. These results underscore a major regulatory role for the MbEGS4 gene in the biosynthetic pathway of methyleugenol in M. bracteata. Remarkably, upon overexpression and silencing of MbEOMTs, the transcription levels of MbEGSs were notably upregulated, with MbEGS4 showing the highest increase. Collectively, these findings suggested the presence of a specific transcription factor bound to the promoters of MbEGS and MbEOMT, inducing their expression for the synergistic and efficient production of methyleugenol in M. bracteata.

Expression of a plastid-localized sugar transporter in the suspensor is critical to embryogenesis

Plant growth and development rely on sugar transport between source and sink cells and between different organelles. The plastid-localized sugar transporter GLUCOSE-6-PHOSPHATE TRANSLOCATER1 (GPT1) is an essential gene in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thahana). Using a partially rescued gpt1 mutant and cell-specific RNAi suppression of GPT1, we demonstrated that GPT1 is essential to the function of the embryo suspensor and the development of the embryo. GPT1 showed a dynamic expression/accumulation pattern during embryogenesis. Inhibition of GPT1 accumulation via RNA1 using a suspensor-specific promoter resulted in embryos and seedlings with defects similar to auxin mutants. Loss of function of GPT1 in the suspensor also led to abnormal/ectopic cell division in the lower part of the suspensor, which gave rise to ectopic embryo, resulting in twin embryos in some seeds. Furthermore, loss of function of GPT1 resulted in vacuolar locali- zation of PIN-FORMED1 (PIN1) and altered DRS auxin activity. Proper localization of PIN1 on the plasma membrane is essential to polar auxin transport and distribution, a key determinant of pattern formation during embryogenesis. Our findings suggest that the function of GPT1 in the embryo suspensor is linked to sugar and/or hormone distribution between the embryo proper and the maternal tissues, and is important for maintenance of suspensor identity and function during embryogenesis.

The climate and environment of the Tibetan Plateau (TP) are sensitive to human activities. As a key component highly influencing global climate and environment, organic aerosol over the TP is investigated in this study, especially in organic composition and its sources. This study aims to explore the composition characteristics, seasonal variation, and potential sources of organic aerosol including two episodes through one-year sampling at the Yangbajing (YBJ) site in the TP. A total of 120 primary and secondary organic species as well as organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) were measured in PM2.5. The annual average concentrations of OC, EC, and organic species were 3.12 +/- 3.73 mu gC/m3, 0.28 +/- 0.18 mu gC/m3 and 104 +/- 36.6 ng/m3, respectively. High ratio of OC to EC (OC/EC) and low ratio of fatty acids to n-alkanes were found for aerosol in the TP. The OC/EC ratio was 11.8 +/- 10.2 on average at the YBJ site and strongly correlated with levoglucosan, a tracer for biomass burning, but not so with typical secondary species, indicating that the high ratio of OC/EC over the TP was more influenced by biomass burning than secondary formation. The ratio of fatty acids to n-alkanes at YBJ was 1.39 +/- 0.29 on average, lower than those reported over urban areas (3.13 +/- 1.49), probably owing to less residential cooking activities. Seasonally, the non-monsoon season had significant increases in primary organic aerosol (POA) tracers, among which biomass burning tracers had a higher increase percentage than other specific tracers. On the contrary, the levels of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) tracers, especially isoprene- and monoterpenederived SOA tracers were enhanced in the monsoon season (summer time), largely resulting from high emissions of biogenic volatile organic compounds. Background: There is limited knowledge on the yield of performing capture-based targeted ultradeep sequencing on bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) specimens from advanced nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. This study aimed to evaluate gene variations and performance characteristics in BAL and tissue specimens using targeted sequencing. Methods: This cohort study retrospectively enrolled 20 patients with advanced NSCLC. The variant detection percentage, correlation of tumor mutation burden (TMB), and allele frequency heterogeneity (AFH) were compared between paired BAL and tissue samples. A three-tiered system was also applied for the interpretation of gene variants according to the guidelines. Results: No statistical difference was observed in variant detection between BAL and tissue samples (P = .591 for variant tier and P = .409 for variant type). In general, BAL achieved higher detection rates in tier I variants (96.2% vs 84.6%) and gene fusions (75% vs 50%) compared with tissue samples;tissue samples had better variants detection rates for other variants, such as tier II (89.6% vs 76.0%), tier III (87.1% vs 72.6%), single nucleotide variant (SNV, 89.6% vs 76.5%), insertion/deletion/duplication (InDel, 74.6% vs 69.8%) and copy number variation (CNV, 93.8% vs 43.8%). Besides, there were significant correlations of TMB (R-2 = 0.96, P < .001) and AFH (R-2 = 0.87, P < .001) between BALs and paired tissues. Conclusions: The findings demonstrate that BAL may serve as a supplement in liquid biopsy for mutation detection and for routine utilization in clinical settings.

Sporophytic control of anther development and male fertility by glucose-6-phosphate/phosphate translocator 1(OsGPT1) in rice

Coordination between the sporophytic tissue and the gametic pollen within anthers is tightly controlled to achieve the optimal pollen fitness. Glucose-6-phosphate/phosphate translocator(GPT) transports glucose-6-phosphate, a key precursor of starch and/or fatty acid biosynthesis, into plastids. Here, we report the functional characterization of Os GPT1 in the rice anther development and pollen fertility. Pollen grains from homozygous osgpt1 mutant plants fail to accumulate starch granules, resulting in pollen sterility. Genetic analyses reveal a sporophytic effect for this mutation. Os GPT1 is highly expressed in the tapetal layer of rice anther. Degeneration of the tapetum, an important process to provide cellular contents to support pollen development, is impeded in osgpt1 plants. In addition, defective intine and exine are observed in the pollen from osgpt1 plants. Expression levels of multiple genes that are important to tapetum degeneration or pollen wall formation are significantly decreased in osgpt1 anthers. Previously, we reported that At GPT1 plays a gametic function in the accumulation of lipid bodies in Arabidopsis pollen. This report highlights a sporophytic role of Os GPT1 in the tapetum degeneration and pollen development. The divergent functions of Os GPT1 and At GPT1 in pollen development might be a result of their independent evolution after monocots and dicots diverged.
