An adjoint solver is implemented in the FUN3D stabilized finite-element flow solver. The adjoint solution is used to generate anisotropic, adapted meshes to control error in scalar output functionals, such as lift or drag coefficient. The inviscid and turbulent adjoints are verified with a finite-difference derivative approximation and can be used in design optimization in addition to mesh adaptation. The adjoint capability represents an extension of previous research using the FUN3D stabilized finite-element capability with metric-based mesh adaptation and interpolation-based error estimates to generate highly anisotropic adapted meshes for turbulent flows. In the present work, a metric-based approach is again utilized, where the adjoint and the primal solutions both contribute to the generation of a metric tensor field that is subsequently used to produce the required anisotropic mesh for each adaptation cycle. Adaptive results are then shown for an inviscid supersonic flow over a diamond airfoil, inviscid transonic flow over the ONERA M6 wing, and viscous laminar flow over the NACA 0012 airfoil, all using drag force as the output functional. Adjoint-based adaptation is compared with a multiscale solution-based approach that controls the L-p norm of Mach number interpolation error to demonstrate the effectiveness and e fficiency of the adjoint-based adaptive mesh technology.

The OpenFlow (OF) protocol is widely used in Software Defined Networking (SDN) to realize the communication between the controller and forwarding devices. OF allows great flexibility in managing traffic flows. However, OF alone is not enough to build more complex SDN services that require complete control and management of the data plane (e.g. configurations of ports, queues, etc.). The current work contributes to the SDN ecosystem with the implementation of a plugin for the OVSDB protocol, for an existing SDN controller (SDNC). OVSDB complements OF with management functionality such as configuration of devices, ports, queues, etc. An application programming interface (API) for dynamic configuration of QoS resources in the network devices is implemented herein, by using the capabilities of OVSDB. Further, the paper demonstrates the possibility to create network services with coarse granularity on top of the fine granular services exposed by the QoS configuration API at the SDNC. A series of tests emphasize the capabilities and the performance of the implemented QoS configuration API.

Though monolithic systems have tremendous advantages, it suffers from its own drawbacks like independency and debugging time. So the paradigm has shifted to build the applications with microservice architecture. The microservice is a part of the service-oriented architecture that decomposes themonolithic architecture into different services. All the divided services perform heterogeneous activity, and they are interfaced with proper application programming interface (API). Microservice is highly resilient;hence, when one service fails, it does not have an impact on other services. Traditional systems use monolithic architecture which fails in their design pattern and dependency. In this paper, to avoid duplicity in passport, a novel biometric-based monolithic architecture is developed for authentication system. All the physiological and behavioural biometrics of a person are stored in the repository and compared during the authentication phase. All these services are created as microservice and interfaced with proper APIs which improves parallel processing.

How does fake news spread? Understanding pathways of disinformation spread through APIs

What are the pathways for spreading disinformation on social media platforms? This article addresses this question by collecting, categorising, and situating an extensive body of research on how application programming interfaces (APIs) provided by social media platforms facilitate the spread of disinformation. We first examine the landscape of official social media APIs, then perform quantitative research on the open-source code repositories GitHub and GitLab to understand the usage patterns of these APIs. By inspecting the code repositories, we classify developers' usage of the APIs as official and unofficial, and further develop a four-stage framework characterising pathways for spreading disinformation on social media platforms. We further highlight how the stages in the framework were activated during the 2016 US Presidential Elections, before providing policy recommendations for issues relating to access to APIs, algorithmic content, advertisements, and suggest rapid response to coordinate campaigns, development of collaborative, and participatory approaches as well as government stewardship in the regulation of social media platforms.

Lithium-ion batteries are commonly used to power unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs). The ability to model and forecast the remaining useful life of these batteries enables UAV reliability assurance. Building accurate models for battery state of charge and state of health based on first principles is challenging due to the complex electrochemistry that governs battery operations and computational complexity required to solve them. Therefore, reduced order models are often used due to their ability to capture the overall battery discharge. Unfortunately, these simplifications lead to residual discrepancy between model predictions and observed data. In this paper, we present a hybrid modeling approach merging reduced-order models and neural networks. In this approach, while most of the input-output relationship is captured by Nernst and Butler-Volmer equations, data-driven kernels reduce the gap between predictions and observations. We validate our approach using data publicly available through the NASA Prognostics Center of Excellence repository. Results showed that our hybrid battery prognosis model can be successfully calibrated, even with a limited number of observations.

