In the presence of narrowband interference, non-Wiener effects have been observed for the normalized least-mean-square (NLMS) algorithm and the affine projection algorithm (APA). The convergence performance of the affine projection algorithm (APA) is analyzed in the presence of strong narrowband interference. Firstly, the relationship between the APA and the NLMS algorithm is derived, with the help of decorrelation of the input signal. Then, the statistical properties of the decorrelated input signals are derived, from which we can see that the convergence performance of the APA is almost not affected by the strong narrowband interference. The computer simulation results support the theoretical analysis.

The conventional affine projection algorithm with a fixed regularization parameter confronts the tradeoff between fast convergence and low steady-state misalignment.A combined regularization parameter affine projection algorithm(CRP-APA) is presented to address this *** proposed algorithm adaptively combines two different regularization parameters by employing a mixing parameter that is derived by minimizing the energy of the priori *** the sake of a better tracking capability,the mixing factor is conducted by using a modified sigmoidal activation ***,the mathematical analyses including the steady-state behavior and computational complexity are also performed.A series of simulations for system identification and echo cancellation scenarios demonstrate the significant merits of the proposed CRP-APA and support the theoretical analysis.

The computational complexity of the blind adaptive multiuser detection algorithm with multipath fading channel is usually high. By combining Rake receiver and blind multiuser detection based on the affine projection algorithm (APA), an adaptive receiver which can be used in multipath fading channel is presented in this paper. As the APA can provide a good capability to tradeoff convergence speed and computational complexity, the proposed receiver has much improved convergence speed and tracking properties compared to the LMS-based receiver with much reduced computational cost compared to the one based on RLS algorithm, and also the new receiver is extremely near-far resistant. Simulation results are presented to compare our APA-based receiver with the blind LMS and RLS-based schemes and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed receiver.

Distributed adaptive networks achieve better estimation performance by exploiting temporal as well as spatial diversity. In this paper, we consider the problem of estimating multiple optimal parameter vectors (also termed as tasks) under correlated input, over a sensor network, where the nodes within the same cluster are engaged in estimating a common optimum parameter vector in distributed manner. For this, we present an efficient multitask diffusion affine projection algorithm (APA). The proposed scheme uses a regularized term to promote similarity among the parameter vectors estimated by neighboring clusters. Usage of APA makes the algorithm robust against correlated input. We present important results on the mean and mean square convergence of the proposed strategy. Simulations are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Compared to the non-cooperative APA, the proposed multitask diffusion APA exhibits remarkably improved performance in terms of both convergence rate and steady-state MSD.

A polynomial zero attracting affine projection algorithm is prosed in this work for sparse system identification. The existing zero attracting algorithms based on affine projection algorithm for sparse system identification, consider an objective function which is a combination of an l(2)-norm and an approximation of l(0)-norm. The difference between these algorithms is the approximation of the l(0)-norm. In order to further improve the zero attraction capability of sparse adaptive algorithms based on affine projection algorithm, a polynomial is used to approximate the l(0)-norm. Simulation results verify that the proposed algorithm is effective for sparse system identification.

An affine projection algorithm (APA) with decomposed weight vector and variable step size is proposed in this paper so as to improve the performance of adaptive filter. The optimal value of variable step size is obtained by the largest decrease in the mean square deviation error. This proposed variable step size optimally decomposed APA has improved convergence with smaller value of steady state error. Moreover the total computational complexity, time and cost is also found to be less. The proposed algorithm is validated by simulation for acoustic echo cancellation application. From the simulation results, it is proved that the proposed algorithm has faster convergence and smaller steady state error than conventional APA.

A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel equalization scheme for time-varying wireless channels is proposed. The proposed equalization technique uses set-membership affine projection (SM-AP) algorithm for updating filter weights of a decision feedback equalizer (DFE). The performance of the proposed scheme is investigated through simulations using wireless channel models recommended by International Telecommunication Union for Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R). The results show that the proposed scheme achieves a fast convergence speed. The convergence performance of this scheme has also been studied for different projection order and compared with the convergence performance of set-membership normalized least mean-square (SM-NLMS) algorithm based MIMO-DFE. The proposed equalizer has low complexity and works well even in frequency-selective channels.

Acoustic echo cancellation and feedback cancellation systems require robust and computationally efficient adaptive filtering techniques. In this paper, a new affine projection algorithm with intermittent update of the filter coefficients is proposed where the update interval is determined according to the adaptation state. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides improved performance and reduced average computational complexity compared with other similar algorithms for acoustic echo cancellation and acoustic feedback cancellation applications.

In this paper, a data-reusing algorithm with non-zero decision boundaries for data-selective updating of the coefficients of a decision feedback equalizer (DFE) is investigated for time-varying frequency selective wireless channels. Here, the coefficients of both the feed-forward filter (FFF) and the feedback filter (FBF) are adaptively updated using set-membership affine projection algorithm. It's performance is analyzed through simulations using ITUR recommended wireless channel models. It is shown that, this scheme offers substantial computational savings while keeping the bit error rate (BER) and convergence performance almost similar to channel equalization with the data reusing affine projection algorithms. It is also demonstrated that, this channel equalization method yields faster convergence and better BER than the existing set-membership normalized least mean square (NLMS) algorithm based scheme.
