Linear Model for Concentration Measurement of Mixed Gases

Electronic noses have been widely used in industrial production, food preservation, agricultural product storage, environmental monitoring, and other fields. However, due to the cross-sensitivity of gas-sensing responses, accurately measuring the concentration of mixed gases remains challenging. To address this issue, this study attempts to determine the number of state variables that produce the cross-influence based on the experimental data, establish the state space model from the equivalent circuit model, and obtain model parameters through parameter correlation iterative algorithms and a Kalman filter. The sensor response model and the concentration measurement model of mixed gases are established accordingly. The simulation and experimental results show that these two models have high accuracy in predicting the sensor response and measuring the concentrations of mixed gases under the influence of mixed gases on the sensors.

Study on Preparation and Performance of Aerated Concrete Using Spodumene Mining Residue as Silicious Material

In this research, the spodumene mining residue was used as siliceous material, completely replacing quartz sand, to prepare aerated concrete. The mechanical properties, pore structure, hydration characteristics of the aerated concrete, and the spodumene mining residue-cement paste interaction mechanism were studied by orthogonal experiment, X-ray diffraction, Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and mercury-injection test methods. The result showed that the water-cement ratio significantly affected the mechanical properties and dry density of the aerated concrete. The content of aluminum powder paste, spodumene mining residue, and water-cement ratio significantly affected the pore structure of aerated concrete. The pore size was mainly distributed in the range of less than 100 nm in hardened samples. The main hydration products of the aerated concrete containing spodumene mining residue were xonotlite, tobermolite, and C-S-H gel (or its derivatives). Spodumene mining residue had a small amount of active silicon and aluminum components, which could be motivated by an alkaline environment. In the simulation pore solution, the weak pozzolanic reaction was produced to generate C-S-H and its derivatives, which adhered to the surface of the spodumene mining-residue particle and filled in the interface between spodumene mining residue and cement paste, to improve the density of aerated concrete.

The multidomain protein cargo adaptor p62, also known as sequestosome 1, serves as a shuttling factor and adaptor for the degradation of substrates via the proteasome and autophagy pathways. Regarding its structure, p62 is composed of several functional domains, including the N-terminal Phox1 and Bem1p domains, a ZZ-type zinc finger domain, a LIM protein-binding domain that contains the tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) binding region, two nuclear localization signals (NLS 1/2), a nuclear export signal (NES), the LC3-interacting region (LIR), a Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (KEAP1)-interacting region, and a ubiquitin-associated (UBA) domain. Recent studies have highlighted the critical role of p62 in the development and progression of various malignancies. Overexpression and/or impaired degradation of p62 are linked to the initiation and progression of numerous cancers. While p62 is primarily localized in the cytosol and often considered a cytoplasmic protein, most of the existing literature focuses on its cytoplasmic functions, leaving its nuclear roles less explored. However, an increasing body of research has uncovered p62's involvement in the cellular response to DNA damage. In this review, we summarize the current understanding of p62's molecular functions in malignancies, with particular emphasis on its role in DNA damage repair, highlighting the latest advances in this field.

Isolated hydrometrocolpos and cloacal malformation: can we prenatally distinguish them?-A case report and literature review

Background Hydrometrocolpos (HMC) is a rare prenatal ultrasound abnormality, presenting in two distinct types: urinary-type and secretory-type. The urinary variation is intricately linked to cloacal malformation (CM), thereby posing a heightened risk of perinatal adverse events. Additionally, children affected by this type often face long-term challenges that impact their quality of life. Therefore, predicting the presence of CM in HMC fetuses is of great clinical significance. Case presentation We present a case involving hydrometrocolpos accompanied by oligohydramnios. Prenatally, the condition was strongly indicative of CM based on imaging manifestations and intrauterine procedures, a suspicion that was later confirmed through postnatal autopsy. Conclusion Due to the extremely low incidence of HMC, current literature primarily consists of case reports, and there are no studies that comprehensively analyze the prognosis of the disease. This research fills this gap by statistically analyzing the present case as well as 164 prenatal HMC cases reported in the previous literature. Gestational age (GA) at initial detection, the presence of fetal ascites, urinary tract dilatation, anorectal imaging abnormalities, and M & uuml;llerian anomalies are meaningful predictors of CM in HMC fetuses. Intrauterine procedures can be used to preserve organ function in complete lower urinary tract obstruction and oligohydramnios secondary to HMC. In addition, biochemical analysis of HMC fluid can differentiate between urinary-type HMC and secretory-type HMC. This study provides valuable insights into the prognostic factors and management strategies for HMC, which could guide clinical decision-making in prenatal care.

