Improved heat and corrosion resistance of high electrical conductivity Al-Mg-Si alloys by multi-alloying of Ce, Sc and Y

In order to improve the corrosion and heat resistance of Al-Mg-Si alloy conductor materials, Ce, Sc, Y and Zr were added in Al-Mg-Si alloy to regulate the microstructure. The Al-Mg-Si-Ce-Sc-Y alloy was designed with excellent pitting and intergranular corrosion resistance by obtaining the micron-sized Fe-containing second phase with a lower potential difference to Al matrix, more dispersed grain boundary precipitates with a higher proportion of Si particles, narrower width of PFZ and ideal distribution of intergranular precipitates. The Al-Mg-Si-Ce-Sc-Y alloy also maintained higher hardness, strength and electrical conductivity after overaging and annealing and the corrosion/heat resistance mechanisms were proposed.

The high electrical conductivity Al-Ce-Sc-Y and Al-Mg-Si-Ce-Sc-Y alloys were used to study the effects of laser shock peening on their mechanical property, pitting and intergranular corrosion resistance. The strength and elongation of the alloys were improved simultaneously at the expense of very low electrical conductivity after laser shock peening due to the gradient structure and residual compressive stress. After two side laser shock peening, the strength and elongation of Al-Ce-Sc-Y and Al-Mg-Si-Ce-Sc-Y alloys increased to 231 +/- 3 MPa/16.2 +/- 0.2 % and 359 +/- 3 MPa/17.1 +/- 0.3 %, respectively. The samples with two surface states were used to study the corrosion behaviors. The number and depth of corrosion pits can be significantly reduced by laser shock peening and the crystallographic corrosion morphology exists in the corrosion pits. After two side laser shock peening with polished surface, the intergranular corrosion depth of Al-Mg-Si-Ce-Sc-Y alloy can reach the minimum and the intergranular corrosion cracks are much finer at the same depth. The Al-Ce-Sc-Y alloy had no tendency of intergranular corrosion, but the unpolished surface was prone to form the deep corrosion pits rather than occurred uniform corrosion. According to the microstructure analysis, the corrosion mechanism of pitting and intergranular corrosion was revealed.

Propofol infusion in anesthesia administration requires continual adjustment in the manual infusion system to regulate the hypnosis level. Hypnotic level is based on Bispectral Index Monitor (BIS) showing the cortical activity of the brain scaled between 0 to 1(X). The new challenging aspect of automation in anaesthesia is to estimate the concentration of hypnotic drugs in different compartments of the body including primary, rapid peripheral (muscle), slow peripheral (bones, fat) and effect site (brain) compartment based on Pharmacokinetics (PK) and Pharmacodynamics (PD) model. This paper aimed to regulate the hypnosis level with estimating the Propofol concentrations using a linear observer in feedback control strategy based on Integral Super-Twisting Sliding Mode Controller (ISTSMC). The drug concentration in plasma of the silico patients accurately estimated in nominal transient. The results show that tracking errors between the actual output in form of BIS level and linearized output nearly approaches to zero in the maintenance phase of anesthesia to ensure the controller response on sliding phase with optimum performances by achieving desired hypnotic level 50 on 1315. The robustness of control strategy is further ensured by adding measurement noise of electromagnetic environment of operation theatre distracting signal quality index of the output BIS level.

A neural network adaptive interval observer design for nonlinear systems

A design method of neural network adaptive interval observer for the continuous-time unknown nonlinear system is proposed. The bounds of unknown nonlinear functions are described by the state and the input, so that the bounds of the nonlinear function vector are unmeasurable. Therefore, this method can be used to observe systems with higher degree of nonlinearity and any priori knowledge about systems. In this work, the hyper basis function neural network (HBFNN) is presented to estimate the boundary (including lower and upper bounds) of the unknown nonlinear function vector. Furthermore, the non-negativity and stability of the error dynamic system are given, and the convergence and non-negativity are also guaranteed. Compared with the traditional interval observer, the efficiency of the proposed approach is verified through a numerical simulation example.

Instance co-segmentation aims to segment the co-occurrent instances among two *** task heavily relies on instance-related cues provided by co-peaks,which are generally estimated by exhaustively exploiting all paired candidates in point-to-point ***,such patterns could yield a high number of false-positive co-peaks,resulting in over-segmentation whenever there are mutual *** tackle with this issue,this paper proposes an instance co-segmentation method via tensor-based salient co-peak search(TSCPS-ICS).The proposed method explores high-order correlations via triple-to-triple matching among feature maps to find reliable co-peaks with the help of co-saliency *** proposed method is shown to capture more accurate intra-peaks and inter-peaks among feature maps,reducing the false-positive rate of co-peak *** having accurate co-peaks,one can efficiently infer responses of the targeted *** on four benchmark datasets validate the superior performance of the proposed method.

