The suitability of two algae species, Gracilaria lemaneiformis and Sargassum pallidum, for use as food sources for the abalone Haliotis discus hannai Ino was evaluated. Abalones were fed one of five experimental diets: 1) kelp Laminari japonica: 2) G. lemaneiformis: 3) S. pallidum;4) a mixed diet of L. japonica and G. lemaneiformis (1:1);and 5) a mixed diet of L. japonica and S. pallidum (1:1) for a period of 4 months. The survival, growth (shell length and body weight), condition index (body weight/shell length), and feed utilization were measured. Survival was excellent (100%) in all groups. Growth rate (body weight) was highest in the abalone fed kelp exclusively, followed by the mixed diet of kelp and G. lemaneiformis. The abalone fed S. pallidum had the lowest increase in body weight and the lowest feed intake. The mixed diet of kelp and G. lemaneiformis yielded the biggest increase in shell length. There were no significant differences in the condition index among all the treatment groups. The mean daily feed intake of L japonica was highest, followed by the mixed diets of kelp and G. lemaneiformis, and was lowest for S. pallidum. Abalone exhibited a preference for L japonica. The feed conversion efficiency was highest for G. lemaneiformis. Results suggest that G. lemaneiformis can be used as a partial substitute for kelp in the diet of cultured abalone. A neural-network-based adaptive approach is proposed for the leader-following control of multiagent systems. The neural network is used to approximate the agent's uncertain dynamics, and the approximation error and external disturbances are counteracted by employing the robust signal. When there is no control input constraint, it can be proved that all the following agents can track the leader's time-varying state with the tracking error as small as desired. Compared with the related work in the literature, the uncertainty in the agent's dynamics is taken into account;the leader's state could be time-varying;and the proposed algorithm for each following agent is only dependent on the information of its neighbor agents. Finally, the satisfactory performance of the proposed method is illustrated by simulation examples.

The microstructures and deformation behavior of Ti-based metallic powders were comprehensively investigated. It has been found that, with increasing the powder size, the phase constituent alters from pure glassy to glassy with crystalline phases (face centered cubic structured NiSnZr and hexagonal structured Ti3Sn phases). Our results suggest that the synergetic effect of the thermodynamics and kinetics determines the subsequent characteristics of the crystalline precipitations. Through comparative nanoindentation tests, it was found that the small powders exhibit more pop-in events and a larger pile-up ratio, suggesting that the plastic deformation of the metallic powders is governed by the combined effects of the free volume and the crystallization, which are determined by the cooling rate. The electronic structure of (001) polar surface of cubic zirconia was studied by GGA(WC) approximation. We found the cubic lattice near (001) surface showed an intensive tendency to transfer to tetragonal lattice. The metallic state appeared on both the terminations. For O-termination, some O2p states were vacated and hole carriers concentrated on surface oxygen-ions. For Zr-termination, some Zr4d states became partial occupied for the loss of O2p states. We observed the hole states were mainly localized at the corresponding ions on surface for both the terminations, while the charge states on Zr-termination were dispersed on surface.
