Balanced parallel triangle enumeration with an adaptive algorithm

Triangle enumeration is a foundation brick for solving harder graph problems related to social networks, the Internet and transportation, to name a few applications. This problem is well studied in the theory literature, but remains an open problem with big data. In this paper, we defend the idea of solving triangle enumeration with SQL queries evaluating the steps of a new adaptive algorithm with linear speedup. Such SQL approach provides scalability beyond RAM limits, automatic parallel processing and more importantly: linear speedup as more machines are added. We present theory results and experimental validation showing our solution works well with large graphs analyzed on a parallel cluster with many machines, producing a balanced workload even with highly skewed degree vertices. We consider two types of distributed systems: (1) a parallel DBMS that evaluates SQL queries, and (2) a parallel HPC cluster calling the MPI library (called via Python). Extensive benchmark experiments with large graphs show our SQL solution offers many advantages over MPI and competing graph analytic systems.

An adaptive algorithm for Steklov eigenvalues of the Lamé operator in linear elasticity

The Steklov eigenvalues of the Lam & eacute;operator arise from the analysis of surface waves and vibration modes in a linearly elastic structure. In this paper, based on the Lagrange conforming finite element method, we propose and analyze an a posteriori error indicator of the residual type for the Steklov eigenvalue problem of the Lam & eacute;operator in linear elasticity. The a posteriori error indicator is computed locally from the approximate eigenpair. We prove the reliability and the efficiency of the error indicator for eigenfunctions as well as the reliability of the error indicator for eigenvalues. Finally, we present numerical experiments to validate our theoretical analysis.

A High-Order p-adaptive algorithm for Large-Eddy Simulation Based on a Discontinuous Galerkin Method

The aim of this paper is to present and analyse a static p-adaptation algorithm based on a modal high-order discontinuous Galerkin method. To this end, we first define appropriate error estimation strategies that provide information on the necessary time-independent local resolution quality. Two error indicators are employed, the Small-Scale Energy Density (SSED) indicator proposed in Naddei (2019) and the novel Small-Scale Lifted (SSL) indicator developed in this work. Based on the SSED estimator, three different strategies are considered to extend these indicators to perform static p-adaptive simulations of unsteady flow problems. The first approach consists in applying the SSED estimator to the time-averaged solution (SSED-A). The second and third approaches consist in evaluating the temporal $ L<^>2 $ L2 and $ L<^>\infty $ L infinity-norms of the indicator computed from the instantaneous solution, called respectively $ L<^>2 $ L2-SSED and $ L<^>\infty $ L infinity-SSED. These strategies are compared by performing simulations of the periodic laminar flow past a cylinder at $ {\rm Re}=100 $ Re=100 and Mach = 0.1, and of the turbulent flow over periodic hills at $ {\rm Re}=2\,800 $ Re=2800. The outcome from these computations shows that the best performance is achieved when the $ L<^>\infty $ L infinity-SSED indicator is used. Finally, the developed adaptation algorithm is applied to the LES of the transitional flow past a NACA0012 airfoil at $ {\rm Re}=50\,000 $ Re=50000 and $ \alpha =5<^>\circ $ alpha=5 degrees using the $ L<^>\infty $ L infinity-SSED and the $ L<^>\infty $ L infinity-SSL indicators. It is shown that the use of the SSL indicator provides improved results as compared to the SSED indicator. The results presented in this paper demonstrate that the use of p-adaption improves the quality of under-resolved turbulent flow simulations for a similar computational cost as compared to p-uniform simulations.

Cognitive training with adaptive algorithm improves cognitive ability in older people with MCI

Recent discoveries indicating that the brain retains its ability to adapt and change throughout life have sparked interest in cognitive training (CT) as a possible means to postpone the development of dementia. Despite this, most research has focused on confirming the efficacy of training outcomes, with few studies examining the correlation between performance and results across various stages of training. In particular, the relationship between initial performance and the extent of improvement, the rate of learning, and the asymptotic performance level throughout the learning curve remains ambiguous. In this study, older adults underwent ten days of selective attention training using an adaptive algorithm, which enabled a detailed analysis of the learning curve's progression. Cognitive abilities were assessed before and after CT using the Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). The findings indicated that: (1) Initial performance is positively correlated with Learning amount and asymptotic performance level, and negatively correlated with learning speed;(2) Age is negatively correlated with learning speed, while it is positively correlated with the other three parameters. (3) Higher pre-training MMSE scores predicted higher post-training MMSE scores but less improvement;(4) Higher pre-training MoCA scores predicted higher post-training MoCA scores and less improvement;(5) The parameters of the learning curve did not correlate with performance on the MMSE or MoCA. These results indicate that: (1)Selective attention training using adaptive algorithms is an effective tool for cognitive intervention;(2) Older individuals with poor baseline cognitive abilities require more diversified cognitive training;(3) The study supports the compensation hypothesis.

