Generating cancellable fingerprint templates based on delaunay triangle feature set construction

In this study, the authors propose a novel fingerprint template protection scheme that is developed using delaunay triangulation net constructed from the fingerprint minutiae. The authors propose two methods namely FS_INCIR and FS_AVGLO to construct a feature set from the delaunay triangles. The feature set computed is quantised and mapped to a 3d array to produce fixed length 1d bit string. This bit string is applied with a dFT to generate a complex vector. Finally, the complex vector is multiplied by user's key to generate a cancellable template. The proposed computation of feature set maintained a good balance between security and performance. These methods are tested on FVC 2002 and FVC 2004 databases and the experimental results show satisfactory performance. Further, the authors analysed the four requirements namely diversity, revocability, irreversibility and accuracy for protecting biometric templates. Thus, the feasibility of proposed scheme is depicted.

Raw EEG signal is dynamically collected from electrode channels distributing on the scalp surface and stored in computers as a 2d array of electrode channel (space) and time. In the past, most experiments were based on pure 2d EEG signal array of space and time. Shallow FBCSP ConvNet [5] is one of the successful models in handling 2d EEG signal array, which comes from FBCSP algorithm [4], a widely used algorithm in EEG decoding. With an original cropping strategy, Shallow FBCSP ConvNet reaches a high accuracy in EEG signal classification. In this paper, we propose a new cropping strategy to generate 3d EEG signal array of space, time and cropped piece. With redesigning the existing 2d Shallow FBCSP ConvNet model to become a 3d model, we obtained a good experimental result.

In this paper, we report clear experimental evidence proving that programmed cells in a 3d NANd Flash memory array may experience an unexpected average increase in their threshold voltage (VT) during high-temperature data retention. The phenomenon is explored as a function of the VT level of the monitored cells, the string back-pattern, and the data-retention temperature. A physical picture is then proposed to explain its origin, which is traced back to the depassivation of some traps in the polysilicon channel of the 3d NANd strings. Results point out a new reliability issue to address and tackle in the design of next generation 3d NANd Flash technologies.

This paper describes an approach to develop a procedure to reconstruct 3d volumes of breast cancer by using 2d ultrasonic (US) images in order to provide the shape and the dimensions of the cancer. We obtained 91.66% accuracy in the 3d reconstruction process. Breast and breast cancer phantoms were made in order to mimic acoustic properties (speed propagation). The US images of the phantoms were taken with commercial US equipment (Prosound 6, Aloka) by using a convex transducer probe (3-6 MHz and 82 degrees scanning angle), which was moved with a mechanical positioner with a resolution of 0.1 mm. While processing experimental data, it is important to have pictorial presentation of information. Currently, within the scope of the research programs carried out at the Institute for Roentgen Optics, several automated set-ups have been created and are now used to perform X-ray scanning experiments. At the development stage it became clear that presentation of experimental data in a pictorial and convenient to the researcher form, by means of 3d computer graphics algorithms, enables more precise evaluation of the results and, thus, correctly determination of the strategy for further research.

Ultrasound computer tomography is an imaging method capable of producing volume images with both high spatial and temporal resolution. The promising results of a 2d experimental setup of an ultrasound computer tomography system with at least 0.25 mm resolution encouraged us to build a new 3d demonstration system. It consists of three parts: a tank containing the sensor system, a data acquisition hardware and a computer workstation for image reconstruction and visualization. For the sensor system we developed and manufactured our own low-cost transducer array emitting or receiving ultrasound signals in three dimensions. To optimize the transducer geometry in respect to aperture angle and pressure amplitude the pressure field was simulated using the ultrasound simulation program Field II. Each transducer array system carries 8 emitting and 32 receiving elements with integrated amplifier and address electronics. 192 A-scans can be recorded in parallel by the data acquisition hardware. 48 multiplexing steps are needed to store all A-scans of the 1536 receiving transducers. After recording the data is transmitted to the computer workstation.

Origin of the Temperature dependence of Gate-Induced drain Leakage-Assisted Erase in Three-dimensional NANd Flash Memories

Through detailed experimental and modeling activities, this paper investigates the origin of the temperature dependence of the Erase operation in 3d nand flash arrays. First of all, experimental data collected down to the cryogenic regime on both charge-trap and floating-gate arrays are provided to demonstrate that the reduction in temperature makes cells harder to Erase irrespective of the nature of their storage layer. This evidence is then attributed to the weakening, with the decrease in temperature, of the gate-induced drain leakage (GIdL) current exploited to set the electrostatic potential of the body of the nand strings during Erase. Modeling results for the GIdL-assisted Erase operation, finally, allow not only to support this conclusion but also to directly correlate the change with temperature of the electrostatic potential of the string body with the change with temperature of the erased threshold-voltage of the memory cells.

Hydrogels play an important role in the design and fabrication of wearable sensors with outstanding flexibility, high sensitivity and versatility. Since hydrogels lose and absorb water during changes in humidity and temperature, it is critical and challenging to obtain hydrogels that function properly under different environmental conditions. Herein, a dual network hydrogel based on tannic acid (TA) reinforced polyacrylamide (PAM) and sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) was constructed, while the introduction of the green solvents Solketal and LiCl endowed the hydrogel with greater possibilities for further modification to improve the water content and consistency of the mechanical properties over 30 - 90 % RH. This composite hydrogel (PTSL) has long-term stability, excellent mechanical strength, and freezing resistance. As strain sensors, they are linear over the entire strain range (R 2 = 0.994) and have a high sensitivity (GF = 2.52 over 0 - 680 % strain range). Furthermore, the hydrogel's exceptional electrical conductivity and freezing resistance are a result of the synergistic effect of Solketal and LiCl, which intensifies the contact between the water molecules and the colloidal phase. This research could address the suitability of hydrogels over a wide range of humidity and temperature, suggesting great applications for smart flexible wearable electronics in harsh environmental conditions.

High-speed computation of 3d tensor product expansion by the power method

As a method to expand the 3d array by the 3d tensor products, the 3d outer product expansion is proposed and is used in the compression of image data and the design of 3d digital filters. The computational procedure is to apply nonlinear optimization iteratively to derive the expansion coefficients and the expansion vectors. Generally, the problems in nonlinear optimization have been that the process may not converge or a solution other than the optimal may be derived, depending on the given initial value, or the computational complexity and the computation time become tremendous when the size of the 3d array is enlarged. In order to handle these problems, the authors devised a method of calculating the 3d outer product expansion without applying nonlinear optimization, by using the power method, which is known as a numerical eigenvalue computation method. The validity of the method is verified against the calculation results. The computation time can be decreased by applying the proposed method. The calculation also reveals that the orthogonality among the expansion terms is lost in the calculation of the outer product expansion. Consequently, an expansion based on the mathematical definition of the 3d tensor product expansion that satisfies orthogonality is considered, and it is verified that the calculation can be performed in this expansion by 3d outer product expansion by the power method.