Experimental and simulation studies on gas-solid fluidized separation of biochar and catalytic carriers in fluidized bed biomass pyrolyzers

Fluidized bed reactors are the key core equipment for biomass catalytic fast pyrolysis to produce bio-oil, which usually adopts catalytic heat carrier particles to enhance the heat and mass transfer. However, it is difficult to realize the separation of biochar from carrier particles in the high-temperature and high-viscosity oil vapor atmosphere, which makes biochar unable to be utilized at a high-value. The gas-solid fluidization separator is proposed to efficiently separate and recover biochar and carrier particles. The pressure drop variation, flow field distribution, and separation performance of the separator were analyzed by CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulation combined with cold mold experiments. The results show that the binary particles separation efficiency reached 99 % under optimal operating conditions. Considering the high cost and time-consuming CFD simulation, a neural network that can be used to predict the correlation between the operating parameters of the separator and the mixing index M was constructed with a regression coefficient of 0.9819 for the data set. Based on the optimal operating conditions obtained, further pilot-scale pyrolysis separation experiments show that the binary particles separation efficiency under high temperatures can reach more than 90 %.

Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has emerged as a promising therapeutic tool for wound healing and tissue regeneration. However, the clinical application of CAP faces challenges, particularly the need for repeated treatments to maintain therapeutic efficacy and the difficulty in controlling the release of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS), which can cause tissue damage at high concentrations. In this study, we developed a controlled-release system by integrating CAP with a skin bionics gelatin scaffold (CAP-GS), enabling the sustained, localized release of CAP without the need for repeated applications. Our results demonstrate that CAP-GS significantly accelerates skin wound healing by modulating the immune microenvironment and reducing inflammation. The gelatin scaffold effectively regulates the release of ROS/RNS, maintaining levels conducive to M2 macrophage polarization and minimizing oxidative damage. Furthermore, CAP-GS enhances macrophage metabolism, including oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) and fatty acid oxidation (FAO), metabolic pathways characteristic of M2 polarization. The increased secretion of growth factors by CAP-GS-treated macrophages contributes to cell proliferation, migration, and tissue regeneration. These findings highlight CAP-GS as a promising, clinically applicable system for wound healing and tissue repair, overcoming the limitations of traditional CAP treatments and offering an approach to regenerative medicine.

Development and Application of a Comprehensive Non-targeted Screening Strategy for Fentanyl Analogues

The growing abuse of fentanyl and its analogues (FTNs) presents a substantial public health threat, prompting the introduction of regulatory controls by government authorities. Nevertheless, existing screening strategies for FTNs are primarily based on targeted or non-targeted approaches that utilize a limited set of mass spectrometry fragmentation data, which are far from meeting the needs of class scheduling. In this study, a comprehensive non-targeted screening strategy for FTNs was developed. Firstly, existing and potential unknown structures were obtained and a database was created by combining the substitution patterns and the characteristic fragmentation routes (CFRs). Following this, a preliminary screening was executed by matching entries from the database with empirical data to identify CFRs and suggest candidate structures. The likelihood of an analyte being an FTNs increased with the identification of multiple CFRs. After that, a final judgment was made based on the similarity of the isotope distribution of the candidate structures and the spectra obtained, along with the evaluation of chromatographic peak profile. This proposed strategy could achieve an extensive coverage of 1.25 x 1015. To facilitate the establishment and implementation of the strategy, a computer-aided program named FTNs_Finder was developed. To validate this method, false negative and false positive assessments were performed using the MS/MS data from 29 FTNs and 5180 datasets from MassBank. In addition, it was further applied to the presence screening of FTNs in environmental water samples. Overall, this work could effectively promote the class scheduling of FTNs and provide a reference for the design and implementation of screening strategies for other hazardous substances.

