In recent decades, a growing number of large-scale RFID systems are used in various applications. In such a system, it is not uncommon that multiple concurrent radio communications among RFID readers and tags cause serious inference (called collision in the RFID field). One important kind of method to achieve collision-free communication is to activate RFID readers in different time slots. Existing activation approaches for solving this problem are mainly centralized, which is impractical due to the lack of central server, one-point failure risk, and performance bottleneck. Some distributed algorithms are proposed recently, but failed to consider the adaptiveness of the identification, where all of the RFID readers need to participate in the coordination control even if they do not have communication requirements any more. As a result, the optimal identification performance cannot be achieved. In this paper, we propose an adaptive distributed reader activation approach called ADRA for large-scale RFID systems. We build a fine-grained conflict graph for different kinds of collisions. And then a shared permission based distributed approach is adopted to eliminate those collisions. We guarantee that the RFID readers that do not need to communicate any more are suspended and excluded from the execution of coordination eventually. Extensive simulation results show that our approach outperforms existing approaches in terms of execution time and message overhead.

In the context of smart grid, is desired a safe and correct functionality of the relay protection, by rapid fault isolation and ensure continuous supply of electricity to consumers. Implementing smarter protection as adaptive protection is one way of tackling some of the performance issues. The variable nature of the fault resistance in certain situations influence the distance protection, even if the distance protection, through polygon feature, allows sufficient arc reserve. To ensure proper functionality of the distance protection of double circuit lines, in the case of two phase faults with high resistance fault, the paper proposes an impedance correction algorithm, in order to compensate the influence of the reactance effect. Considering the measured currents and voltages from the local distance protection, the deviation vector is calculated and used for changing the position of the fault impedance in the R-X plane. As a result, the fast tripping command is initiated for faults with high resistance in the zone 1 or blocked for faults in the zone 2.

There arc more and more studies on centralized protection, but the effective protection scheme dealing with the information-missing of entire substation is scarce. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a wide area protection online adaptive algorithm. When the information of entire substation is missing and inter-station line fails, the algorithm will automatically collect current information of all adjacent substation inter station lines at other side. By comparing one current phase with the phase of all other current phasor sum respectively and sorting the difference value, the fault can be located according to the rank. The algorithm uses the current phase comparison principle, which can locate the fault quickly and accurately, the principle is simple and less information is needed. Finally PSCAD simulation is used to verify the feasibility of the algorithm.

Images pertaining to any application area can embrace all the information that is visualized by Human Visual System (HVS). In order to perceive this complete information and to extract better features from the image, various image enhancement techniques have been developed. In multi-spectral satellite imagery, the images captured by the payload comprise of wide range of wavelengths, known as bands. This paper proposes a unique 'adaptive Band Specific Image Enhancement Scheme based on Segmented Satellite Images' which operates on all the bands that are defined for satellite imagery. They cover a wide range of applications ranging from search & rescue images, environmental & landscape studying to hyper-spectral cosmic imagery etc. The proposed image enhancement technique facilitates better observation of satellite images by selecting and enhancing the particular region of image. It also provides the flexibility to operate the algorithm on particular bands in order to obtain maximum information from them.

For decades researchers have studied the duality of hashing and sorting for the implementation of the relational operators, especially for efficient aggregation. Depending on the underlying hardware and software architecture, the specifically implemented algorithms, and the data sets used in the experiments, different authors came to different conclusions about which is the better approach. In this paper we argue that in terms of cache efficiency, the two paradigms are actually the same. We support our claim by showing that the complexity of hashing is the same as the complexity of sorting in the external memory model. Furthermore we make the similarity of the two approaches obvious by designing an algorithmic framework that allows to switch seamlessly between hashing and sorting during execution. The fact that we mix hashing and sorting routines in the same algorithmic framework allows us to leverage the advantages of both approaches and makes their similarity obvious. On a more practical note, we also show how to achieve very low constant factors by tuning both the hashing and the sorting routines to modern hardware. Since we observe a complementary dependency of the constant factors of the two routines to the locality of the input, we exploit our framework to switch to the faster routine where appropriate. The result is a novel relational aggregation algorithm that is cache-efficient-independently and without prior knowledge of input skew and output cardinality-, highly parallelizable on modern multi-core systems, and operating at a speed close to the memory bandwidth, thus outperforming the state-of-the-art by up to 3.7x.

