Introduction Visible spaces of sex work are controversial and contested spaces. This paper explores the relationship between the legal framing of sex work and local policy and how this impacts upon the health and safety of sex workers who use those spaces. Methods This paper is based on data collected from a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Travel Fellowship in 2016. WCMT Travel Fellowships are granted to front-line practitioners to further develop their area of expertise and integrate best practice findings into the UK. The mission of the WCMT is "go to learn, return to inspire". Findings are based on observations and ethnographic methods during my travels, which included conducting semi-structured interviews with key informants, attending practitioners group discussions, participating in activist-led conferences and completing observations and journal notes. Using grounded theory data was organised into emerging themes. Results This paper focus on a key finding from the research;the systematic reduction of visible spaces of sex work across Europe. I use the examples and illustration from different cities across Europe to demonstrate how this affects service delivery to sex workers, and I explore some of the impacts on the lived realities of sex workers working in those spaces. Discussion Findings reveal increasing divisions between those who can work legally and those who cannot. This has resulted in the creation of sex work spaces that are outside of legality, research, health and social support provision.

The sub-Bergman spaces are de Branges-Rovnyak subspaces of Bergman space A2 defined by the contraction Tb or Tb*for an analytic symbol b. The fact that both Tb and Tb* are 2-hypercontractions on A2 leads to the introduction of a new type of sub-Bergman spaces, which will be called higher-order sub-Bergman spaces. We show these new spaces are different and yet connected in a nice way with the sub-Bergman spaces. The close relationship of these new spaces to the original de Branges-Rovnyak subspaces of the Hardy spaces is also explored. A similar study is conducted on weighted Bergman spaces A2 & alpha;where both Tb and Tb* are [& alpha;+2]-hypercontractions.& COPY;2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

In this work, we show the existence of a capacity solution for a nonlinear coupled parabolic-elliptic system in inhomogeneous anisotropic Orlicz-Sobolev spaces without assuming the 42-condition on the N-functions. This system describes the heat surge generated within a semiconductor device by an electrical direct current. This may be seen as a generalization of the so-called thermistor problem.(c) 2023 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V. This study explores the lived experiences on campus of five female undergraduate students of colour. Drawing on a critical race theory perspective and inspired by CRiT walking, walking interviews were conducted to give voice to the students' experiences of marginalisation, both metaphorical and physical. The findings reveal how whiteness impacts on participants' negotiation of university spaces;how the 'white gaze' influences their geographies;and how their experiences lead them to occupy counter-spaces within the university. Further, we found that participants' aspirations of postgraduate education were tainted by these negative experiences at the undergraduate level, leading them to reject altogether or begrudgingly continue their education. The study proposes theoretically framed walking interviews as a productive methodology in future critical studies of race in education and highlights the urgent need to address the marginalisation of female students of colour on campus as one means of addressing postgraduate recruitment imbalances.

Science and technology studies (STS) scholars have turned their attention to the materiality of objects and buildings in order to examine what they make users do in practice. Taking a close look at a therapeutic community in a psychiatric day care center for teenagers, this paper joins these discussions by exploring the materiality of "spaces of care" as part of the center's everyday practice. The analysis incorporates the concepts of scripts anddispositifsto describe the conditions of possibility in which caregivers and youths may position themselves in relation to others and to the space itself. This paper describes how spaces of care offer open, enticing, and variable conditions for fostering a dynamic of personal and relational responses as part of the care work. In this sense, the material environment entails potentialities in ways that are unpredictable but nonetheless consequential. Rather than arguing that material arrangements and thingsact, this paper draws attention to their impact via theirpotentialwithin dispositifs of care that request participants' attentiveness and responsiveness. Describing these potentialities brings out the subtler requirements of material environments in care practices that aim at circumventing the coercion of disciplinary spaces and their impersonal classifications.

While cable-driven snake robots are promising in exploring confined spaces, their hyper-redundancy makes the collision-free motion planning difficult. In this paper, by combining the prediction lookup and interpolation algorithms, we present a new path following method for cable-driven snake robots to high-efficiently slither into complex terrains along a desired path. In our method, we first discretize the desired path into points, and develop the prediction lookup algorithm to efficiently find the points matched with joints of the robot. According to geometric relations between the prediction lookup results and link length of the robot, we develop the interpolation algorithm to reduce the tracking errors caused by the discretization. Finally, simulations and experiments of inspections in two confined spaces including the obstacle array and pipe tank system are performed on our custom-built 25 degree of freedoms(DOFs) cable-driven snake robot. The results demonstrate that the presented method can successfully navigate our snake robot into confined spaces with high computational efficiency and good accuracy, which well verifies effectiveness of our development.

As an important gateway to Europe, the Port of Rotterdam is known for its high-quality facilities and efficiency, but also attracts organised crime groups who use the transatlantic legal trade flows to traffic cocaine. Based on a qualitative study, consisting of 73 interviews with public and private actors, an analysis of 10 criminal investigations and field visits to public and private organisations in the port, this article examines how organised crime groups involved in cocaine trafficking take advantage of or adapt to the socio-spatial relations in the Port of Rotterdam. First, we pay attention to which physical spaces in the port of Rotterdam provide opportunities for cocaine trafficking. Second, we examine how the occupational and legal environment in which people, private companies and law enforcement agencies in the port work and interact provide opportunities for cocaine trafficking. Our findings demonstrate that increased security measures by both public and private actors directed at physical spaces result in a displacement to new spaces in and around the port of Rotterdam. Furthermore, the current socio-spatial relations in the port of Rotterdam also make the role of people on the inside - referring to a whole range of public and private employees - increasingly indispensable.

In this work, the symmetric transmission is broken in the system with a linear half-space combined by a nonlinear one with a corrugated interface. The interaction between nonlinear materials and elastic waves can generate second harmonics, so the non-symmetric transmission is realized. With the corrugation effects, irregularly reflected and transmitted waves are generated for both fundamental and second harmonics during the incident SH mode across the corrugated interface. Based on the Fourier series expansion method for the interface, the solution with the first order approximation of reflection and transmission coefficients are derived and the effects of the interface corrugation are discussed. The non-symmetric transmission is proved by both theoretical analysis and experiments. It is found that the reflected and transmitted waves are different when the fundamental wave incidents from the opposite direction. Compared with the positive incidence, there is no second harmonic in the linear half-space for the negative case and the generation of second harmonics in the nonlinear half-space is weaker.
