This study compares three selected navigation applications which are Google Maps, Waze and HERE WeGo, through the study of each application's application programming interface (API). The study is focusing on the aspect of Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) accuracy, in an attempt to determine which API are suitable to be integrated and implemented in the development of a shuttle bus application. To date, there are currently lacking studies that discuss or compare the implementation of API in the development of shuttle bus tracking and ETA application. This study focuses on finding which API is the best suitable for such development from an ETA perspective, using the navigation application where the APIs were implemented or based on as a tool of testing. An experiment was conducted in a city in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by collecting the ETA of the navigation applications from multiple points while riding a scheduled shuttle bus. The ETA will be compared with actual arrival time (ATA) using RMSE, MAE and PE metric. Comparison results showed Google Maps app provides the most consistent ETA prediction accuracy in a conservative manner and is the most suitable to be incorporated into a simple bus tracking and ETA app. The significant contribution of this study is to provide a result of comparison of the ETA accuracy through selected navigation applications and comparison of their navigation API.

Managing and limiting cluster resource usage is a critical task for computing clusters with a large number of users. By enforcing usage limits, cluster managers are able to ensure fair availability for all users, bill users accordingly, and prevent the abuse of cluster resources. As this is such a common problem, there are naturally many existing solutions. However, to allow for greater control over usage accounting and submission behavior in Slurm, we present a system composed of: a web API which exposes accounting data;Slurm plugins that communicate with a REST-like HTTP implementation of that API;and client tools that use it to report usage. Key advantages of our system include a customizable resource accounting formula based on job parameters, preemptive blocking of user jobs at submission time, project-level and user-level resource limits, and support for the development of other web and command-line clients that query the extensible web API. We deployed this system on Berkeley Research Computing's institutional cluster, Savio, allowing us to automatically collect and store accounting data, and thereby easily enforce our cluster usage policy.

The ARINC-653 standard architecture for flight software specifies an application executive (APEX) which provides an application programming interface and defines a hierarchical framework which provides health management for error detection and recovery. In every partition of the architecture, however, asynchronously concurrent processes or threads may include concurrency bugs such as unintended race conditions which are common and difficult to remove by testing. A race condition toward a shared data, or data race, is a pair of unsynchronized instructions that access a shared variable with at least one write access. Data races threaten the reliability of shared-memory programs seriously and latently, because they result in unintended nondeterministic executions of the programs. To heal data race during executions of ARINC-653 flight software, this paper instruments on-the-fly race detection into the target program and incorporates on-the-fly race healing into the health management of the ARINC-653 architecture. The race detection signals to the health monitor using the corresponding APEX call, if a data race is detected. The health monitor then responds by invoking an aperiodic, user-defined, error handling process that is assigned the highest possible priority. This special process uses an APEX call to identify and then heals the occurrence of race condition as an application error, one of seven error types defined by ARINC-653. This race-healing process allows the target programs to be assured at run-time that the execution result of the healed program could have been in the original program and therefore no new functional bug has been introduced. This paper evaluates efficiencies of the on-the-fly mechanisms to argue that they are practical to be configured under the ARINC-653 partitions.

Despite great advances in the area of Semantic Web, industry rather seldom adopts Semantic Web technologies and their storage and query approaches. Instead, relational databases (RDB) are often deployed to store business-critical data, which are accessed via REST interfaces. Yet, some enterprises would greatly benefit from Semantic Web related datasets which are usually represented with the Resource Description Framework (RDF). To bridge this technology gap, we propose a fully automatic approach that generates suitable RDB models with REST APIs to access them. In our evaluation, generated databases from different RDF datasets are examined and compared. Our findings show that the databases sufficiently reflect their counterparts while the API is able to reproduce rather simple SPARQL queries. Potentials for improvements are identified, for example, the reduction of data redundancies in generated databases.

