Effect of planting salt-tolerant legumes on coastal saline soil nutrient availability and microbial communities

Soil salinization is a serious global environmental problem affecting sustainable development of agriculture. Legumes are excellent candidates for the phytoremediation of saline soils;however, how soil microbes mediate the amelioration of coastal saline ecosystems is unknown. In this study, two salt-tolerant legumes, Glycine soja and Sesbania cannabina were planted in coastal saline soil for three years. Soil nutrient availability and microbiota structure (including bacteria, fungi, and diazotrophs) were compared between the phytoremediated soils and control soil (barren land). Planting legumes reduced soil salinity, and increased total carbon, total nitrogen, and NO3  -N contents. Among the soil microbiota, some nitrogen-fixing bacteria (e.g., Azotobacter) were enriched in legumes, which were probably responsible for soil nitrogen accumulation. The complexity of the bacterial, fungal, and diazotrophic networks increased significantly from the control to the phytoremediated soils, suggesting that the soil microbial community formed closer ecological interactions during remediation. Furthermore, the dominant microbial functions were chemoheterotrophy (24.75%) and aerobic chemoheterotrophy (21.97%) involved in the carbon cycle, followed by nitrification (13.68%) and aerobic ammonia oxidation (13.34%) involved in the nitrogen cycle. Overall, our findings suggested that G. soja and S. cannabina legumes were suitable for ameliorating saline soils as they decreased soil salinity and increased soil nutrient content, with microorganisms especially nitrogen-fixing bacteria, playing an important role in this remediation process.

In the process of extracting naturally-occurring oceanic gas hydrates, the dissociation of hydrates can causea reduction in soil strength. This reduction has the potential to trigger slope failure and submarine landslides,which present a catastrophic threat to offshore facilities and hydrate production. This research aims to create a robust and accurate machine-learning model that can efficiently predict stability of submarine continental slopes where gas hydrates are widespread. By collecting and analyzing 144 relevant cases, a comprehensive dataset was constructed, incorporating slope basic data, overlying and underlying layer data, and geological parameters of the hydrate layer. After conducting a correlation coefficient analysis between the characteristic parameters of the dataset and the output, the key characteristic parameters were determined. To model the dataset and assess its performance, four machine learning techniques were employed: Random Forest(RF), XGBoost, K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). Formation physical parameters, geotechnical parameters, and NGH parameters were taken as input parameters, and the stability of NGH slopes was taken as prediction indicator. Evaluation metrics such as the ROC and confusion matrix were employed to comprehensively evaluate these models’ classification ability. Among these algorithms,the RF algorithm achieves the best prediction accuracy and AUC value, demonstrating its potential in submarine continental slopes stability prediction of natural gas hydrates. Additionally, sensitive analysis using Gini impurity calculations revealed that hydrate decomposition degree is the most significant factor affecting slope stability, followed by the burial depth and thickness of the hydrate layer. Prior studies have attributed and confirmed the importance of hosts' information disclosure on boosting their performance due to the prominent information asymmetry on peer-to-peer rental platforms. This study takes a step further by analyzing how hosts and neighbors' disclosure of descriptions simultaneously and interactively influences the review volume and performance of Airbnb listings. Based on a panel dataset and fixed effect regression models, the results confirmed the findings of prior studies that self-disclosure of descriptions has a positive effect on the review volume and performance. We also initially find a substitute effect between self -disclosure of descriptions and neighbors' disclosure of public information, with a complementary effect be-tween self-disclosure of descriptions and neighbors' disclosure of private information. As a novel attempt to analyze the effect of neighbors' information disclosure on property performance, this study provides important implications for relevant literature and for hospitality professionals to improve information disclosure strategies.

