rice(Oryza sativa)provides>20%of the consumed calories in the human ***,rice is also a leading source of dietary cadmium(Cd)that seriously threatens human *** the genetic network that underlies the grain-Cd accumulation will benefit the development of low-Cd rice and mitigate the effects of Cd accumulation in the rice *** this study,we identified a QTL gene,OsCS1,which is allelic to OsMTP11 and encodes a protein sequestering Cd in the leaf during vegetative growth and preventing Cd from being translocated to the grain after heading in ***1 is predominantly expressed in leaf vascular parenchyma cells,where it binds to a vacuole-sorting receptor protein OsVSr2 and is translocated intracellularly from the trans-Golgi network to pre-vacuolar compartments and then to the *** this trafficking process,OsCS1 actively transports Cd into the endomembrane system and sequesters it in the *** are natural variations in the promoter of OsCS1 between the indica and japonica rice *** of a G-box-like motif in the promoter region of the superior allele of OsCS1 from indica rice enhances the binding of the transcription factor OsIrO2 to the OsCS1 promoter,thereby promoting OsCS1 *** of this allele into commercial rice varieties could significantly lower grain-Cd levels compared to the inferior allele present in japonica ***,our findings offer new insights into the genetic control of leaf-to-grain Cd translocation and provide a novel gene and its superior allele for the genetic improvement of low-Cd variety in rice.

Theoretical computation of C-C coupling reactions by different C1 intermediates at Cun and Cun-1Ag clusters supported on TiO2

*CO dimerization is a well-known pathway for C-C bond formation, producing C2+ products. However, the mechanisms of C-C coupling between other C1 intermediates remain less explored. In this study, we investigate C-C bond formation involving *CO, *CHO, *COH, and other C1 intermediates on Cun and Cun-1Ag clusters supported on TiO2. Interestingly, our results reveal that the activation energy for *CO dimerization is not the lowest, indicating that it is not the dominant pathway for C-C bond formation. Coupling reactions involving *CHO, *COH, and other C1 intermediates exhibit lower activation energies. Furthermore, the activation energy for the same reaction varies across different Cun clusters, emphasizing the role of cluster selection in C-C coupling. Notably, on certain clusters, such as Cu8, the activation energy for C-C bond formation at the Ag site is lower than that at the Cu site, suggesting that Ag doping can enhance C-C coupling. However, in larger clusters like Cu13, the activation energy at the Ag site exceeds that at the Cu site, highlighting that the effect of Ag doping is cluster size dependent. This study provides new insights into C-C bond formation, offering guidance for designing efficient co-catalysts to produce high-value C2+ products.

The sequence-dependent morphology of self-assembly peptides after binding with organophosphorus nerve agent VX

VX is a highly toxic organophosphorus nerve agent that the Chemical Weapons Convention classifies as a Schedule 1. In our previous study, we developed a method for detecting organophosphorus compounds using peptide self-assembly. Nevertheless, the self-assembly mechanisms of peptides that bind organophosphorus and the roles of each peptide residue remain elusive, restricting the design and application of peptide materials. Here, we use a multi-scale computational combined with experimental approach to illustrate the self-assembly mechanism of peptide-bound VX and the roles played by residues in different peptide sequences. We calculated that the self-assembly of peptides was accelerated after adding VX, and the final size of assembled nanofibers was larger than the original one, aligning with experimental findings. The atomic scale details offered by our approach enabled us to clarify the connection between the peptide sequences and nanostructures formation, as well as the contribution of various residues in binding VX and assembly process. Our investigation revealed a tight correlation between the number of Tyrosine residues and morphology of the assembly. These results indicate a self-assembly mechanism of peptide and VX, which can be used to design functional peptides for binding and hydrolyzing other organophosphorus nerve agents for detoxification and biomedical applications.