We have seen the emerging applications of deep neural networks for flow field predictions in the past few years. Most of the efforts rely on the increased complexity of the model itself or take advantage of novel network architectures, such as convolutional neural networks (CNN). However, reaching low prediction error cannot guarantee the quality of the predicted flow fields in terms of the perceived visual quality. This work introduces the multi-scale structural similarity (MS-SSIM) index method for flow field prediction. First, we train CNN models using the commonly used root mean squared error (RMSE) loss function as the reference. Then we introduce the SSIM loss function to capture the high-level features. Furthermore, we investigate the effects of the MS-SSIM weights on the predictive performance. Our results show that while the pixel-wise prediction error of RMSE-based models is as low as 1 .3141 x 10(-2), the perceived visual quality of the predicted flow fields, such as contour-line smoothness, is poorly represented. In contrast, the MS-SSIM models significantly improve the perceived visual quality with an SSIM loss value as low as 7.370 x 10(-3), although having a slightly higher prediction error of 1.3912 x 10(-2). These values are 41 .7% lower in the SSIM loss and 5.9% higher in the RMSE than the best RMSE model. In particular, we report that a weight combination of 0.3 and 0.7 for the MS-SSIM loss function provides the best predictive performance in our case. Our study has pointed out a possible future endeavor to invent a quality metric based on structural similarity, which should excel in flow-field-related approximations.

Mental health disorders are prevalent in our society today as they affect one in four people all over the world, according to the World Health Organization. This necessitates a proactive method of mental health assessment. Clinical assessments and paper-and-pen reporting are usually done through retrospective reports, which are subject to memory bias. With the advancement in technology and smartphones becoming an inherent and integral part of day-to-day life, ambulatory assessment of mental health and well-being would be greatly improved. In this study, we analyze different methods of mental health assessment, their respective benefits and drawbacks, and from which we propose a pipeline based on Experience Sampling Methodology (ESM). The pipeline is composed of a web application for therapists and a mobile application for patients. The therapist creates ESM-based assessments to their patients using the web application that communicates with the mobile application through an application programming interface. This pipeline aims to overcome retrospective biases in assessing the patient's mental health and well-being by using more reliable behavioural patterns from the data. Sophisticated data encryption may be utilized to ensure patient-therapist confidentiality. The same system is also designed to be used by psychologists to send ESM-based surveys to their intended participants and perform statistical analysis from the respondents' data, allowing improved data security for the respondents. With this capability, generation of data would be faster and safer, and more research can be done to improve and accelerate analysis and diagnosis of mental health and well-being.

Wildland fire simulation is a useful tool for studying wildland fires and for developing new technologies to help wildland fire management. This paper presents an effort of developing wildland fire simulation as a service that is accessible to broader users. The developed simulation service supports fire spread simulation, fire suppression simulation, and prescribed fire simulation with dynamic ignitions, and is accessible through a graphic user interface and an application programming interface (API). We present the underlying DEVS-FIRE simulation model, the design of the cloud-based wildland fire simulation service, and some preliminary results.

The aim of this manuscript is to develop a web crawler, Content Management System (CMS), and application programming interface (API) for a news aggregator system dubbed Noox project. News aggregator system requires a crawler to populate its content;however, different website may have a different page layout. This projects aims to create a back end for Noox and open source and scalable web crawler that is capable to extract data from different page layout. The scope of this project includes the web crawler, CMS, API, scheduler for web crawler, and implementation of socket server. The development process utilizes PHP as the primary back-end language with Laravel as the web application framework The PHP back-end hosts the CMS and the API. The API itself will implement Representational State Transfer (REST) as its architectural design. JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) is used as means of the API to communicate with the clients. The API also implements JSON Web Token (JWT) for client authentication purpose. Python programming language is used to develop the web crawler. The web crawler utilizes BeautifulSoup as the web extraction utility. The web crawler can be adapted to extract data from different page layout by utilizing user created configuration file. It can also be configured to export the extracted data into a JSON file or database system. The result of this project satisfies the requirement of the Noox project.

In this paper, we introduce NUBOMEDIA, an open source elastic cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS) specifically designed for real-time interactive multimedia and WebRTC services. NUBOMEDIA exposes its capabilities through simple application programming interfaces (APIs), making possible to deploy and execute developers' applications. To that aim, NUBOMEDIA combines the simplicity and ease of development of API services with the flexibility of PaaS infrastructures. Once an application is implemented, developers just need to deploy it on top of NUBOMEDIA providing elasticity as a service and reliable communication.
