Several Mg-4Al-4La/Ce alloys were developed and their microstructure and mechanical properties were evaluated. The phase compositions of Mg-4Al-4La alloy consist of alpha-Mg and Al11La3 phases. While two binary Al-RE phases, Al11RE3 and Al2RE (RE=Ce/La), are formed in Mg-4Al-4Ce/La alloy, and Al11Ce3 and Al2Ce are formed in Mg-4Al-4Ce alloy. The optimal tensile properties are obtained in Mg-4Al-4Ce/La alloy, in which the UTS, YS and delta are 250, 149.2 MPa and 12.24% at room temperature, and 157.8, 116 MPa and 27% at 150 degrees C, and 99.1, 118.2 MPa and 23.2% at 250 degrees C, respectively. The mechanics properties of Mg-4Al-4Ce/La alloy are nearly same with commercial AE44. The compression creep is lower than that AJ62 alloy.

This paper presents VirtualEP, a novel simulator for eggplant growth, integrating Agent-Based Modelling technology and existing knowledge of plant physiology. VirtualEP simulates the growth and development of eggplant as an evolution of a dynamic branching network whose nodes are represented by Autonomous Virtual Organs (AVOs). The AVO possesses inbuilt data structure, states and functional rules so that it can autonomously perform physiological procedures (eg photosynthesis, nutrient uptake, storage, mobilization and respiration, etc) to respond to environmental heterogeneity. A discrete implementation of pressure-flow paradigm is incorporated to simulate carbon, water and nitrogen transport and allocation among AVOs. Simulation results demonstrate that VirtualEP can effectively deal with global nutrients allocation, growth in response to variation of air temperature, solar radiation as well as water and nitrogen stress. Moreover, VirtualEP can also provide vivid 3D visualization of these features.

Virtual Organizations (VOs) are dynamic collections of individuals, institutions, and resources. VOs are widely accepted in grid and other distributed computing environments. Previous VO research produces several separate tools to provide part of the functionality including user registration, user mapping, authentication, authorization, and VO management. However, none of the work covers all the functionality or focuses on non-functional properties. This paper formally defines virtual organization in terms of three functional requirements and four non-functional properties. The functional requirements are user management, resource management, and VO management. The non-functional properties are decentralization, flexibility, simplicity, and efficiency. The problem is formulated as designing a VO architecture to satisfy the functional requirements and achieve the non-functional properties at the same time. This paper presents a layered architecture with GNode abstraction to construct Agora, an implementation of VOs. In Agora architecture, all the entities including users, resources, and agoras are abstracted as GNodes. A naming layer is constructed to manage these GNodes. At the top, there is a logic layer implementing all Agora functionality based on GNode and managing the physical layer resources. The Agora architecture has been implemented in the Vega Grid Operating System. Agora is deployed in the china National Grid and other grid platforms with more than 27 sites and 19 applications. The evaluations through real applications, high performance computing VO scenarios, and micro benchmarks show that the Agora architecture provides complete VO functionality, while achieving decentralization, flexibility, simplicity, and efficiency.

A new associative classification algorithm based on weighted voting (ACWV) is presented. ACWV takes advantage of two methods: the optimal rule method preferring high-quality rules and the voting method considering the majority of the rules. Moreover, the method takes into account both the length and convictions of rules to calculate their weights. First, ACWV builds a class-count FP-tree (called CCFP-tree) from the given historical data. After that, the weighted voting result for a new instance can be obtained from the CCFP-tree directly without storing, retrieving and sorting rules explicitly. The label of the class with maximal sum of weighted votes is then that of the new instance. Results of the experiments with 36 data sets selected from the UCI machine learning repository show that the proposed method has its advantages in comparison with previous methods in terms of classification accuracy.

This paper makes an attempt to establish a generalized neural network for simultaneously retrieving atmospheric profiles and surface temperature from hyperspectral thermal infrared data. To generate the simulated data covering the whole actual situations, the distributions of surface material, temperature and atmospheric profiles are elaborated carefully. The simulated at-sensor radiances are divided into two sub-ranges, one in atmospheric window and another in water absorption band. The simulated data are transformed in the eigen-domain in both sub-ranges and used as the network inputs. The atmospheric profiles, surface temperature and emissivity are used as the outputs after the eigen-domain transformation. The validation of the trained network indicates that a RMSE of surface temperature around 1.6K, a RMSE of temperature profiles around 2K in troposphere and a RMSE of total water content around 0.3g/cm(2) can be obtained. The results from the net can be used as initial guess of the physical retrieval model.

Trichoderma spp. are well-known biocontrol agents because of their antimicrobial activity against bacterial and fungal phytopathogens. However, the biochemical mechanism of their antiviral activity remains largely unknown. In this study, we found that Trichokonins, antimicrobial peptaibols isolated from Trichoderma pseudokoningii SMF2, could induce defense responses and systemic resistance in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum var. Samsun NN) against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) infection. Local Trichokonin (100 nM) treatment led to 54% lesion inhibition, 57% reduction in average lesion diameter and 30% reduction in average lesion area in systemic tissue of tobacco compared with control, indicating that Trichokonins induced resistance in tobacco against TMV infection. Trichokonin treatment increased the production of reactive oxygen species and phenolic compounds in tobacco. Additionally, application of Trichokonins significantly increased activities of pathogenesis-related enzymes PAL and POD, and upregulated the expression of several plant defense genes. These results suggested that multiple defense pathways in tobacco were involved in Trichokonin-mediated TMV resistance. We report on the antivirus mechanism of peptaibols, which sheds light on the potential of peptaibols in plant viral disease control.

For wireless ad hoc or sensor networks, non-flooding, guaranteed delivery routing protocols are preferred because of limited energy. In this paper we introduce TCGR, a tree cover based geographic routing protocol for wireless networks. We assign to each node a set of short labels such that nodes are embedded in a metric space induced by one or multiple trees. Based on the embedding, we use only greedy routing to deliver packets, i.e., packets are always forwarded to the neighbor closest to the destination. Unlike many previous geographic routing protocols, we guarantee a full success ratio in finding a route to the destination, if such a route exists in the network. Moreover, each node only needs to maintain a small amount of information, which is almost surely bounded by O(log(2)n) bits, and the label size and packet header size are also bounded by O(log(2)n) bits. Simulations show TCGR can achieve remarkable performance in both path stretch and node load.
