With the advancement of technology and the spread of multi-core systems, the need for parallelization arises and the interest in programming models is growing. At the same time, new distributed computing models have been proposed, being in fierce competition to obtain the highest possible performance. The Drop Computing Paradigm proposes the idea of decentralized computing over ad-hoc opportunistic networks of mobile and Edge devices. In this respect, the Drop Computing model does not only aim to achieve a minimum turnaround time but also to optimize other characteristics related to mobile devices, such as limited resources and opportunistic communication. Therefore, it is necessary to define a new programming model called DroMPI that intends to extend the capabilities of current parallel and distributed programming models, based on the Drop Computing paradigm. Therefore, the solution aims to develop a library that takes advantage of hardware capabilities in the interest of the Drop Computing paradigm and also provides programmers with a high-level programming interface. The library's features will be based on the Message Passing interface (MPI) standard, which will be responsible for inter-node parallelization. The name of the library, DroMPI, is an acronym for Drop Computing and MPI. The implementation of the model will be responsible for the management of communication between nodes and for providing an application programming interface (API) for the development of parallel applications in the Drop Computing paradigm.

Taking attendance in schools is an important daily activity which is directly related to students' academic performance. Traditional roll-call-based or signature-based approaches for attendance keeping are cumbersome, time consuming, and susceptible to manual errors and fraudulent maneuvers. With a view to digitalizing the process of taking and maintaining attendance record, in this paper, we present a distributed approach to attendance management using smartphones and cloud computing web services that offer high degree security and scalability. The main objective in developing the proposed attendance management system has been an implementation that does not rely on any dedicated infrastructure, and hence reduces cost as much as possible, enabling a wide range of organizations regardless of size and budgetary constraints to adopt such a system. It goes without saying that such cost reduction is inherently associated with some trade-offs which are also discussed in the paper.

Multimodal audiovisual speech recognition architecture using a three-feature multi-fusion method for noise-robust systems

Exposure to varied noisy environments impairs the recognition performance of artificial intelligence-based speech recognition technologies. Degraded-performance services can be utilized as limited systems that assure good performance in certain environments, but impair the general quality of speech recognition services. This study introduces an audiovisual speech recognition (AVSR) model robust to various noise settings, mimicking human dialogue recognition elements. The model converts word embeddings and log-Mel spectrograms into feature vectors for audio recognition. A dense spatial-temporal convolutional neural network model extracts features from log-Mel spectrograms, transformed for visual-based recognition. This approach exhibits improved aural and visual recognition capabilities. We assess the signal-to-noise ratio in nine synthesized noise environments, with the proposed model exhibiting lower average error rates. The error rate for the AVSR model using a three-feature multi-fusion method is 1.711%, compared to the general 3.939% rate. This model is applicable in noise-affected environments owing to its enhanced stability and recognition rate.

Developers often release different versions of their applications to support various platform/programming-language application programming interfaces (APIs). To migrate an application written using one API (source) to another API (target), a developer must know how the methods in the source API map to the methods in the target API. Given a typical platform or language exposes a large number of API methods, manually writing API mappings is prohibitively resource-intensive and may be error prone. Recently, researchers proposed to automate the mapping process by mining API mappings from existing code-bases. However, these approaches require as input a manually ported (or at least functionally similar) code across source and target APIs. To address the shortcoming, this paper proposes TMAP: Text Mining based approach to discover likely API mappings using the similarity in the textual description of the source and target API documents. To evaluate our approach, we used TMAP to discover API mappings for 15 classes across: 1) Java and C# API, and 2) Java ME and Android API. We compared the discovered mappings with state-of-the-art source code analysis based approaches: Rosetta and StaMiner. Our results indicate that TMAP on average found relevant mappings for 57% more methods compared to previous approaches. Furthermore, our results also indicate that TMAP on average found exact mappings for 6.5 more methods per class with a maximum of 21 additional exact mappings for a single class as compared to previous approaches.

Adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) offers a practical solution to reduce the computational cost and memory requirement of numerical simulations that use computational meshes. In this work, we introduce a novel smart methodology for adaptive mesh refinement. Smart adaptive refinement blends classical AMR with machine learning to address some of the known issues of the conventional approaches. We provide an algorithm for adaptive refinement. Subsequently, we introduce a modular object-oriented structure for our smart AMR algorithm. Then we present procedures used for the training of a smart AMR model. The study follows with a demonstration of preliminary numerical studies indicating the feasibility of performing adaptive mesh refinement on a few demonstrative problems selected from the CFD domain. Finally, we conclude with a few comments about future work.

