IntroductionPars plana vitrectomy (PPV) is a primary strategy to restore vision for patients who have rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRd). Perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) is frequently used during PPV surgery. However, the unintended intraocular retention of PFCL may cause retina toxicity and thus lead to possible postoperative complications. In this paper, the experiences and surgical outcomes of a NGENUITY 3d visualization system-assisted PPV are shown to evaluate the possibility of excluding the application of *** consecutive series of 60 cases with RRd were presented, all of whom had undergone 23-gauge PPV with the assistance of a three-dimensional (3d) visualization system. Among them, 30 cases used PFCL to assist the drainage of subretinal fluid (SRF), while the other 30 cases did not. Parameters including retinal reattachment rate (RRR), best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), operation time, and SRF residual were compared between the two *** data showed no statistical significance between the two groups. At the last postoperative follow-up, the RRR of all the 60 cases reached 100% and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) gained significant improvement. The BCVA (logMAR) increased from 1.293 +/- 0.881 to 0.479 +/- 0.316 in the PFCL-excluded group, exhibiting better results than the PFCL included group, whose final BCVA was 0.650 +/- 0.371. More importantly, excluding PFCL greatly reduced the operation time (decrease of 20%), therefore, avoiding possible complications caused by both the use of PFCL and the operation *** the assistance of the 3d visualization system, it is feasible to treat RRd and perform PPV without using PFCL. The 3d visualization system is highly recommendable, as not only can it achieve the same surgical effect without the assistance of PFCL, but also simplify the operation procedure, shorten the operation time, save costs, and avoid complications related to PFCL.

●AIM:To determine the teaching effects of a real-time three dimensional(3d)visualization system in the operating room for early-stage phacoemulsification training.●METHOdS:A total of 10 ophthalmology residents of the first-year postgraduate were *** the residents were novices to cataract ***-time cataract surgical observations were performed using a custom-built 3d visualization *** training lasted 4wk(32h)in all.A modified International Council of Ophthalmology’s Ophthalmology Surgical Competency Assessment Rubric(ICO-OSCAR)containing 4 specific steps of cataract surgery was *** self-assessment(self)and expert-assessment(expert)were performed through the microsurgical attempts in the wet lab for each participant.●RESULTS:Compared with pre-training assessments(self 3.2±0.8,expert 2.5±0.6),the overall mean scores of posttraining(self 5.2±0.4,expert 4.7±0.6)were significantly improved after real-time observation training of 3d visualization system(P<0.05).Scores of 4 surgical items were significantly improved both self and expert assessment after training(P<0.05).●CONCLUSION:The 3d observation training provides novice ophthalmic residents with a better understanding of intraocular microsurgical *** is a useful tool to improve teaching efficiency of surgical education.

Updated chandelier illumination-assisted scleral buckling using 3d visualization system

Purpose: To assess the updated chandelier illumination-assisted scleral buckle procedures using a 3d visualization system. Subjects and methods: We report a single-center, retrospective, consecutive surgical case series of 18 eyes of 16 patients that underwent scleral buckle procedures combining the use of chandelier endoillumination, a noncontact wide-angle viewing system, an anti-drying contact lens, and a recently developed 3d visualization system. The mean age of the patients was 30.2 years, and the mean follow-up time was 11.3 months. Results: Retinal reattachment was achieved after the first surgery in all cases. There were no cases that required conversion of the 3d visualization to a conventional microscopic view. This updated chandelier-assisted scleral buckle procedure was successfully performed without any intraoperative or postoperative complications, except for the occurrence of postoperative diplopia in one case in which a supplementary radial buckle was used for a deep tear. Conclusion: The updated chandelier illumination-assisted scleral buckling surgery using a 3d visualization system appears to be a valuable and promising method for managing rhegmatogenous retinal detachment due to atrophic holes in lattice degeneration or ciliary tears in younger cases.

