Colorectal anastomotic leakage (Anastomotic Leakage, AL) represents a severe complication in the surgical management of colorectal cancer. Early diagnosis and prevention are crucial for enhancing patient outcomes. In recent years, as biomarker research has advanced, numerous biomarkers found in drainage fluid have been shown to be closely associated with the development of anastomotic leakage. These include C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), interleukin 6 (IL-6), matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9), among others. This review aims to examine the progress in using drainage biomarkers to predict postoperative anastomotic leakage, thereby guiding clinical decision-making and offering a scientific foundation for the prediction and prevention of postoperative anastomotic leakage.
