Preparation of P/N/Si-containing covalent organic framework-based flame retardants and their application in epoxy resins

Balancing the enhancement of flame retardancy of epoxy resin while maintaining its mechanical capacities intact poses a significant challenge in the realm of flame-retardant epoxy resins. To reach the above objectives, a COF-based synergistic flame retardant with phosphorus, nitrogen, and silicon (PA-COF@MT) was synthesized using phytic acid (PA), montmorillonite (MT), and covalent organic framework (COF). When PA-COF@MT was added at 4 wt%, EP/PA-COF@MT exhibited a reduction of 42.1% in peak heat release rate (PHRR), 45.84% in total heat release (THR), and 59.8% in total smoke production (TSP) compared with the pure EP. LOI increased by 30.5% and UL-94 tested to V-0 grade. flame-retardant index (FRI) value of 3.03, achieving a "good" rating. Fire growth indices and mean effective combustion heat were increased while mechanical properties also improved. These findings suggest that the flame retarding mechanism of PA-COF@MT is mainly through vapor phase and condensed phase actions. The combined effects of phosphorus, nitrogen, and silicon make the surface of carbon residue solid and dense, resulting in excellent heat insulation and smoke suppression effects. In simple terms, this study provides new insights into COF-based flame retardants. Combining low-cost and simple preparation methods, PA-COF@MT has broad application prospects in flame-retardant epoxy resin systems.

Modeling the Zigzag Curves of Transition Metal Ions' Charge Transition Levels in Crystals

Predicting the defect levels of transition metal (TM) dopants in the band gap of crystals is critical in determining the charge states of TM dopants and explaining their electronic and optical properties. By analyzing the calculated charge transition levels and the crystal-field strengths of all the 3d-TM ions in several insulators, we demonstrate that the variation trend of the 3d-TM dopants in a crystal is a scaling of the variation of 3d-electron binding energies (ionization potential) of the free TM ions corrected by adding the contribution of the 3d-orbital's crystal-field splitting. We therefore develop a model to predict the relative location of TM ions' defect levels in the band gap from the defect level and crystal-field splitting of a reference TM ion in the host of concern. The model is applied to predict the defect levels of the series of TM ions in beta-Ga2O3 and ZnO, which have moderate to small band gaps, making some of the levels fall into the conduction or valence bands. These results show that the model may serve as a quick reference for related material design and optimization.

Tube electrode pulsed electrochemical machining (TE-PECM) has received widespread attention as an electrochemical perforation technique that is widely used for machining deep small holes/oblique small holes such as air film holes in blades. However, the TE-PECM process is characterized by complex multi-physics field coupling relationships and multiple time scales for multi-physics interactions, making the simulation of the pulsed electrolytic processing process computationally huge and difficult to perform. To accurately describe the multiphysical field coupling relationship for pulsed electrochemical processing. In this paper, a k-epsilon gas-liquid twophase flow model has been introduced to model the interpolar gas-liquid two-phase flow field variation law, and on this basis, a coupled multi-physics field model for pulsed electrochemical machining processing is established to provide an accurate description of the interpolar multi-physics interaction mechanism. A quasi-steady-state iterative simplification algorithm based on heat source averaging is proposed to solve the problem that the time scale span of the dissolution process leads to a huge amount of simulation calculations. The simulation analyzes the dissolution characteristics at the micro time scale and macro time scale and compares them with the full precision method. The results show that the simulation accuracy of the two methods is the same, but the simulation calculation time of the simplified algorithm is reduced by two-thirds. The experimental platform was designed and built to carry out a series of experiments under different processing times, and the results effectively verified the correctness of the simulation method.

Enhancing safety in small confined spaces with thermally triggered fire-extinguishing microcapsules from microfluidics

Fires in small confined spaces have problems such as difficulty extinguishing, fast burning speed, long duration, strong concealment, and untimely warning. Perfluorohexanone-based fire-extinguishing microcapsule technology provides an important solution to overcome these problems. However, due to the poor solubility and high volatility of perfluorohexanone, the preparation of perfluorohexanone fire-extinguishing microcapsules (FEMs) with a high encapsulation rate, good homogeneity, and low processing costs is still a great challenge. Here, we propose a microfluidic flow-focusing technique to realize efficient encapsulation of perfluorohexanone. It is shown that FEMs can spray fire-extinguishing agents at high speeds in the presence of external heat, and only one FEM is needed to extinguish a candle flame much larger than its size. Meanwhile, the extension of FEMs to two-dimensional fire-extinguishing patches (FEPs) has achieved significant results in suppressing fire and preventing fire spread, which is expected to further expand its application in various fire suppression scenarios. The microfluidic technique encapsulates perfluorohexanone for rapid fire extinguishing. Microcapsules quench flames larger than their size, extendable to two-dimensional patches, preventing fire spread.

