Multi-agent systems become more and more popular due to successful implementations in different fields. However, there is a number of threats that can compromise security of the agent and jeopardize systems security. Therefore, security issues should be taken into consideration during development of multi-agent systems. However, different existing methodologies that provide guidelines and models for development of multi-agent systems omit security. Therefore, there is a great need in offering security solutions which are integrated with system functionalities. This research presents a model for securing multi-agent systems, which is developed, based on the concepts and models regarding agent's role and communications. Moreover, possible attacks on multi-agent systems are presented and threats are categorized. Furthermore, general security requirements at the agent and the system levels are defined and considered in the proposed model. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

The paper presents a Virtual Intelligent Personal Assistant (VIPA) designated to facilitate the field work of the bat researchers. It is a mobile software based on BDI Architecture developed using freely available Open Source technologies. Its initial version includes some basic functionalities such as gathering of fully customizable field data, processing of tins data, analysis and reports. VIPAs are software agents designated to assist users in performing specific tasks. They are able to communicate, cooperate, discuss, and guide people. One major advantage of the VIPAs is that they collaborate with the user in different ways, and in virtually unlimited tasks and applications, by hiding the complexity of difficult tasks, performing them on behalf of the user, and leaching the user to monitor events and procedures.

In this paper we show how multiple BDI agents, enhanced with temporal difference learning capabilities, learn their utility function, while they are concurrently exploring an uncertain environment. We focus on the programming aspects of the agents using the Jason agent-oriented programming language. We also provide experimental results showing the behavior of multiple agents acting in a Markovian grid environment. Microservices is a flexible architectural style that has many advantages over the alternative monolithic style. These include better performance and scalability. It is particularly suitable, and widely adopted, for cloud-based applications, because in this architecture a software system consisting of a large suite of services of fine granularity, each running its own process and communicating with the others. However, programming such systems is more complex. In this paper we report on CIDE, an integrated software development environment that helps with this. CIDE supports programming in a novel agent-oriented language called CAOPLE and tests their execution in a cluster environment. We present the architecture of CIDE, discuss its design based on the principles of the DevOps software development methodology, and describe facilities that support continuous testing and seamless integration, two other advantages of Microservices.

Our paper presents an agent-based simulation environment for task scheduling in a distributed computer systems (grid). The scheduler enables the simultaneous allocation of resources like CPU time, communication bandwidth, volatile, and non-volatile memory while employing a combinatorial resource allocation mechanism. The resources are allocated by an iterative combinatorial auction with proxy-bidding agents that try to acquire their desired resource allocation profiles with respect to limited monetary budget endowments. In order to achieve an efficient bidding process, the auctioneer provides information on resource prices to the bidding agents. The calculation of explicit resource prices in a combinatorial auction is computationally demanding, especially if the the bid bundles exhibit complementarities or substitutionalities. We therefore propose a new approximate pricing mechanism using shadow prices from a linear programming formulation for this purpose. The efficiency of the shadow price-based allocation mechanism is tested in the context of a closed loop grid system in which the agents can use monetary units rewarded for the resources they provide to the system for the acquisition of complementary capacity. Two types of proxy-bidding agents are compared in terms of efficiency (received units of resources, time until bid acceptance) within this scenario: An aggressive bidding agent with strongly rising bids and a smooth bidding agent with slowly increasing bids.

This research introduces the extension of an agent-oriented system aimed at reducing driver waiting times at a street intersection. The work on JADEL originates from the need to assist programmers by means of tools that reduce the complexity and speed up the construction of a JADE agents and multi-agent systems.