The a posteriori error estimates and an adaptive algorithm of the FEM for transmission eigenvalues for anisotropic media

The transmission eigenvalue problem arising from the inverse scattering theory is of great importance in the theory of qualitative methods and in the practical applications. In this paper, we study the FEM for the transmission eigenvalue problem for anisotropic inhomogeneous media in omega subset of sigma l �� (�� = 2, 3). Using the T-coercivity and the spectral approximation theory, we derive an a posteriori estimator of residual type and prove its effectiveness and reliability for eigenfunctions. In addition, we also prove the reliability of the estimator for transmission eigenvalues. The numerical experiments indicate our method is efficient and can reach the optimal order ��-2 ��/�� by using piecewise polynomials of degree �� for real and complex eigenvalues.

A new grey mapping function and its adaptive algorithm for low-light image enhancement

When taking images in low light conditions, images often suffer from low visibility. In addition to affecting the sensory quality of images, this poor quality may also significantly limit the performance of various computer vision systems. Many grey-level mapping enhancement algorithms based on classic mapping functions, such as the gamma mapping function, have been proposed in recent years to improve the visual quality of low-light images. However, the classic mapping function cannot coordinate the greyscale distribution of the bright and dark areas of the image well and may easily lead to excessive enhancement. This makes it difficult for the performance of these improved algorithms to be fully utilized. Therefore, this paper proposes a new multiparameter grey mapping method. Unlike the classic mapping function, the new mapping method is based on the enhancement strategy of compressing the bright area and then adjusting the dark area. Thus, the inherent shortcomings of the classic mapping function are fundamentally overcome. The new mapping method can not only directly control the compression of the grey space in the bright area of the image through parameters, but it can also adjust the greyscale distribution of dark areas without changing the greyscale value of the pixels in the bright area. Finally, this paper also designs an adaptive enhancement algorithm with the new mapping method as the core to verify its effectiveness and flexibility. Experimental results showed that the adaptive algorithm had excellent performance in colour rendering, brightness enhancement and noise suppression. It was also obviously better than the current similar algorithms in visual quality and quantitative tests.

The application of modern information technology enables business intelligence to efficiently collect and manage both structured and unstructured data. adaptive algorithms are designed to identify changes in data patterns by monitoring and analysing business data in real time. They are capable of dynamically adjusting data analysis processes and strategies based on these changes, thus ensuring the most up-to-date and relevant results. This dynamic adjustment not only enhances the efficiency of data processing, but also guarantees that the results of the analysis are consistently pertinent to the prevailing business environment. The proposed model is based on machine learning technology, which is used to continuously optimise the performance of the analysis algorithm through an iterative training and feedback mechanism. This allows the algorithm to become more adaptable in a variety of business scenarios. The results of the experimental analysis demonstrate that, in comparison with traditional business intelligence methods, the adaptive method exhibits a notable enhancement in prediction accuracy and decision support quality. © 2024 IEEE.

In the polar-field high-power power supply system of a tokamak fusion device, key electrical signals such as voltage and current are inevitably affected by electromagnetic noise. To improve the control performance of the polar-field power supply system and reduce the number of triggering times of the protection mechanism, the electrical signals must be filtered after sampling to improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the signals. In this study, a controlled step size LMS (Least Mean Square) algorithm based on the hyperbolic tangent function (tanh) was proposed, which adjusts the weight vector by constructing the affiliation function of the step size factor to balance the relationship between the convergence speed and the steady state error. In this study, taking control of the output signal of high power supply as the target, the simulation model was constructed to verify the algorithm's convergence speed and steady-state performance, and then experimental tests were carried out to verify the algorithm's feasibility. Moreover, the algorithm's delay is controlled at the nanosecond level, which gives the algorithm good real-time performance. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper studies various tracking algorithms based on the characteristics of visual tracking system. According to the characteristics of cutting robot, tangential tracking and normal approximation are studied. An adaptive correction algorithm for motion trajectory of precision cutting manipulator is presented. The algorithm compares it with the PSR fraction to achieve the target tracking algorithm. The translation filter and proportional filter are modified. The device collects image information from CCD equipped with suitable lighting equipment and lens, uses image processing board to preprocess, binarize, compresses and encodes the image information, and then recognizes and interprets it by computer. And by a servo motor and drive to complete a 1:1 linear tracking, experiments show that the image tracking software of the cutting robot designed in this paper can reach the latest discriminative correlation filter tracking method, and it has better adaptability. Experimental results show that this method can achieve target tracking well. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper studies how to construct the conversion unit effectively in the process of binary conversion in English translation. A hardware-based cross-language conversion module construction method based on ATUC is proposed and monitored in real time. The corresponding decoding is carried out, and the corresponding mathematical model is established. According to the characteristics of software operation, dynamic adaptive adjustment of each conversion component is carried out to improve the success rate of compilation operation and maximize the efficiency of compilation operation. A hardware-based persistent commit address cache is proposed to help binary converter monitor program performance. The validity of the proposed method is verified by SPEC2000 simulation. In the translation program, the software translation part is generally completed by the conversion module, because the conversion module is the basis of the entire program, so the performance of the conversion module directly affects the speed and efficiency of the entire software. This paper proposes a hardware-based approach for building cross-language translation modules. In binary stream translation, persistent commit address cache is used to reduce network transmission and improve translation performance. The experimental results show that the proposed method has good performance. © 2024 IEEE.