The large graphs involving millions of vertices are common in many real life applications and are challenging to process. Now a day there are number of application like routing in telephone network, travelling Information System, Data Mining, Robotic System and its data is represented in a graph and different graph contains negative weight of edges or negative edge cycle and are inefficient to process by another single source shortest path algorithm(e.g. Dijkstra's, A*, etc.). Data of these applications are growing every day, but we still need fast and real time response from them. At present, the serial graph algorithms have reached the time limitation as they used to take a large amount of time. Bellman-ford algorithm is the best solution to solving single source shortest path problem and which is considered to be an optimization problem in the graph theory. This paper presents a high-performance implementation of the Bellman-Ford algorithm that exploits the architectural features of recent GPU architectures of NVIDIA to improve the performance and workload efficiency. Parallel Bellman-Ford optimizations to the implementation, which are oriented both algorithms and to the architecture. In this paper, we introduce new methods which achieve the parallelizing Bellman-Ford Algorithm and to implement some extended or new versions of this algorithm over NVIDIA GPU architecture using CUDA framework GPU provides an application programming interface to the NVIDIA architecture named as CUDA.

This study compares three selected navigation applications which are Google Maps, Waze and HERE WeGo, through the study of each application's application programming interface (API). The study is focusing on the aspect of Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) accuracy, in an attempt to determine which API are suitable to be integrated and implemented in the development of a shuttle bus application. To date, there are currently lacking studies that discuss or compare the implementation of API in the development of shuttle bus tracking and ETA application. This study focuses on finding which API is the best suitable for such development from an ETA perspective, using the navigation application where the APIs were implemented or based on as a tool of testing. An experiment was conducted in a city in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by collecting the ETA of the navigation applications from multiple points while riding a scheduled shuttle bus. The ETA will be compared with actual arrival time (ATA) using RMSE, MAE and PE metric. Comparison results showed Google Maps app provides the most consistent ETA prediction accuracy in a conservative manner and is the most suitable to be incorporated into a simple bus tracking and ETA app. The significant contribution of this study is to provide a result of comparison of the ETA accuracy through selected navigation applications and comparison of their navigation API.

In this paper, we present a programmatic approach to modeling 3-D geometry for simulation-driven design. With many existing approaches, realistic 3-D modeling takes place in a GUI-driven environment, and only parametric modifications are considered during design optimization. Rapid, automated iteration using conventional CAD systems is impractical for several reasons, and this has led to the proliferation of many specialized geometry modelers. Many of these specialized modelers are rather limited in capability, particularly when it comes to well-understood modeling operations. In contrast, scripting access to desktop-centric, GUI-based CAD systems has several drawbacks, ranging from lack of scalability to the absence of appropriate language constructs for robust programmatic procedural modeling. We present a modular Python API to a CAD kernel, which, rather than simply exposing the kernel's functions, organizes geometry modeling and query functions in a powerful and intuitive manner. This enables the creation of sophisticated geometry from scratch, as well as easy integration with existing CAD models from other sources. The use of a CAD kernel enables lightweight headless operation, fast execution, and sophisticated modeling. The use of a Python API permits the use of a wide range of scientific libraries and facilitates running on scalable computing infrastructure, such as HPC clusters. The Python API is also useful for the mathematical operations that may not be supported by the kernel, as well as for integration with upstream and downstream analyses that are increasingly being written in, or interfaced with, Python. Our implementation also provides surface design velocity computation, and is therefore suitable for use with gradient-based optimizers in conjunction with adjoint-based solvers. We have seen the emerging applications of deep neural networks for flow field predictions in the past few years. Most of the efforts rely on the increased complexity of the model itself or take advantage of novel network architectures, such as convolutional neural networks (CNN). However, reaching low prediction error cannot guarantee the quality of the predicted flow fields in terms of the perceived visual quality. This work introduces the multi-scale structural similarity (MS-SSIM) index method for flow field prediction. First, we train CNN models using the commonly used root mean squared error (RMSE) loss function as the reference. Then we introduce the SSIM loss function to capture the high-level features. Furthermore, we investigate the effects of the MS-SSIM weights on the predictive performance. Our results show that while the pixel-wise prediction error of RMSE-based models is as low as 1 .3141 x 10(-2), the perceived visual quality of the predicted flow fields, such as contour-line smoothness, is poorly represented. In contrast, the MS-SSIM models significantly improve the perceived visual quality with an SSIM loss value as low as 7.370 x 10(-3), although having a slightly higher prediction error of 1.3912 x 10(-2). These values are 41 .7% lower in the SSIM loss and 5.9% higher in the RMSE than the best RMSE model. In particular, we report that a weight combination of 0.3 and 0.7 for the MS-SSIM loss function provides the best predictive performance in our case. Our study has pointed out a possible future endeavor to invent a quality metric based on structural similarity, which should excel in flow-field-related approximations.

The current digital revolution has a strong impact on the people life and on the research process in most of the scientific areas. Geography and cartography have been invested by the innovation connected with GIS. Moreover, they reacted to the new opportunities given by the new web applications founded on the dynamic paradigm of Web 2.0. In the geographic framework the possibility to self-supply the online contents brought to the Volunteered Geographic Information phenomenon. This study presents a number of preliminary results of a project aimed at reformulating the theoretical framework of Photographic Tourism. The research focuses on the integration of social media and web mapping as an application of neogeography. The estimation (based on a sample) of the proportion of geotagged photos loaded on Flickr during 2016 and the analysis of the spatial distribution of the considered sample are the main objectives of the paper.
