In this paper, an M-estimate affine projection algorithm based on correntropy induced metric (MAPA-CIM) is proposed for robust sparse adaptive filtering. The proposed MAPA-CIM algorithm uses an M-estimate robust cost function with correntropy induced metric, which is derived by using the unconstrained minimization method. Simulation results show that the proposed MAPA-CIM algorithm has better convergence speed and lower steady-state misalignment for sparse system identification and echo cancellation scenarios in non-Gaussian environments with colored input signal over the usual adaptive filtering algorithms. It is based on recent developments in augmented complex statistics, CR calculus, and the widely linear modelling in C, making it suitable for the processing of noncircular complex valued signals. Simulations on circular and noncircular benchmark and real-world noncircular wind signals show the effectiveness of WL-APA as compared to standard APA.

A channel equalization technique based on the affine projection algorithms (APA) with set-membership (SM) filtering for updating filters of a decision feedback equalizer (DFE) is proposed for time-varying wireless channels. The performance of the proposed approach is analyzed through simulations. It is shown in the results that this scheme offers advantages of having substantial fewer number of weight updating operations at moderate SNR with almost similar convergence as normal APA based equalizer. The introduced equalizer converges faster with a marginal increase in complexity than the set-membership normalized least mean square (NLMS) algorithm based equalizer.

For a network canceler, whose input is mainly speech, the proportionate affine projection algorithm (PAPA) is expected to present faster convergence speed than the existing proportionate NLMS algorithms. However, the performance criteria of fast convergence speed conflicts with low steady-state misalignment when a constant step-size parameter is applied. In this article we introduce a variable step-size technique into the PAPA in order to achieve both fast convergence speed and low steady-state misalignment. Simulation results show that the proposed approach can greatly improve the steady-state misalignment without sacrificing the fast convergence speed of the PAPA.

In dSPU-APA, the weight coefficients are partially updated at each node during the adaptation. With the development of adaptive filter theory, many adaptive filtering techniques are used for harmonic current detection, and achieved some good results. However, conventional algorithms still have some poor properties, such as low accuracy and slow convergence rate. Based on adaptive noise cancellation theory, this paper proposed a variable step size affine projection algorithm (VSS-APA) for harmonic current detection. The step size of the proposed method is updated by the coherence average estimation of the proportion denoted by the error signal in the total signal. The VSS-APA has fast convergence rate and good tracking performance of fundamental and harmonic components from distorted signals, and simulation results prove the algorithm having a good feature.

In this paper, a novel structure is proposed in order to improve the functionality of Adaptive Noise Cancellers (ANC);for this purpose affine projection algorithm (APA) has been used. We exploit the Stationary Wavelet Transform (SWT) to decompose the input signals in subbnad to achieve a higher convergence rate. The reason of using SWT (an oversampled filter bank) is to reduce the effect of aliasing which produces some disturbance on the adaptive process. Since In the higher frequency subbands, there is no noticeable difference between APA and simpler approaches such as spectral subtraction or Wiener filter, these algorithms are substituted instead of APA for the sake of complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed ANC performance is better than the conventional ANC which uses adaptive algorithm in the time domain.. The results of subjective and objective tests confirm this fact.

Based on affine projection algorithm (APA) in adaptive filtering and the technique of parallel computing, we propose a novel algorithm called l(0)-APA with its parallel implementation for sparse system identification and sparse signal recovery. For sparse system identification, parallel l(0)-APA can serve as an effective approach for practical hardware implementation, since it lowers the requirement on the processors' clock speed. For sparse signal recovery, it can significantly reduce the convergence time. Prior algorithms such as l(0)-LMS and l(0)-ZAP can be seen as special cases of l(0)-APA. Finally the performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed and verified by numerical experiments.

It uses a constant step size parameter and, therefore, has to compromise between fast convergence and tracking on the one hand, and low misadjustment and robustness to the presence and variations of a near-end signal on the other hand. In this paper we propose a variable step-size (VSS) version of the DCD-AP algorithm (VSS-DCD-AP) that does not require any a priori information about the acoustic environment. Based on the wavelet transform (WT) and the affine projection algorithm, a new adaptive filter with a variable step-size scheme, so-called WAPA filter, is proposed in this paper. The computation performance of the WAPA filter is further verified by some numerical simulations and engineering applications. Comparing with the traditional affine projection algorithm (APA), the newly proposed algorithm can provide a faster convergence speed with the same mean square errors (MSE). This implies that the WAPA order may be reduced for a same filtering result;and the saved computation time may counteract the computation expenses of the wavelet transform. The faster convergence speed and the lower steady state MSE (or mis-adjustment) can be attributed to the variable step-size scheme adopted in the WAPA, which is much better than the normal variable step-size APAs.