Multi-objective optimization of channel structure for a proton exchange membrane water electrolysis cell

The flow field dominates the process of mass transport and distribution inside the proton exchange membrane water electrolysis cell (PEMEC). Initially, a three-dimensional and non-isothermal PEMEC channel model was estimated to investigate the impact of channel height and width. Based on these results, a complete PEMEC model with a parallel flowfield pattern was developed, and the channel heights and widths of the model were optimized using a genetic algorithm (GA). Compared to the original model, the optimized model decreased the pressure drop by 34.97% at a lower voltage. In addition, because of the optimized flow-field pattern, the optimized model improves the current density on the proton exchange membrane as well as the gas holdup situation in a partial position in the cathode gas diffusion layer. Tensorlized Multi-Kernel Clustering via Consensus Tensor Decomposition

Multi-kernel clustering aims to learn a fused kernel from a set of base kernels. However, conventional multi-kernel clustering methods typically suffer from inherent limitations in exploiting the interrelations and complementarity between the kernels. The noises and redundant information from original base kernels also lead to contamination of the fused kernel. To address these issues, this paper presents a Tensorlized Multi-Kernel Clustering (TensorMKC) method. The proposed TensorMKC stacks kernel matrices into a kernel tensor along the kernel space. To attain consensus extraction while mitigating the impact of noise, we incorporate the tensor low-rank constraint into the process of learning base kernels. Subsequently, a tensor-based weighted fusion strategy is employed to integrate the refined base kernels, yielding an optimized fused kernel for clustering. The process of kernel learning is formulated as a joint minimization problem to seek the promising fusion solution. Through extensive comparative experiments with fifteen popular methods on ten benchmark datasets from various fields, the results demonstrate that TensorMKC exhibits superior performance.

Detection and localization for lake floating objects based on CA-faster R-CNN

As a general trend, unmanned ships have been gradually replacing humans and served as the cleaner of lakes. To work properly, those unmanned ships need to detect and localize lake floating objects that need to be collected. Compared to conventional image-based objects, lake floating objects are too small to detect. Meanwhile, because most conventional algorithms depend on bounding-boxes to detect the object, their results - it is hard to detect the accurate location of floating objects. To this end, this paper proposes a detection and localization algorithm based on CA-Faster R-CNN (Class Activation-Faster Regions with Convolutional Neural Network). Specifically, for an image with objects on it, the proposed algorithm detects and classifies objects with Faster R-CNN and localize objects with CA network. The experimental results show that, compared with the Faster R-CNN algorithm, this algorithm can reduce the positioning error without affecting the recognition accuracy, thereby can be used for the detection and localization of floating objects on the water surface. Compared with Faster R-CNN algorithm, the positioning accuracy of CA-Faster R-CNN algorithm is improved by 6.29 pixels. Also, the proposed algorithm remains a great potential for other objects that shared similar challenges with lake floating objects.

Our previous work revealed that unbalanced dietary intake was an important independent factor associated with constipation and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Growing evidence has shown the alterations in the gut microbiota and gut microbiota-derived metabolites in ASD. However, how the altered microbiota might affect the associations between unbalanced diets and GI symptoms in ASD remains unknown. We analyzed microbiome and metabolomics data in 90 ASD and 90 typically developing (TD) children based on 16S rRNA and untargeted metabolomics, together with dietary intake and GI symptoms assessment. We found that there existed 11 altered gut microbiota (FDR-corrected P-value <0.05) and 397 altered metabolites (P-value <0.05) in children with ASD compared with TD children. Among the 11 altered microbiota, the Turicibacter, Coprococcus 1, and Lachnospiraceae FCS020 group were positively correlated with constipation (FDR-corrected P-value <0.25). The Eggerthellaceae was positively correlated with total GI symptoms (FDR-corrected P-value <0.25). More importantly, three increased microbiota including Turicibacter, Coprococcus 1, and Eggerthellaceae positively modulated the associations of unbalanced dietary intake with constipation and total GI symptoms, and the decreased Clostridium sp. BR31 negatively modulated their associations in ASD children (P-value <0.05). Together, the altered microbiota strengthens the relationship between unbalanced dietary intake and GI symptoms. Among the altered metabolites, ten metabolites derived from microbiota (Turicibacter, Coprococcus 1, Eggerthellaceae, and Clostridium sp. BR31) were screened out, enriched in eight metabolic pathways, and were identified to correlate with constipation and total GI symptoms in ASD children (FDR-corrected P-value <0.25). Experimental investigation and simulations of the microstructure and actuation performance of PVC gels with varying plasticizers

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) gel actuator is an ideal actuator choice for soft robotics, wearable devices, and human-computer interaction because of its excellent performances under electrical stimulation, such as low driving voltage, large deformation, and asymmetric deformation. These excellent performances originate from the enrichment layer in PVC gel formed by the migration of plasticizers and charge transfer. The intermolecular interactions between plasticizers and PVC molecular chains are crucial in plasticizers migration, but the effect of these factors on actuator's performance is still unclear. In this study, the effects of types of plasticizes with varying molecular volumes on the actuation performance of PVC gel actuators were systematically investigated using experiments and simulations. The network structure of PVC gels typically consists of a primary network formed by physical entanglements and microcrystals and a secondary network constructed by intermolecular interactions between primary network and plasticizers, including hydrogen bonds and van der Waals forces. The experimental and simulation results indicate that intermolecular interactions significantly influence the migration rate of plasticizers within the PVC gel. The PVC gel actuators prepared with large-volume plasticizers containing a benzene ring structure exhibit the strongest intermolecular interactions. When subjected to an applied stimulus voltage of 800 V, the actuator made with benzene-ring-based plasticizers achieves a maximum displacement of only 23%, along with a relatively longer response time compared to the gel incorporating linear plasticizers. These results provide valuable insights into the relationship between the internal structure and actuation performance of PVC gels for their potential applications in robotic devices and medical assistive equipment.
