Enhanced robotic path planning for complex curved surfaces repairing based on binocular vision 3d reconstruction point cloud

PurposeThis study aims to address wear, cracks and material degradation in critical components within aerospace, automotive and energy industries. It focuses on developing an efficient and precise trajectory planning method for repairing and reinforcing worn surfaces on complex curved parts, using three-dimensional point cloud reconstruction based on binocular vision ***/methodology/approachBinocular cameras capture damaged surface images, and precise three-dimensional point clouds of the failed surface are generated through stereo matching and three-dimensional reconstruction. A novel method creates reinforcement trajectories aligned with the point cloud, ensuring the deposition head's axis parallels the point cloud normal. This approach bypasses STereoLithography (STL) or non-uniform rational B-spline (NUrBS) surface generation, directly processing point cloud *** results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms traditional STL model-based approaches, achieving a 33% improvement in trajectory position accuracy and reducing planning time by approximately 30%. The method ensures precise positioning and orientation of the cladding head, facilitating continuous and uniform material deposition over complex curved surfaces. This results in high-quality cladding of damaged areas, significantly enhancing both work efficiency and repair ***/valueThis study introduces an innovative trajectory planning method that directly processes point cloud data for repairing complex curved surfaces, eliminating intermediate steps like STL or NUrBS surface generation. The approach enhances trajectory accuracy, planning efficiency and deposition head orientation control, ensuring superior repair quality. It provides a practical solution for extending the service life of critical components in high-stakes industries, advancing repair and reinforcement technologies.

The growing interest in rechargeable magnesium batteries (rMBs) stems from the demands for energy storage technologies with safety, sustainability, and high energy density. However, the ambiguous mechanism of the Mg metal anode during the electrochemical and manufacturing processes severely impedes the pursuit of superior performance. Those commonly overlooked bottlenecks in pure Mg or Mg alloy metal anodes should be emphasized and deserve more consideration. In this review, a brand-new perspective is emerging to reveal the opportunity for overcoming the long-standing obstacles hindering the development of rMBs. Herein, we comprehensively discuss the recent efforts to relieve the interfacial incompatibility between Mg metal anodes and electrolytes, including the pursuit of new electrolyte, interfacial modification, mechanism exploration, etc. Additionally, we put forth an unconventional research direction to promote the development of rMBs, namely exploring Mg metal anodes in terms of their electrochemical and mechanical properties. In closing, our proposals for addressing the key factors and intractable issues with Mg metal anode are brought forward.

The current SArS-CoV-2 variants strikingly evade all authorized monoclonal antibodies and threaten the efficacy of serum-neutralizing activity elicited by vaccination or prior infection, urging the need to develop antivirals against SArS-CoV-2 and related sarbecoviruses. Here, we identified both potent and broadly neutralizing antibodies from a five-dose vaccinated donor who exhibited cross-reactive serum-neutralizing activity against diverse coronaviruses. Through single B-cell sorting and sequencing followed by a tailor-made computational pipeline, we successfully selected 86 antibodies with potential cross-neutralizing ability from 684 antibody sequences. Among them, PW5-570 potently neutralized all SArS-CoV-2 variants that arose prior to Omicron BA.5, and the other three could broadly neutralize all current SArS-CoV-2 variants of concern, SArS-CoV and their related sarbecoviruses (Pangolin-Gd, raTG13, WIV-1, and SHC014). Cryo-EM analysis demonstrates that these antibodies have diverse neutralization mechanisms, such as disassembling spike trimers, or binding to rBM or Sd1 to affect ACE2 binding. In addition, prophylactic administration of these antibodies significantly protects nasal turbinate and lung infections against BA.1, XBB.1, and SArS-CoV viral challenge in golden Syrian hamsters, respectively. Importantly, post-exposure treatment with PW5-5 and PW5-535 also markedly protects against XBB.1 challenge in these models. This study reveals the potential utility of computational process to assist screening cross-reactive antibodies, as well as the potency of vaccine-induced broadly neutralizing antibodies against current SArS-CoV-2 variants and related sarbecoviruses, offering promising avenues for the development of broad therapeutic antibody drugs.

Sintering of supported metal nanoparticles (NPs) is a general and important phenomenon in materials and catalysis science. A consensus view is that it takes place either via the Ostwald ripening (Or) or particle migration and coalescence (PMC) mechanism through the substrate, but how sintering occurs under high gas pressure and high temperature has not been addressed. Here, we perform millisecond-scale environmental kinetic Monte Carlo (EKMC) simulations combined with density functional theory (dFT) calculations to reveal a unique through-space sintering mechanism, particle hopping and coalescence (PHC). Under high CO pressure and high temperature, the coalescence of Au NPs takes place through NP hopping up from the anatase TiO2(101) substrate and mass transfer via the gas phase. When the sintered floating NP reaches a critical size, it spontaneously redeposits onto the substrate. This process is driven by the preference of interfacial Au atoms of small NPs to interact with CO rather than the substrate at a high CO chemical potential. The PHC mechanism implies that NP sintering and intersubstrate catalyst transfer may occur easier than expected during reactions and provides a distinct perspective to understand catalyst thermal deactivation under harsh operando conditions.

