A band-independent variable step size proportionate normalized subband adaptive filter algorithm

Proportionate-type normalized subband adaptive filter (PNSAF-type) algorithms are very attractive choices for echo cancellation. To further obtain both fast convergence rate and low steady-state error, in this paper, a variable step size (VSS) version of the presented improved PNSAF (IPNSAF) algorithm is proposed by minimizing the square of the noise-free a posterior subband error signals. A noniterative shrinkage method is used to recover the noise-free a priori subband error signals from the noisy subband error signals. Significantly, the proposed VSS strategy can be applied to any other PNSAF-type algorithm, since it is independent of the proportionate principles. Simulation results in the context of acoustic echo cancellation have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method. (C) 2016 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.

A novel 2D-ABC adaptive filter algorithm: A comparative study

Recently, two dimensional (2D) adaptive filter, which can self-adjust the filter coefficients by using an optimization algorithm driven by an error function, has attracted much attention by researchers and practitioners, because 2D adaptive filtering can be employed in many image processing applications, such as image denoising, enhancement and deconvolution. In this paper, a novel 2D artificial bee colony (2DABC) adaptive filter algorithm was firstly proposed and to the best of our knowledge, there is no study describing 2D adaptive filter algorithm based on metaheuristic algorithms in the literature. At the first stage, in order to analyze the performance and computational efficiency of the novel 2D-ABC adaptive filter algorithm, it was used in the 2D adaptive noise cancellation (ANC) as recommend in literature. For a fair comparison, the competitor 2D adaptive filter algorithms were applied to the same 2D-ANC setup under same condition, such as same Gaussian noise, same filter order or same test images. The results of the novel 2D-ABC adaptive filter algorithm were compared with those of the 2D affine projection algorithms (APA), 2D normalized least mean square (NLMS) and 2D least mean square (LMS) adaptive filter algorithms. At the second stage, to demonstrate the robustness of the novel 2D-ABC adaptive filter algorithm, it was implemented for speckle noise filtering on noisy clinical ultrasound images. The results show that the novel 2D-ABC adaptive filter algorithm has a better performance than the other classical adaptive filter algorithms and its denoising efficiency is quite well on noisy images with different characteristics. The hybrid active noise control (ANC) system consists of the combination of feedforward and feedback type ANCs. The filtered-X LMS algorithm is used to adapt the controllers. The averaging method is applied to the hybrid ANC system with the frequency domain expression to derive a stationary point of the adaptive algorithm. Then, it is found that though the adaptive filters of both ANCs axe operating simultaneously, the stationary point of each adaptive filter is same with that for the case where each ANC system is operating separately. Then the local convergence condition is derived. Finally, the convergence condition is explicitly examined for a simple case and its validity is shown by some simulations.

The information of INS vertical channel is key to control small UAV (Unmanned Air Vehicle).This paper studies the integration of INS/Baro-altimeter based on Kalman filter algorithm to improve the calculation accuracy and stability of INS vertical *** proposed Kalman filter is constructed by INS and baro-altimeter error model and is simple to *** adaptive factor is used to further improve stability of the *** proposed algorithm is compared with vertical channel damping loop using data from simulation and experimental *** results show that the values calculated by the proposed algorithm are more accurate and stable,and the filter parameters are easier to set.

The authors propose a new robust adaptive FIR filter algorithm for system identification applications based on a statistical approach named the M estimation. The proposed robust least mean square algorithm differs from the conventional one by the insertion of a suitably chosen nonlinear transformation of the prediction residuals. The effect of nonlinearity is to assign less weight to a small portion of large residuals so that the impulsive noise in the desired filter response will not greatly influence the final parameter estimates. The convergence of the parameter estimates is established theoretically using the ordinary differential equation approach. The feasibility of the approach is demonstrated with simulations.

Applying a variable convergence factor technique,we derive an adaptive filter based on Davidon-Fletcher-Powell (DFP) algorithm and present update recursion of the inverse autocorrelation matrix *** MATLAB 7.0,DFP algorithm is implemented in parameter identification and short-term traffic flow *** results obtained demonstrate that divergence may exist in application to parameter identification because of inappropriate parameters' selection for LMS and RLS algorithm that must predefine parameters ***,DFP algorithm can always guarantee its stability and convergence *** to short term traffic flow prediction show that DFP algorithm is well capable of reflecting change tendency and regularity of traffic flow series and is characteristic of higher prediction accuracy.

