We propose a new algorithm for digital image watermarkingbased on the characteristics of vector quantization (VQ) in thispaper. In contrast with the conventional watermark embeddingalgorithms to embed only one watermark at a time into originalsource, we present an algorithm to embed multiple watermarksfor copyright protection. The embedding and extractionprocesses are efficient for implementing with the conventionalVQ techniques. After embedding, the embedder would outputone watermarked reconstruction image and secret keysassociated with the embedded watermarks. These secret keysare then registered to the third party to preserve the ownershipof the original source in order to prevent the attackers frominserting counterfeit watermarks. Simulation results show thatif there are some intentional attacks, all the watermarks couldsurvive to protect the copyrights. Therefore, we are able toclaim the robustness, usefulness. and ease of implementationof our algorithm.