Decreased Hysteresis Benefited from Enhanced Lattice Oxygen and Promoted Band Alignment with Electron Transport Layer Modification in Perovskite Solar Cells

SnO2 electron transport layer (ETL) morphology plays a vital role in carrier transportation and the properties of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the uneven and pore surface would inevitably lead to high interface defects, high hysteresis, and poor performance. In this work, we use a molecular modifier 4-guanidinobenzoic acid methanesulfonate (GAMSA) to build a molecular bridge on the buried interface of SnO2/perovskite. XPS results demonstrate that the ratio of lattice oxygen (OL)/adsorbed oxygen (OV) increased from 1.35 to 2.34 after GAMSA modification, thus, Sn4+ and O vacancy defects in SnO2 were effectively reduced. Meanwhile, the conduction band minimum of the ETL enhanced from -4.33 eV to -4.07 eV, which obviously facilitated the electron transport. As a result, the optimal device exhibits an enhanced efficiency of 22.42%, which is much higher than that of the control one of 20.13%, with a greatly decreased hysteresis index from 14.35% to 3.27%. Notably, the optimized target device demonstrated excellent long-term stability, maintaining an initial efficiency of 87% after 2000 h storage in a N2 atmosphere in the dark at room temperature. This work paves a new method of ETL modification to improve lattice oxygen of SnO2 and restrain hysteresis for the enhanced performance of PSCs.

BackgroundWhile inactivity and sedentarism among adolescents are increasing globally, technology-based interventions incorporating wearable activity trackers (WATs) demonstrate the potential to combat the situation. With a focus on schools as critical environments in which to perform interventions among adolescents, this meta-analytic review of literature aimed to examine the effectiveness of wearable trackers in objectively measured physical activity (PA).MethodsA systematic search was conducted across six databases-PubMed, CENTRAL, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, the Web of science Core Collection, and PsycINFO-between January 2012 and March 2024. The language was restricted to English only. Both randomized controlled trials and quasi-experiment studies were included. Risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane RoB2 and ROBINS-I tools. Subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses were performed. Effect direction for a narrative synthesis was also conducted. GRADE criteria were applied to assess quality of *** studies were finally included in the literature review, and ten were adopted for meta-analysis. No statistical significance was found in intervention outcomes involving WATs' effect on PA, whether in terms of total daily steps, moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA), or calorie counts. However, the subgroup analysis revealed that one study using research-grade assessment showed a substantial positive effect on steps. Construction and validation of a novel liver function-tumor burden-inflammation-nutrition (LTIN) score for HCC patients underwent hepatectomy

Objective Liver function, tumor burden, inflammation level, and nutritional status are critical factors influencing tumor onset, progression, and metastasis. This study sought to investigate the prognostic significance and clinical relevance of biomarkers associated with these factors to develop a novel liver function-tumor burden-inflammation-nutrition (LTIN) score for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who received hepatectomy. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 285 patients with HCC undergoing hepatectomy at two medical centers between July 2019 and July 2023. The patients were divided into a training set (n = 200) and a validation set (n = 85). The study evaluated the prognostic significance of eight relevant clinical indicators and developed an LTIN score using Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression. Kaplan-Meier survival curves and multivariate Cox regression analysis were utilized to determine the prognostic value of the LTIN score. Time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses were used to compare the predictive performance of various prognostic factors. Results The LTIN score, derived from the albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) grade, tumor burden score (TBS), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), and prognostic inflammatory index (PII), effectively classified patients into high- and low-risk groups based on the optimal cut-off value. Patients with low-risk scores exhibited significantly better overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) than those with high-risk groups in both the training and validation sets (P < 0.001). Furthermore, the LTIN score was identified as a significant independent prognostic factor for both OS (P < 0.001) and RFS (P < 0.001). The LTIN score also exhibited superior prognostic capabilities compared to the other indicators, Tumor-Node-Metastasis (TNM) staging system, and Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging system.