Performance comparison of adaptive digital predistortion algorithms using adaptation time for mobile WiMAX power amplifier applications

In this paper, we propose that adaptation time be considered a parameter for evaluating the performance of digital filter algorithms in adaptive digital predistorted high-power amplifiers. An adaptive predistorted high-power amplifier with an average power of 37.5 dBm was designed and fabricated for mobile worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) test signals. For performance comparisons using adaptation time, several effective algorithms (such as the least-mean-squares (LMS), recursive-least-squares (RLS), and affine projection (AP) algorithms) were implemented. According to the experimental results, the RLS and AP algorithms achieved a similar linearity improvement of 11 dBr. However, the AP algorithm had the advantage of a faster adaptation time than the other algorithms.

For a vehicular hands-free communication system, the sound quality of communication is usually degraded by noise which is known to be detrimental to system performance. In this paper, a novel adaptive filtering algorithm and an integrated system for acoustic echo and noise cancellation are presented. The proposed system includes adaptive noise cancellation, line enhancer, and echo cancellation which are based on a variable step-size affine-projection algorithm (VSS APA). The proposed VSS APA filtering algorithm is a combination of a variable step-size least-mean-square (VSS LMS) and an affine-projection algorithm (APA). The matrix of the APA allows more accurate, thorough input data and transforms the data into the structure of orthogonality, thus making the estimate of the weight vector faster and more accurate. To understand and verify the effectiveness of the proposed system, performance evaluation and comparison were conducted to compare the proposed algorithm and various traditional adaptive filtering algorithms in this application. The results demonstrated that the VSS APA has an effective performance and convergence in sound quality improvement of hands-free communication systems.

Two-Dimensional CS adaptive FIR Wiener filtering algorithm for the Denoising of Satellite Images

In the recent years, researchers are quite much attracted in designing two-dimensional (2-D) adaptive finite-impulse response (FIR) filters driven by an optimization algorithm to self-adjust the filter coefficients, with applications in different domains of research. For signal processing applications, FIR Wiener filters are commonly used for noisy signal restorations by computing the statistical estimates of the unknown signal. In this paper, a novel 2D-Cuckoo search adaptive Wiener filtering algorithm (2D-CSAWF) is proposed for the denoising of satellite images contaminated with Gaussian noise. Till date, study based on 2-D adaptive Wiener filtering driven by metaheuristic algorithms was not found in the literature to the best of our knowledge. Comparisons are made with the most studied and recent 2-D adaptive noise filtering algorithms, so as to analyze the performance and computational efficiency of the proposed algorithm. We have also included comparisons with recent adaptive metaheuristic algorithms used for satellite image denoising to ensure a fair comparison. All the algorithms are tested on the same satellite image dataset, for denoising images corrupted with three different Gaussian noise variance levels. The experimental results reveal that the proposed novel 2D-CSAWF algorithm outperforms others both quantitatively and qualitatively. Investigations were also carried out to examine the stability and computational efficiency of the proposed algorithm in denoising satellite images.

Huge penetration of grid-tied wind generators into the existing electricity networks increased various challenges in modern power grids. Tremendous attempts are accomplished to properly enhance the behavior of the wind generation systems. This article exhibits a new self-tuned control approach for enhancing the performance of a permanent-magnet synchronous generator-based wind turbine, which is interlinked to the electricity network. The self-tuned technique relies on an improved multiband-structured subband adaptive filter (IMSAF) algorithm, which achieves less computational intricacy over the least-mean-square approach. The IMSAF algorithm-based self-tuned proportional-integral (PI) controller is employed to adjust the interface voltage source converters through a cascaded control structure. The IMSAF algorithm updates the multiple PI controllers & x2019;gains on-line without the necessity to optimize or fine-tune. To achieve realistic responses, practical wind speed data measured in Zaafarana wind farm, Egypt, are implemented in this study. The efficacy of self-tuned control approach is compared with that realized using an optimized PI control approach by the water cycle and the genetic algorithms, considering symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults, as the network disturbances. The validity of self-tuned control approach is widely confirmed by performing simulation analyses using MATLAB/Simulink software, and satisfactory responses are achieved. Notably, the IMSAF-based self-tuned control approach is realized to be an accurate means for improving the characteristic of grid-tied wind generators.