The tumor microenvironment of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is the main block for the penetration of chemotherapy. In the tumor microenvironment, a dense matrix composed of fibrin is formed on the exterior, while the interior is featured by high reduction, hypoxia and low pH. How to match the special microenvironment to on-demand drug release is the key to improve chemotherapeutic efficacy. Herein, a microenvironment-responsive micellar system is developed to deepen tumoral penetration. Briefly, the conjugation of a fibrin-targeting peptide to PEG-poly amino acid has been utilized to achieve accumulation of micelles in the tumor stroma. By modification of micelles with hypoxia-reducible nitroimidazole which becomes protonated under acidic conditions, their surface charge is more positive, facilitating deeper penetration into tumors. Paclitaxel was loaded onto the micelles via a disulfide bond to enable glutathione (GSH)-responsive release. Therefore, the immunosuppressive microenvironment is relived through the alleviation of hypoxia and depletion of GSH. Hopefully, this work could establish paradigms by designing sophisticated drug-delivery systems to tactfully employ and retroact the tamed tumoral microenvironment to improve the therapeutic efficacy based on understanding the multiple hallmarks and learning the mutual regulation.

Time-dependent gut microbiota analysis of juvenile Oreochromis niloticus by dietary supplementation of resveratrol

To evaluate the changes in bacterial diversity at various time points under resveratrol supplementation, we aimed to investigate the diversification of gut microbiota and the changes in total genetic diversity. We performed 16S rDNA gene sequencing at different time points (15, 30, and 45 days) to analyze the gut microbiota of tilapia. Fusobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Bacteroidetes (15 days) or Cyanobacteria (30 and 45 days) were found to be the three most abundant phyla. Cyanobacteria (15 and 30 days), Proteobacteria (15 days), Firmicutes and Chlamydiae (30 and 45 days), Planctomycetes (30 days), Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, and Fusobacteria (45 days) in the 0.05 g/kg RES group increased as compared to that in the controls. Proteobacteria and Cyanobacteria significantly decreased and increased at 30 and 45 days, respectively, while the reverse pattern was observed at 15 days. The Bacteroidetes:Firmicutes and Proteobacteria:Cyanobacteria ratios were significantly increased (15 and 45 days, P < 0.05) and decreased (30 days, P < 0.05). RES supplementation did not affect the richness and diversity of the gut microbiota in tilapia. Our findings may contribute to the development of strategies for the management of diseases.

Preparation and Properties of Pyrotechnic Binder Encapsulated α-AlH3 Composites by Solvent/Anti-solvent Method

Alpha-aluminum hydride (a-AlH3) is an ideal energetic combustion agent, but its poor stability and safety limit its application. Therefore, we prepare different composites by using the solvent/anti-solvent method to coat different pyrotechnic binders on the surface of a-AlH3. The vacuum stability test show that the minimum outgassing of Shellac-coated a-AlH3 composite is only 1.2 mL/g at 50 ? for 6 days. Due to the good electrical insulation properties of Viton, Viton-coated a-AlH3 composite have the highest E-50 value of electrostatic sensitivity. In addition, the pyrotechnic binders coating not only protects the activity of the a-AlH3 but also effectively increases its burning rate. Viton-coated a-AlH3 composite have more gaseous products and maximum flame area during combustion. This study illustrates that a-AlH3 coated with pyrotechnic binders is a means to address its stability and safety, laying the foundation for its application in solid propellants.

Association Between Clinical Manifestations and Prognosis in Patients with COVID-19

