As an extension of 2dspiht, 3d spiht inherits the properties of 2dspiht, and is suited very well large for volume data compression such as video, medical images, and multispectral images. But it still contains a great deal of redundant search, having not fully improved coding speed. In order to solve this problem, the authors of this paper successfully proposed a fast search algorithm, which can be applied to improve the 3d spiht coding algorithm, greatly reducing redundant search and improving coding speed. Experiments also show that the improved3d spiht is really faster than the original 3d spiht for image and video compression.

The motivation of compressing seismic data is to reduce enormous storage space and transmission bandwidth. In this paper, a parallel compression technique is presented for large seismic data compression based on graphics processing unit (GPU). We take advantage of combinations of GPU-based parallel processing and3d set partitioning in hierarchical tree (3d spiht) to accelerate the whole compression process. Experimental results show that our method achieve fast compression for very large seismic data (2.56GB) on standard PC hardware.

Cílem této diplomové práce je nastudovat současné možnosti využití vlnkové transformace při kompresi videosignálu. Část práce je věnována teorii potřebné k praktické realizaci úkolu. Zabývá se popisem videosignálu a jeho vlastností, vlnkovou transformací a metodami komprimace. druhá část práce je zaměřena na popis vybrané metody komprese. Jedná se o algoritmus spiht (Set Partitioning In Hierarchical Trees), určený pro kompresi statických obrazových dat. Algoritmus je modifikován na použití při kompresi videosignálu, který je charakteristický svou časovou redundancí. Protože algoritmus pracuje v prostorové i časové doméně, je nazýván 3d spiht. Algoritmus je implementován v programovém prostředí MATLAB, který poskytuje důmyslnou podporu vlnkové transformaci (Wavelet Toolbox). Pro účely snadného a intuitivního ovládání kodéru je vytvořena aplikace, která poskytuje grafické uživatelské prostředí. Uživatel má možnost měnit parametry kodéru a sledovat změny na zobrazovaných náhledech snímků a naměřených grafech. K dispozici jsou čtyři testovací sekvence snímků, které obsahují různé scény, s různými charakteristickými rysy. Závěr práce je věnován testování navrženého kódovacího schématu, pro různé testovací sekvence snímků a různé nastavené parametry kodéru. Naměřené hodnoty jsou graficky zobrazeny a vyhodnoceny.

This paper deals with the problem of multispectral image compression. In particular, we propose to substitute the built-in JPEG 2000 wavelet transform by an adequate multiresolution analysis that we devise within the Lifting-Scheme framework. We compare the proposed method to the classical wavelet transform within both multi-2d and full-3d compression strategies. The two strategies are combined with a PCA decorrelation stage to optimize their performance. For a consistent evaluation, we use a framework gathering four families of metrics including the largely used PSNR. Good results have been obtained showing the appropriateness of the proposed approach especially for images with large dimensions.