The large graphs involving millions of vertices are common in many real life applications and are challenging to process. Now a day there are number of application like routing in telephone network, travelling Information System, Data Mining, Robotic System and its data is represented in a graph and different graph contains negative weight of edges or negative edge cycle and are inefficient to process by another single source shortest path algorithm(e.g. Dijkstra's, A*, etc.). Data of these applications are growing every day, but we still need fast and real time response from them. At present, the serial graph algorithms have reached the time limitation as they used to take a large amount of time. Bellman-ford algorithm is the best solution to solving single source shortest path problem and which is considered to be an optimization problem in the graph theory. This paper presents a high-performance implementation of the Bellman-Ford algorithm that exploits the architectural features of recent GPU architectures of NVIDIA to improve the performance and workload efficiency. Parallel Bellman-Ford optimizations to the implementation, which are oriented both algorithms and to the architecture. In this paper, we introduce new methods which achieve the parallelizing Bellman-Ford Algorithm and to implement some extended or new versions of this algorithm over NVIDIA GPU architecture using CUDA framework GPU provides an application programming interface to the NVIDIA architecture named as CUDA.

In order to manage their activities in a centralized manner, an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software is a fundamental tool to many companies. As a generic software, many times it's necessary to add new functionalities to the ERP in order to improve and to adapt/suite it to the companies' processes. The Intelligent Fresh Food Fleet Router (i3FR) project aims to meet the needs expressed by several companies, namely the usefulness of a tool that makes "intelligent" management of the food distribution logistics. This "intelligence" presupposes interconnection capacity of various platforms (e.g., fleet management, GPS, and logistics), and active communication between them in order to optimize and enable integrated decisions. This paper presents a multi-layered architecture to integrate existing ERPs with a route optimization and a temperature data acquisition module. The optimization module is prepared to deal with dynamic scenarios, as new demands may appear during the optimization process and the routes will admit several states (e.g., open, locked and closed), according with the ERP manager instructions. The data aquisition module implements the retrieve of some vehicles parameters (e.g., chambers' temperatures and vehicle's global positioning system data), used to validate the routes and provide information to the company's manager. A distribution company was selected as case-study, having up to 5000 daily deliveries and a fleet of 120 vehicles. The integration of the developed modules with the company's ERP allowed the maintainance of most of the existing procedures, avoiding routines disruption.

Bluetooth is a high end wireless technology designed for short range communications with high means of integrity. The application of Bluetooth technology for remote monitoring and control is an evolving concept in automation. However, in these applications, the controller which is controlled via Bluetooth technology or the sensor which transmits the sensed values via Bluetooth technology is application-specific. On the other hand, more productivity can be achieved by making the module general purpose, such that it can be used for wide range of applications. In fact, the general purpose concept can be applied to a selected set of devices with standard data interfaces, by making the system general purpose to the developer rather than the end user. In this work, a general purpose controlling module is designed with the capability of controlling and sensing up to five devices simultaneously. The communication between the controlling module and the remote server is done using Bluetooth technology. The server can communicate with many such modules simultaneously. The module can handle both analog and digital devices provided with suitable interfaces designed by the developer. Furthermore, an application programming interface (API) is introduced to the developer for absorbing the benefits of the controller. A remote monitoring and controlling system was successfully developed using the proposed module and the system was deployed for an application of home automation with a selected set of electrical appliances.

Over the past decade, a wide range of ultrasoundbased diagnostic and therapeutic applications have been developed based on the emergence of user-friendly, open-ended ultrasound research systems. Nevertheless, previous platforms relied on static list-based scheduling, which limited the user from adjusting scan parameters in real-time. The objective of this study is to demonstrate an innovative ultrasound engine and application programming interface (API) equipped with a real-time dynamic hardware scheduler that allows for flexible and adaptive sequence design. An example of real-time dynamic sequencing has been designed and implemented, where the delay time for implementing changes in imaging depth and Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF) were compared between static and dynamic scheduling modes. The programming time improvements over traditional methods was 7576% for the changing the image depth and 4975% for changing the PRF.