An optimized AC side startup strategy of E-STATCOM for ITER pulsed power electrical network

During the operation of the ITER machine, hundreds of MW/Var of active and reactive power will be exchanged with the grid. The E-STATCOM scheme composed of the Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) and split supercapacitor energy storage has been proposed to improve the power compensation performance of the existing reactive power compensation system in the previous study. However, one of the main technical challenges which is lack of research is to precharge all submodule capacitors and supercapacitors from zero to their nominal voltage values efficiently during a startup process. As the capacitance and operating voltage of supercapacitors are much different from capacitors in each submodule, the startup of E-STATCOM is a more complicated process. To coordinate the energy exchange between submodule capacitors and supercapacitors, submodule capacitors and the grid, this paper presents an optimized four-stage AC side startup strategy for the E-STATCOM. The proposed method minimizes the use of current-limiting resistors while suppressing the surge current in the zero-voltage startup process of supercapacitors, in addition to optimizing the energy consumption. The pulse current charging, constant current charging and constant power charging strategies of supercapacitors are adopted in different charging stages, and the detailed coordinated control scheme between submodule capacitors and supercapacitors are described and analyzed. The effectiveness and performance of the proposed method are verified by simulation results and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) experiments. In this article, an energy consumption optimization startup strategy of E-STATCOM system using supercapacitor energy storage based MMC is proposed. This startup strategy avoids the use of current limiting resistors in supercapacitor energy storage circuits and reduces additional energy loss. image

Collision avoidance trajectory planning for a dual-robot system: using a modified APF method

Dual-robot system has been widely applied to the field of handling and palletizing for its high efficiency and large workspace. It is one of the key problems of the trajectory planning to determine the collision avoidance method of the dual-robot system. In the present study, a collision avoidance trajectory planning method for the dual-robot system was proposed on the basis of a modified artificial potential field (APF) algorithm. The interference and collision criterion of the dual-robot system was given firstly, which was established based on the method of kinematic analysis in robotics. And then, in consideration of the problem of excessive virtual potential field force induced by using the traditional APF algorithm in the process of dual-robot trajectory planning, a modified APF algorithm was proposed. Finally, the modified APF algorithm was used for motion control of a dual-robot palletizing process, and the collision avoidance performance of the proposed collision avoidance algorithm was studied through a dual-robot palletizing simulation and experiment. The results have shown that with the proposed collision avoidance trajectory planning algorithm, the two robots in dual-robot system can maintain a safe distance at all times during palletizing process. Compared with the traditional APF and rapidly-exploring random tree (RRT) algorithm, the trajectory solution time of the modified APF algorithm is greatly reduced. And the modified APF algorithm's convergence time is 14.2% shorter than that of the traditional APF algorithm.

Solar photovoltaic modules have a single color that cannot meet the requirements of architectural aesthetics. In this paper, starting from the glass cover of thin-film solar cells, to the color-coated glass (coral, green and blue) is prepared by magnetron sputtering with the aid of TFCalc software. TiO2/SiO2/TiO2/SiO2 multilayers with different thickness were prepared with an average transmittance above 73 %. The angle stability of the film color was investigated, and the color stability under different viewing angles can be improved by using high haze frosted glass as the substrate for the preparation of colored films. An average visible transmittance of 75.5 % was obtained in the coral film with the covering of the frosted glass. The use of high haze frosted glass to prepare colored film not only improves the transmittance of coated glass, but also reduces the angle dependence of color film, reduces light pollution, and facilitates the development of industrialization and PV building integration.

Proteomic Analysis of Egg Yolk Proteins During Embryonic development in Wanxi White Goose

To investigate the alterations of yolk protein during embryonic development in Wanxi white goose, the egg yolk protein composition at days 0, 4, 7, 14, 18, and 25 of incubation (D0, D4, D7, D14, D18, and D25) was analyzed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis combined with mass spectrometry. A total of 65 spots representing 11 proteins with significant abundance changes were detected. Apolipoprotein B-100, vitellogenin-1, vitellogenin-2-like, riboflavin-binding protein, and serotransferrin mainly participated in nutrient (lipid, riboflavin, and iron ion) transport, and vitellogenin-2-like showed a lower abundance after D14. Ovomucoid-like were involved in endopeptidase inhibitory activity and immunoglobulin binding and exhibited a higher expression after D18, suggesting a potential role in promoting the absorption of immunoglobulin and providing passive immune protection for goose embryos after D18. Furthermore, myosin-9 and actin (ACTB) were involved in the tight junction pathway, potentially contributing to barrier integrity. Serum albumin mainly participated in cytolysis and toxic substance binding. Therefore, the high expression of serum albumin, myosin-9, and ACTB throughout the incubation might protect the developing embryo. Apolipoprotein B-100, vitellogenin-1, vitellogenin-2-like, riboflavin-binding protein, and serotransferrin might play a crucial role in providing nutrition for embryonic development, and VTG-2-like was preferentially degraded/absorbed.

Synthesis of zeolite from biomass power plant ash for removal of Pb2+ from solution: Performance and mechanism

The demand for clean energy has led to the rapid expansion of biomass power plants, resulting in large quantities of biomass ash, which has exerted great pressure on the environment. In this study, biomass ash that collected from biomass direct-fired power plant was converted into NaX zeolite for effective removal of Pb2+ from water by alkali fusion hydrothermal method. The systematic characterization of the synthesized NaX zeolite shows that the Si and Al element in the biomass ash are gradually transformed from Si(1Al) and Si(0Al) to Si(4Al) under the action of NaOH to form zeolite skeleton. The specific surface area and pore volume of ZX-1.00 prepared at the alkali-ash ratio of 1.0 were 281.023 m2/g and 0.387 cm3/g, respectively, which showed the best adsorption performance for Pb2+. According to the fitting calculation of adsorption model, it shows that the adsorption process is a single-layer uniform chemical adsorption, with the adsorption capacity of Pb2+ reaching 463.59 mg/ g, and the adsorption is spontaneous and random. Meanwhile, it has good salt interference resistance and recycling performance. Experimental characterization and DFT calculations show that ion exchange, surface complexation and electrostatic adsorption dominate the adsorption process. The NaX zeolite synthesized from biomass ash is an environmentally friendly adsorbent material with promising applications in lead-containing wastewater treatment.
