The CGH is being employed in the freeform testing for the first time. The basic concept of the optical metrology and the testing procedure are explained explicitly. A reliability analysis method for the shiplift gear according to the system-level load-strength interference model is presented. The gear is regarded as a series system with dependent failure and multiple failure models. Its reliability is obtained by calculating the probability that the minimum order statistic of the strengths exceeds the maximum order statistic of repeated random loads. The load probability distribution of gear is then obtained using Monte Carlo on the basis of load information. The contact strength and bending strength are calculated. On the basis of system-level load-strength interference analysis, system reliability of a gear is straightforward built up. Finally, system reliability of a gear is worked out, which shows a high reliability.

Poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) was used as a new material to prepare a biomimetic adsorbent by a modified double emulsion solvent evaporation technique. The enrichment capacities of the adsorbent for the toxic liposoluble organic compounds were evaluated by chlorobenzene (CB) and o-nitrochlorobenzene (o-NCB) with the adsorption isotherms, enrichment factor (EF) and enrichment kinetics. The results showed that Sips isotherm fitted the experimental data better than Langmuir and Freundlich models, as well as the pseudo-second order kinetic model fitted better than the first order model. For CB and o-NCB, the maximum adsorption capacity was 125.99 and 39.56 mg g(-1), while the maximum EF was 1204 and 1149 at 20 degrees C for 36 h, though the specific surface area (BET) of the adsorbent was only 8.45 m(2) g(-1). CB had a higher EF than o-NCB because the hydrophilic group (-NO2) decreases the liposoluble ability of o-NCB. K-ow has a positive correlation with EF, so the organochlorine compounds are liable to be adsorbed by the adsorbent. The results indicated that PHB, even polyhydroxyalkanoates, can be a new biodegradable adsorption material. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

To characterize the composition of the intestinal bacterial flora in cage-cultured adult small abalone, Haliotis diversicolor, we used both culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches. In addition, in order to investigate the presence of probable pathogens, the intestinal bacterial community structures of healthy and diseased adult abalones were compared using the denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) fingerprinting technique. Bacteria isolated from the healthy abalone intestine belonged to the genera Vibrio, Flammeovirga, Shewanella, Persicobacter and Paraferrimonas. From the 16S rRNA gene clone library analysis, the intestinal bacterial community comprised two groups: the Proteobacteria and Tenericutes. Betaproteobacteria (18.48%), Deltaproteobacteria (30.43%) and Mollicutes (35.87%) were the most dominant components in the clones and the Mollicutes were mainly Mycoplasma-affiliated clones. The DGGE band pattern demonstrated that more bands appeared in the healthy abalones (H group) than in the diseased abalones (D group). Although few potential pathogens were detected from the D group, a clustering dendrogram indicated that individuals of the H and D groups (except for D6) formed two separate clusters. An unidentified Deltaproteobacteria species and Mycoplasma sp. were the dominant components in the intestine of both the H and the D group.

Two-hop relaying systems suffer spectral efficiency loss due to the half-duplex property of relays. This paper proposes an efficient relaying protocol which can recover the spectral efficiency loss but still work with half-duplex relays. However,there exists inter-relay interference which degrades the performance of the protocol. With this consideration,a power control policy is derived to suppress the interference using game theory,and then an algorithm is given to facilitate distributed implementation. Furthermore,impact of deploying more destination antennas on performance of the relaying protocol is investigated. Simulation results show that,with the power control policy,the proposed relaying protocol can achieve high spectral efficiency.

The suitability of two algae species, Gracilaria lemaneiformis and Sargassum pallidum, for use as food sources for the abalone Haliotis discus hannai Ino was evaluated. Abalones were fed one of five experimental diets: 1) kelp Laminari japonica: 2) G. lemaneiformis: 3) S. pallidum;4) a mixed diet of L. japonica and G. lemaneiformis (1:1);and 5) a mixed diet of L. japonica and S. pallidum (1:1) for a period of 4 months. The survival, growth (shell length and body weight), condition index (body weight/shell length), and feed utilization were measured. Survival was excellent (100%) in all groups. Growth rate (body weight) was highest in the abalone fed kelp exclusively, followed by the mixed diet of kelp and G. lemaneiformis. The abalone fed S. pallidum had the lowest increase in body weight and the lowest feed intake. The mixed diet of kelp and G. lemaneiformis yielded the biggest increase in shell length. There were no significant differences in the condition index among all the treatment groups. The mean daily feed intake of L japonica was highest, followed by the mixed diets of kelp and G. lemaneiformis, and was lowest for S. pallidum. Abalone exhibited a preference for L japonica. The feed conversion efficiency was highest for G. lemaneiformis. Results suggest that G. lemaneiformis can be used as a partial substitute for kelp in the diet of cultured abalone. A novel four-way combining catalysts containing double layers was applied to simultaneously remove four kinds of exhaust pollutants (NOx, CO, HC and PM) emitted from diesel engine. The four-way catalysts were characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Ultraviolet visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS). Their catalytic performances were evaluated by temperature-programmed reaction technology. The double layer catalysts could effectively remove the four main pollutants. The highest catalytic activity was given by the two-layered catalysts of La0.6 K0.4CoO3/Al2O3 and W/HZSM-5. Under the simulated exhaust gases conditions, the peak temperature of the soot combustion was 421℃, the maximal conversion of NO to N2 was 74%, the temperature of the HC total conversion was 357℃, and the maximum conversion ratio of CO was 99%.