Investigation of Ce/BEA as a passive NO_(x)adsorber:*** occurrences of cerium and adsorption behavior

Ce/BEA has great potential as a passive NO_(x)absorber(PNA)to reduce the NO_(x)emissions during the cold start phase especially in diesel engine for its high resistance to CO and suitable NO_(x)desorption temperature ***,as a novel material,its physical and chemical properties still remain *** this work,Ce/BEA was synthesized by ion-exchange method to identify the active species in NO_(x)adsorption,compared with aggregated Ce species in Ce/SiAlO_(x) prepared by impregnation method.X-ray diffraction(Xrd),high resolution-transmission electron microscopy(Hr-TEM)and aberration-corrected-scanning transmission electron microscopy(AC-STEM)were performed to confirm the isolated single atom formation of Ce species in Ce/***-vis diffraction reflection spectra(drS)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)were conducted to find the difference of chemical environment between the isolated Ce species and aggregated *** performance evaluation and temperature programmed reduction of hydrogen(H_(2)-TPr)results show the high NO_(x)storage capacity and active oxygen species quantity in Ce/*** is also found that the main NO_(x)adsorption species are Ce^(4+)-O^(∗)rather than Ce^(3+).NO_(x)-diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy(NO_(x)-drIFTS)confirms that the bidentate nitrite species are the critical NO_(x)adsorption intermediates and the conception of NO_(x)adsorption and desorption processes is proposed.

Pyrrolic nitrogen coordinated Ni^(2+) dual-atom catalyst for boosting CO_(2) electroreduction

Nitrogen-doped carbon materials have been widely used for the constructions of single-atom catalysts,while the effect of different species of doped nitrogen on the catalytic activity of CO_(2) electroreduction has rarely been *** we found that pyrrolic-N coordinated Ni2+catalysts display much higher electrocatalytic CO_(2)-to-CO activity and selectivity than the corresponding pyridinic-N coordinated low valent Ni^((0–+2))catalysts,and pyrrolic-N coordinated Ni2 dual-atoms catalyst of Ni2/N-CNTs exhibits the best electrocatalytic performance,with over 90%Faradaic efficiencies in a broad potentials from−0.6 to−1.2 V *** hydrogen electrode,as well as an outstanding CO specific current of 56.2 A/mgNi and high turnover frequency of 6.2×10^(4) h^(−1),over 7-times higher than those of pyridinic-N coordinated Ni *** results indicate the weak electron-donor nature of pyrrolic-N facilitates the generation of a reduced active site at low overpotential for boosting CO_(2) *** functional theory calculations reveal that the reaction free energy for the*COOH formation on pyrrolic-N coordinated Ni catalysts are lower than those on pyridinic-N coordinated Ni catalysts,and a H_(2)Oadsorbed Ni_(2)/N-CNTs displays the optimized reaction free energy for both*COOH formation and CO desorption,which derive the best catalytic performance.

From muscular to dexterous: A systematic review to understand the robotic taxonomy in construction and effectiveness

This work presents an investigation of robotic technologies' effectiveness in construction activities. Sixty-four highly relevant publications were identified from the database. By systematically reviewing the publications, the secondary data that are of interest to the review theme were retrieved and further evaluated. It is found that robotic technologies for automated construction is a growing field, where the taxonomy of robot was reflected in a diversified manner in the existing studies, ranging from the muscular guy-robotic manipulator-to the dexterous ones-unmanned aerial vehicle, autonomous mobile robot, automated guided vehicle, autonomous construction machinery and quadruped robot. In addition, the existing studies have provided substantial evidence to reveal the robotic technologies' effectiveness against traditional human methods in construction scenarios, and the measures for effectiveness consisted of productivity, precision, and success rate. With the evidence, it seems that the construction sector could benefit from robotic technologies to achieve intelligent workflows. Furthermore, based on the existing knowledge foundation in the current literature, a theoretical framework for future research direction is proposed. The framework envisages the integration of large models with construction robots to address operational inefficiencies, reduce costs, and simplify management.

