This European Standard describes a standard method for determining the PM215 mass concentration of suspended particulate matter in ambient air by sampling the particulate matter on filters and weighing them by means of a balance. Measurements are made over a sampling period of about 24 h, and in line with the Directive. are expressed as pg/m3, where the volume of air is the volume at ambient conditions near the inlet at the time of sampling. The range of application of the standard is from 1 pg/m3 (i.e. the limit of detection of the standard measurement method expressed as its uncertainty) up to 120 pg/m3 (i.e. the maximum concentration levelobserved during the field study undertaken by CEN/TC 264/WG 15 to validate the standard).NOTE Although the standard is not validated for concentrations over 120 pg/m3 its ranae of application could well beextended to commonly encountered ambient concentrations up to circa 200 pg/m3 when using glass or quartz fibre *** these high concentrations and particulate mass loadings no filter clogging is to be expected. Also the flow rate can beeasily maintained at the nominal *** equivalence procedure in Annex A specifies two approaches, depending on whether the candidatemethod differs slightly or fundamentally from the standard *** the former case, involving only slight differences from the standard method ("variations on a theme") AnnexA provides a restricted procedure to compare only the pertinent differences, instead of a full field test. This Qpart of the annex serves to give practical guidance for determining equivalence for measurement methodscommonly used in monitoring networks, and includes examples of common variations to the standard method,such as different filter storing or conditioning procedures and the variation of the standard method for theapplication as automated filter *** the latter case, involving a full set of field tests, the procedure serves to determine equivalence only withinthe rang

This European Standard specifies a method for sampling of Pb, Cd, As and Ni as part of the PM10 aerosol,microwave digestion of the samples and analysis by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry or byinductively coupled plasma (quadrupole) mass *** European Standard is applicable for the measurement of Pb, Cd, As and Ni as part of the PM10 aerosolfraction in the concentration ranges listed in Table 1. Table I -- Working ranges of the method in ng/m3The actual lower limits of the working ranges depend upon the variability of the laboratory filter blank (5.3.1). Thelower limits of the working ranges given in Table 1 are expected values based upon performance achieved in thefield validation tests. Similarly the upper limits of the working ranges have been set arbitrarily based upon themaximum daily values measured during the field validation tests. The method can be applied to higherconcentrations provided the PM10 collection characteristics of the sampler are not compromised.

This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of particulate lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As) and nickel (Ni) in ambient air that can be used in the framework of the European Council Directive on Ambient Air Quality Assessment and Management [1] and the 1 [2] and 4 [3] Daughter Directives. Performance requirements with which the method has to comply are specified in this European Standard. The performance characteristics of the method were determined in comparative field validation tests carried out at four European locations (see [4]). This European Standard specifies a method for sampling of Pb, Cd, As and Ni as part of the PM10 aerosol, microwave digestion of the samples and analysis by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry or by inductively coupled plasma (quadrupole) mass spectrometry. This European Standard is applicable for the measurement of Pb, Cd, As and Ni as part of the PM10 aerosol fraction in the concentration ranges listed in Table 1. Les exigences de performance auxquelles la méthode doit se conformer sont spécifiées dans la présente Norme européenne. Les caractéristiques de performance de la méthode ont été établies par des essais comparatifs de validation réalisés sur le terrain en quatre lieux distincts en *** présente Norme européenne spécifie une méthode de prélèvement du plomb, du cadmium, de l'arsenic et du nickel contenu dans la fraction MP10 de l'aérosol, de digestion par micro-ondes des échantillons et d'analyse par spectrométrie d'absorption atomique en four graphite ou par spectrométrie de masse (quadripolaire) couplée à un plasma *** présente Norme européenne est applicable à la mesure du plomb, du cadmium, de l'arsenic et du nickel, dans la fraction MP10 de l'aérosol dans les plages de concentrations indiquées dans le Tableau 1.

This European Standard specifies requirements and formats for the description of reference materials. It is applicable to reference materials of higher metrological order, classifiable as primary measurement standards and secondary measurement standards that function either as calibrators or control materials for reference measurement pro-cedures. This standard does not apply to reference materials that are parts of an in vitro diagnostic measuring system. This European Standard also provides instructions on how to collect basic data for value determination and how to present the assigned value. The standard also specifies the format for a certificate. This European Standard is not applicable to the production of the reference materials.
