Phenology is one of the most sensitive processes of plant in response to global change. Anthropogenic activities have considerably increased nitrogen (N) deposition, which significant affects plant phenology. Although numerous individual studies have been conducted, it remains controversial how N addition affects phenological stages, and a comprehensive understanding of how plant phenology responds to external N inputs remains elusive. To reconcile the differences, we conducted a meta-analysis of 117 species to examine the responses of plant phenology to N addition in terrestrial ecosystems, and assessed variations in their responses in relation to ecosystem types, functional groups, and environmental conditions. Our results showed that plant phenology changed significantly after N addition, and phenology time delayed and phenology duration shortened significantly across all biomes except fruiting duration, but varied with biome types. The phenology change in cropland was more dramatical than in grassland after N addition, even in opposite directions. The response of phenological stages to N addition was consistent in two pollination types except the flowering time, the flowering time had no change in anemophilous but significantly delayed in entomophilous. In addition, the response of phenology to N addition was discrepancy among functional groups, the phenology time advanced and duration shortened in sedge, while phenology time delayed and duration shortened in other groups, and the phenology change in legume was larger than grass and forbs. We also found that environmental factors had little effects on the response of plant phenology to N addition, but significant correlation was found between the response ratios of different phenological stages. Our study suggested that phenology was sensitive to N deposition at many phenological stages, and changes in phenology may be smaller with community biodiversity increasing at ecosystem level.

In this study, to recover proteins and minimize anti-nutritional factor (ANF) levels in soybean wastewater, a novel quick-shearing system was used to obtain homogeneous electrostatic complexes between soybean whey protein (SWP) and a high concentration (4%, w/v) of polysaccharide. During processing, protein recovery and trypsin inhibitory activity loss induced by complexing with sulfated and carboxylated polysaccharides were investigated as function of polysaccharide type, pH, protein to polysaccharide mass ratio, and the physical state (solid, liquid). The removal of 80% of ANF levels and recovery of 90% of proteins were achieved using solid sulfated polysaccharides. Large amounts of particle complexes were observed for sulfated polysaccharides as compared to carboxylated polysaccharides by confocal laser scanning microscopy. A 100-kDa polyethersulfone ultrafiltration membrane was effective in recovering proteins (80%) from z-carrageenan/SWP complexes, and a small amount of loss of the polysaccharides was observed for each cycle.

Herein, five polyphenol oxidases (PPOs) obtained from Morus notabilis (Mn) were characterized. Chlorogenic acid was the most readily oxidized substrate by these MnPPOs, and the products derived from the oxidation of chlorogenic acid by MnPPOs were tested for antimicrobial activity. The results showed that products of the five MnPPOs exhibited good inhibitory effects against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, and Botrytis cinerea. Because the products of MnPPO1 exhibited the strongest antimicrobial activity, the antimicrobial mechanism of these products was explored. The results showed that the products of MnPPO1 increased cell membrane permeability and chitinase and beta-1,3-glucanase activities.

The way features propagate in Fully Convolutional Networks is of momentous importance to capture multi-scale contexts for obtaining precise segmentation masks. This paper proposes a novel series-parallel hybrid paradigm called the Chained Context Aggregation Module (CAM) to enrich feature representation. CAM gains features of various spatial scales through chain-connected ladder-style information flows and fuses them ina two-stage pro-cess, namely pre-fusion and re-fusion. The serial flow continuously increases receptive fields of output neurons and those in parallel encode different region-based contexts. Each information flow is a shallow encoder-decoder with appropriate down-sampling scales to sufficiently capture contextual information. We further adopt an attention model in CAM to guide feature re-fusion. Based on these developments, we construct the Chained Context Aggregation Network (CANet), which employs an asymmetric decoder to recover precise spatial details of prediction maps. We conduct extensive experiments on six challenging datasets, including Pascal VOC 2012, Pascal Context, Cityscapes, CamVid, SUN-RGBD and GAtech. The method of ionic membrane electrolysis was applied to prepare cerium (IV) oxide from cerium (III) chloride aqueous solution. This research focused on the effect of different current densities on electrolytic product. The results indicated that the method of ion-exchange membrane electrolysis was feasible to produce pure CeO2 particles with the chlorine content of lower than 0.020%. Under the conditions of this study, when the current density changed from 100 ***(-2) to 400 mAcm(-2), the current efficiency of CeO2 decreased monotonically from about 89.0% to 75.0%, the median particle sizes (D-50) of CeO2 samples were about 9 mu m similar to 24 mu m. After 1.5 h of roasting at 800 degrees C, the crystals of CeO2 continued to grow, and the roasted product was still CeO2, whose particle size of D50 increased from about 17 mu m (before roasting) to 27 mu m (after roasting). Additionally, it was obvious that the crystal after roasting was composed of nano-sized spherical particles.