Background Seroprevalence studies across various countries can contribute to achieving the elimination target for measles and ***,in the Mainland of China,the concept of herd immunity remains unclear due to the lack of a nationwide *** systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted by retrieving literature reporting the seroprevalence of measles and rubella published between 2012 and *** pooled positive rates and estimated geometric mean concentrations(GMCs)of measles and rubella immunoglobulin G antibodies were *** study analysed 135 studies on measles and 77 on rubella,including data from 368,023 and 177,422 healthy individuals,*** 2010 and 2022,the overall pooled positive rates for measles and rubella antibodies were 88.8%and 79.91%,*** age-specific susceptibility analysis showed that infants aged<1 year had the lowest pooled positive *** age groups had a roughly U-shaped distribution,with relatively higher positive rates and GMC of measles and rubella antibodies in young children and older age ***,the positive rates for both measles and rubella antibodies fell below the elimination threshold in almost all age groups other than young children aged 1–4 years,especially in recent *** addition,antibody positivity rates varied by geographical region and decreased with economic *** findings provide preliminary insights into herd immunity for measles and rubella,highlighting the challenges to achieving their elimination in China.

The variation of microbiological characteristics in surface waters during persistent precipitation

Climate change leads to an increase in both the frequency and intensity of extreme *** runoff generated by extreme precipitation has a significant impact on ***,the impact of persistent precipitation on surface water quality is easy to neglect,due to its prolonged duration and lower-intensity *** study established eight sampling points within selected surface waters to observe the variation of microbial characteristics in a typical persistence precipitation *** primary difference between Furong Lake(FL)and Chengqian reservoir(Cr)was:the concentrations of dissolved organic carbon(dOC)were 21.3±0.7 and 8.3±1.5 mg/L in FL and Cr,*** concentrations of r2A culturable bacteria and coliforms were 10^(4.57)and 10^(1.58)colony-forming units(CFU)/mL in FL,and were 10^(5.46)and 10^(2.64)CFU/mL in Cr,*** precipitation,the maximum increase concentrations of r2A,NA culturable bacteria,and coliforms were 10^(0.75),10^(1.30),and 10^(2.27)CFU/mL in FL,***,microbial concentration and rainfall did not increase simultaneously,and a delay phenomenon was observed in the increasing microbial *** analyzing the concentration change trends and correlation of various water quality indicators during persistent precipitation,the significant correlation between the dOC concentration and the changes in the dominant species of microbial community structure was found in this study(p<0.05).For example,as the dOC concentration declined,the abundance of hgcl_clade and CL500-29_marine_group ***,although persistent precipitation might not obviously alter the water quality visibly,it could still pose potential microbial risks.

The application of microbially induced carbonate precipitation(MICP)in clayey soils has attracted much attention,and many studies used clay as an additive to enhance microbial mineralization efficiency in sandy *** the sand-clay-bacteria-calcite system,the property and content of clay play crucial roles in affecting bacterial growth and calcite *** important,bentonite is particularly sensitive to changes in the geochemical *** this study,the sand-bentonite mixtures were treated by biostimulated MICP,aiming to provide insights into the behavior of this *** bacterial activity and cementation pattern at different bentonite contents were evaluated through a series of tests such as enrichment tests,unconfined compressive strength(UCS)tests,cementation content measurements,mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP)tests,scanning electron microscopy(SEM)observations,and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EdS)*** findings showed that the bentonite presence promoted the enrichment of indigenous ureolytic bacteria,with lower bentonite levels enhancing ureolytic *** and microscopic characterization indicated that the bentonite-coating sand structure was more conducive to the formation of large-sized calcite crystals capable of cementing soil particles compared to sand-supported and bentonite-supported ***,excessive calcium ions(Ca^(2+))concentrations in the cementitious solution would lead to predominant calcite deposition on soil particle surfaces,contributing minimally to strength improvement.