Hybrid wide-angle viewing-endoscopic vitrectomy using a 3d visualization system

Purpose: To introduce a hybrid wide-angle viewing-endoscopic vitrectomy, which we have reported, using a 3d visualization system developed recently. Subjects and methods: We report a single center, retrospective, consecutive surgical case series of 113 eyes that underwent 25 G vitrectomy (rhegmatogenous retinal detachment or proliferative vitreoretinopathy, 49 eyes;epiretinal membrane, 18 eyes;proliferative diabetic retinopathy, 17 eyes;vitreous opacity or vitreous hemorrhage, 11 eyes;macular hole, 11 eyes;vitreomacular traction syndrome, 4 eyes;and luxation of intraocular lens, 3 eyes). Results: This system was successfully used to perform hybrid vitrectomy in the difficult cases, such as proliferative vitreoretinopathy and proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Conclusion: Hybrid wide-angle viewing-endoscopic vitrectomy using a 3d visualization system appears to be a valuable and promising method for managing various types of vitreo-retinal disease.

The data file's format of 3d model generated by GoCAd is researched, and a 3d visualization system for GoCAd objects is developped based on VTK visualization graphics library and QT platform. It can load the pointset, curve, surface files exported from GoCAd model into true 3d render window, suplies tools for geologists to analise the geological model. It is more convinient to view and analise the geological model in true 3d compared with GoCAd.

Mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) are P2P networks, where mobile nodes communicate with each other using wireless links. As the communication is done by wireless links, and each node has a routing function, it is difficult to grasp the network topology and routing path. It becomes even more difficult when the number of nodes is increased. In previous research, we proposed MANET Viewer II. However, in MANET Viewer II, the problems were that a communication method was inefficient, and time synchronization among nodes was inaccurately. Furthermore, the visualization was only supported to 2 dimension (2d) visualization. In this paper, we propose a 3 dimension (3d) visualization system for MANETs with an efficient communication function, accurate time synchronization function, and 3d visualization function. The proposed system can mainly visualize the network topology, state of nodes, and packet flows in MANET using mobile PCs and wireless LAN cards. The multi-hop communication function needed for visualization of MANET was also implemented on the application layer. For visualization of network topology, we implemented two modes: GPS mode and manual mode. We verified by experiments that a log collection time was reduced, and an accurate time synchronization was realized compare with MANET Viewer II. Furthermore, we showed an efficiency of 3d visualization.

Extensive internal limiting membrane peeling for proliferative vitreoretinopathy

Purpose The aim of this study was to describe the anatomical outcomes of Brilliant Blue G (BBG)-assisted extensive internal limiting membrane peeling for proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) under three-dimensional (3d) visualization. Methods This study constitutes a retrospective case series conducted in a private retina practice, of 14 consecutive patients (14 eyes) with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment complicated by PVR who underwent pars plana vitrectomy between January 2019 and January 2020. The internal limiting membrane (ILM) was selectively stained with BBG, and perspectives were enhanced with a 3d visualization system. We peeled off the ILM beyond the vascular arcades up to the periphery. The main outcome was anatomical success, defined as persistent retinal reattachment after removal of the silicone oil tamponade. Results Anatomic success was achieved with a single surgery in 11 of 14 (78.6%) eyes, and eventual success was achieved in all eyes. The mean patient follow-up time was 12.3 months (range, 7-16 months). The mean preoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 2.93 +/- 0.79 logMAR which improved to 1.75 + 0.91 at the last follow-up. Conclusion Extensive ILM peeling allowed the creation of a cleavage plane underlying the PVR membranes that facilitated its complete removal, thereby achieving anatomically reattached retina and reducing the risk of recurrence of retinal detachment. The long-term effects of this technique need further research.

Cemented paste backfilling (CPB) has attracted worldwide attention because of its advantages in the processing of waste tailings and underground goafs. A problem of the underground CPB procedure that has received little attention is the shortage of devices or techniques for monitoring the real-time backfilling process accurately due to the harsh underground environment. Imprecise information of the backfilling progress will mislead the operators to make improper decisions, such as not pausing the transport system promptly or tuning the ratio of cement to tailings incorrectly. This study proposes a 3d visualization and soft-sensing system for the cemented paste backfilling process. By employing a GeoSLAM ZEB-HORIZON laser scanner to scan the 3d model of the underground goaf, the system estimates the backfilling height in real-time according to the accumulated volume of filled paste and simulates the backfilling of the underground goaf on web pages. In a real Copper Mine, we examined the developed system and soft-sensing technique in goafs and found that the relative error of estimated backfilling height is under 10%, which is acceptable in real production. The results indicate that the developed backfilling visualization and the soft-sensing techniques provide significant guidance for production management in underground backfilling.