In this paper, we propose a method for online controller adjustment by a fictitious reference iterative tuning (FRIT) of a frequency domain using sliding discrete Fourier transform (DFT). We have extended the FRIT to correspond time delay and characteristic variation of a control object. A sliding DFT was used to correspond to the time delay of the controlled object. In addition, we have optimized the method using a recursive least-squares algorithm to determine the controller gains online. In this study, we utilized an algorithm that was designed in a two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) control system. We have experimentally verified the effectiveness of the proposed method. The proposed method can correspond to the time delay of a controlled object. In addition, it can also correspond to characteristic variations of a control object.

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is an effective way to reduce noise signals that are present along with desired signals needed for signal processing. The noise can occur due to many reasons and at any point of signal processing including signal generation stage, the processing stage or the detection and storage stage. Passive techniques were used traditionally but as they were inefficient at low frequency ranges, they were replaced by active noise cancelling techniques. ANC requires adaptive algorithms to attain an optimized performance. The ANC system also requires very little space and is cost efficient. Since the 1980s, as DSP chips grew in applications a number of adaptive algorithms have been developed. Different algorithms can be used for different applications. Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm, Recursive Least Square (RLS) algorithm and Filtered-x-LMS (FXLMS) algorithm are some of the developed adaptive algorithms. In this paper, a new enhanced adaptive algorithm for feedback ANC systems has been developed. Simulations taking MATLAB as a platform has been carried out to show that the proposed algorithm gives a better performance than the conventional feed-forward FXLMS algorithm.

This paper presents an efficient decimal matrix code (DMC) technique to obtain the maximum error detection capability. This model can minimize the area overhead of extra circuits using encoder reusing technique (ERT). To maintain the reliability of memories against transient multiple cell upsets decimal matrix code based on divide-symbol is presented. Also the DMC mechanism is suitable for dynamic NOCs where the number and position of processor elements or faulty blocks vary during runtime. Here we present a NOC based on online error detection mechanism and adaptive routing algorithm. NoC is based on routers performing online error detection of routing algorithm and data packet errors. adaptive routing algorithm allows to bypass faulty components or processor elements dynamically implemented inside the network. The new router architecture is based on additional diagonal state indications and specific logic blocks allowing the reliable operation of the NoC. The main originality in the NoC is that only the permanently faulty parts of the routers are disconnected. Therefore, it maintains a high run time throughput in the NoC without data packet due to self-loopback mechanism inside each router.

Acoustic echo arises when an audio signal is radiated in the real environment, resulting in the signal plus its attenuated, time delayed images. With time delay as the constraint, the prominence of the echo over communication channels is determined. Modern times have seen extensive research over the removal nonlinear echoes caused by portable communication systems and low cost audio equipment. Volterra filters employing adaptive algorithms have traditionally been a very important tool for nonlinear acoustic echo cancellation. This article presents a technical survey of the adaptive algorithms used in the design of a nonlinear equalizer modeled using a second order Volterra series expansion. In the initial sections, the problem of nonlinear echo cancellation is defined and a mathematical analysis of the Volterra series expansion is given. In further sections, a truncated version of the Volterra series which is called the second order Volterra filter is discussed. Finally, a detailed analysis has been carried out to determine the adaptive algorithm that is best in the business to solve the problem of nonlinear acoustic echo cancellation.

adaptive mesh-refining algorithms dominate the numerical simulations in computational sciences and engineering, because they promise optimal convergence rates in an overwhelming numerical evidence. The mathematical foundation of optimal convergence rates has recently been completed [3] and shall be discussed in this talk. We aim at a simultaneous axiomatic presentation of the proof of optimal convergence rates for adaptive finite elements [10, 4, 2, 5] as well as boundary elements [7, 8] in the spirit of [10]. For this purpose, an overall set of four axioms on the error estimator is sufficient and (partially even) necessary.