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors associated with pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and clinical outcome among patients with novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods: This was a cross-sectional multicenter clinical study. A total of 95 patients infected with COVID-19 were enrolled. The COVID-19 diagnostic standard was polymerase chain reaction detection of target genes of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). Clinical, laboratory, and radiologic results, as well as treatment outcome data, were obtained. ARDS was defined as an oxygenation index (arterial partial pressure of oxygen/fraction of inspired oxygen) <= 300 mm Hg. Findings: Multivariate analysis showed that older age (odds ratio [OR], 1.078;p = 0.008) and high body mass index (OR, 1.327;p = 0.024) were independent risk factors associated with patients with pneumonia. For patients with ARDS, multivariate analysis showed that only high systolic blood pressure (OR, 1.046;p = 0.025) and high lactate dehydrogenase level (OR, 1.010;p = 0.021) were independent risk factors associated with ARDS. A total of 70 patients underwent CT imaging repeatedly after treatment. Patients were divided in a disease exacerbation group (n = 19) and a disease relief group (n = 51). High body mass index (OR, 1.285;p = 0.017) and tobacco smoking (OR, 16.13;p = 0.032) were independent risk factors associated with disease exacerbation after treatment. (C) 2020 The Authors. 浮子漂移实验能够捕捉海域表面海流的特征,为提高海上漂移物漂移轨迹预测模式的预测精度提供改进依据.通过在福建近海的浮子漂移实验,选取兴化湾、厦门湾与湾外近岸海域浮子的运动轨迹,对研究海域的表面流进行分析,并在业务化三维海洋动力模型基础上,结合拉格朗日粒子追踪法,建立了福建近海海上目标物漂移轨迹预测模式,利用浮子漂移实验对漂移模式在福建近海的适用性进行了验证.研究结果表明:湾内浮子运动主要受潮流作用,呈现往复运动的趋势;湾外浮子运动主要由外海环流驱动,有沿等深线迁移趋势,并受到潮过程作用局部形成回流.而本研究构建的福建近海海上目标物漂移轨迹预测模式的模拟结果与浮子漂移结果基本一致,并且相对于湾内的轨迹预测,湾外的模拟有更高的可信度.同时浮子漂移实验还表明FES潮流模型在台湾海峡有较高的准确度,而湾内欠佳.

煤矿矿井水是重要的非常规水源,矿井水的资源化利用对缓解矿区水资源短缺和环境保护具有重要意义。分析了矿井水的来源和水质特点,综述了含悬浮物、高矿化度、酸性和含特殊污染物等不同类型矿井水的主要处理技术,总结了各处理技术的特点和存在问题。大部分矿井水都含有一定量悬浮物,且水质水量变化较大,应着力提高井下水仓和地面调节池的预沉作用,开发和完善矿井水井下处理技术,结合自动化、智能化,实现无人值守;随高矿化度矿井水数量不断增加,其处理技术已成为矿井水处理领域的研究重点,应强化预处理,开发高效除硅除硬技术,引入能量回收装置,结合新能源和可再生能源开发绿色节能耦合脱盐技术,整体优化零排放工艺,降低浓盐废水处理成本;酸性和含特殊污染物矿井水是目前矿井水处理中的难点,应采取分布式高效定向处理技术,探索耦合工艺和自然修复治理。在国家政策引领下,矿井水处理技术将朝着更加节能、高效、智能和环保的方向发展。

Objectives Milletia speciosa Champ (MS), a traditional Chinese medicine, has the abilities of antistress, antifatigue, anti-oxidation and so on. In our previous study, MS was found to antidepression while the underlying mechanism of which needs further elucidation. Methods Here, a proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1-NMR)-based metabonomics combined network pharmacology research approach was performed to investigate the antidepressive mechanism of MS act on mouse with chronic unpredictable mild stress-induced depression. Key findings Results showed that MS could alleviate the ethology of depression (including sucrose preference degree, crossing lattice numbers and stand-up times) and disordered biochemical parameters (5-hydroxytryptamine, norepinephrine and brain-derived neurotrophic factor). Metabonomics study and network pharmacology analysis showed that MS might improve depression through synergistically regulating five targets including Maoa, Maob, Ache, Ido1 and Comt, and three metabolic pathways such as tryptophan metabolism, synthesis of neurotransmitter and phospholipid metabolism. Conclusions This study for the first time preliminary clarified the potential antidepressive mechanism of MS and provided theoretical basis for developing MS into novel effective antidepressant.