Impact of Precipitation on Ocean responses during a Tropical Cyclone

Precipitation plays a crucial role in modulating upper-ocean salinity and the formation of the barrier layer, which affects the development of tropical cyclones (TCs). This study performed idealized simulations to investigate the influence of precipitation on the upper ocean. Precipitation acts to suppress the wind-induced sea surface reduction and generates an asymmetric warming response with a rightward bias. There is substantial vertical change with a cooling anomaly in the subsurface, which is about 3 times larger than the surface warming. The mean tropical cyclone heat potential is locally increased, but the net effect across the cyclone footprint is small. The impact of precipitation on the ocean tends to saturate for extreme precipitation, suggesting a nonlinear feedback. A prevailing driver of the model behavior is that the freshwater flux from precipitation strengthens the stratification and increases current shear in the upper ocean, trapping more kinetic energy in the surface layer and subsequently weakening near-inertial waves in the deep ocean. This study highlights the competing roles of TC precipitation and wind. Because the TC category is weaker than category 3, the warming anomaly is caused by reduced vertical mixing, whereas for stronger storms, the advection process is most important.

In the digital era, realising intelligent digital transformation is a major challenge in the manufacturing field. digital transformation means bringing more profit appreciation. To improve the analysis reliability of value-added processes, this study proposes a method for assessing enterprises value-adding activities. For this purpose, a hybrid model is constructed based on data and mathematics, bridged by a server. The research builds an element group model that identifies data from different sources, and also gives a mathematical model to describe the relationship of the supply, marketing and service. Taking an automobile manufacturing value chain as an example, to theoretically analyse the composition of value-added activities. Then, the assembly process of an automobile manufacturing plant was used as a value-added case study. The simulation results show the impact of changing production layout and product handling angle on the whole value chain. The study can provide new ideas for the intelligent digital transformation of the manufacturing industry.

Video Visual relation detection (VidVrd) focuses on understanding how entities interact over time and space in videos, a key step for gaining deeper insights into video scenes beyond basic visual tasks. Traditional methods for VidVrd, challenged by its complexity, typically split the task into two parts: one for identifying what relation categories are present and another for determining their temporal boundaries. This split overlooks the inherent connection between these elements. Addressing the need to recognize entity pairs' spatiotemporal interactions across a range of durations, we propose VrdONE, a streamlined yet efficacious one-stage model. VrdONE combines the features of subjects and objects, turning predicate detection into 1d instance segmentation on their combined representations. This setup allows for both relation category identification and binary mask generation in one go, eliminating the need for extra steps like proposal generation or post-processing. VrdONE facilitates the interaction of features across various frames, adeptly capturing both short-lived and enduring relations. Additionally, we introduce the Subject-Object Synergy (SOS) module, enhancing how subjects and objects perceive each other before combining. VrdONE achieves state-of-the-art performances on the VidOr benchmark and ImageNet-VidVrd, showcasing its superior capability in discerning relations across different temporal scales. dear Editor,The Zika virus(ZIKV)was first identified in Africa in 1947 but remained relatively obscure for nearly 70 ***,from 2014 to 2016,ZIKV was introduced into Brazil from the Pacific Islands,leading to its rapid dissemination throughout the Americas(Fauci and Morens,2016).This mosquito-borne virus is distinguished by its capacity to cause congenital defects,as evidenced by the microcephaly epidemic in Brazil,and has been declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern(Gulland,2016).Yuan et al.(2017)discovered that a specific mutation in the prM protein of American ZIKV strains increased infectivity in human and mouse neural progenitor *** reports of varying rates of microcephaly at different sites in Brazil,evidence from surveillance and observational studies indicates multifactorial etiologies beyond viral mutations(Barbeito-Andrés et al.,2018).

Line-of-sight (LoS) probability is of great significance for reliable air-to-ground (A2G) millimeter wave (mmWave) communication. In this paper, a machine learning (ML)-based LoS probability prediction method for A2G mmWave communication is proposed. A fully connected neural network optimized by Bayesian optimization is utilized to predict LoS probability accurately with the type of scene, ground distance and vertical height between unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ground receivers as the inputs. For the difficulty of measured data acquisition, massive channel data is generated by ray-tracing (rT) simulation under the virtual scenarios reconstructed by statistical building characteristics. Simulation results show that the proposed method is consistent well with the rT simulation and verified the good performance of LoS probability prediction in four virtual urban scenarios by comparison with other existing models. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
