There is a rapid emergence of tools, methods, and guidance for the use of AI across all parts of the software development process, from requirements gathering to code generation to testing and user feedback. However, AI raises many concerns regarding responsible use, and there is a need to understand and develop principles for what responsible software development entails in practice in an agile context, as well as carefully evaluate the incorporation of AI tools and methods in software engineering. We draw on experience from Bespot, Knowit, Schibsted, and Spotify to identify challenges faced by companies pioneering the use of AI in their software development efforts and start charting a roadmap for responsible AI in software engineering.

In this paper, first the notions are defined that are important for running integration projects - system of systems and sociotechnical system and it is then argued that integrated systems should be treated as sociotechnical systems of systems. This is followed by defining the conceptual framework viewpoint framework - required for agile engineering of such systems. Based on the viewpoint framework, the agile software engineering methodology for engineering sociotechnical systems of systems is then defined, proceeding by different viewpoint aspects. Presenting the methodology is illustrated by examples from the ongoing large-scale integration project by the European Union.

Towards Agility in Breast Cancer Treatment Principles as Adopted from agile software engineering

Purpose: The complex nature of breast cancer demands flexible and adaptable principles that can account for the diverse characteristics and evolving conditions of each patient. However, there are no common breast cancer treatment agility principles that can influence policies and direct breast cancer professionals and healthcare providers into enhancing the delivery of health outcomes to patients under these conditions along with continuous rapid improvements in breast cancer treatment plan design. The incorporation of agile principles from software engineering offers a promising avenue for enhancing patient care. This research is conducted to identify breast cancer treatment agility principles adopted from the software engineering field and to validate their conformance to agility through work reported from literature in breast cancer treatment context. Material and Methods: The authors applied a structured research methodology that involved interviews for eliciting and validating twelve agility principles from oncologists. Discussion of each principle is reflected using work reported from literature as a form of validation. Finally, a domain expert reviewed the literature-driven validation for each of the twelve identified breast cancer treatment agile principle to finally validate their conformance to agility and provide results. Results: This work resulted twelve validated agility principles for breast cancer treatment and classified whether they are meeting, partially-(hybrid), or not meeting agility. Seven out of the twelve agile principles resulted as meeting agility, where the remaining five principles resulted as partially meeting agility. None of them is recorded as not meeting agility. Conclusion: The work contributes to forming an agile mindset that can empower breast cancer professionals to optimize treatment plans, enhance patient experiences, and continuously improve the quality of care. Many studies have reported the utilization of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in teaching software engineering courses. However, these studies have different views of the effectiveness of PBL. This paper presents the design of an Advanced software engineering course for undergraduate software engineering students that uses PBL to teach them agile software development methods-particularly Scrum. The course also aims to develop entrepreneurial skills needed for software engineering graduates to better prepare them for the software industry. The assessment process designed for this course is illustrated. The paper shows that Scrum practices correlate with the characteristics of the PBL approach, which has resulted in a successful experience of PBL as reported by students in an end of a semester survey.

SAP AG has taught more than 4,000 developers the agile software engineering methodology since 2010. As such, the company offers a unique setting to study its impact on developers' work. In this paper, we discuss how developers perceive the impact of pair programming and test automation on software quality, delivered feature scope, and various team work aspects. We draw our findings from a companywide survey with answers from 174 developers working in 74 teams and 15 product owners from five locations worldwide. We complement our findings with insights from two in -depths case studies with two development teams. As expected, our findings confirm that the studied practices help developers develop better software. Deviating from existing preconceptions, however, the responding developers do not report a significant drop in their development speed. In addition, high adopters are more proud of their own contributions to the team, report a better team learning, and feel more motivated.

To prepare students for real-life software engineering projects, many higher-education institutions offer courses that simulate working life to varying degrees. As software engineering requires not only technical, but also inter-and intrapersonal skills, these skills should also be assessed. Assessing soft skills is challenging, especially when project-based and experiential learning are the primary pedagogical approaches. Previous work suggests that including students in the assessment process can yield a more complete picture of student performance. This paper presents experiences with developing and using a peer assessment framework that provides a 360-degree view on students' project performance. Our framework has been explicitly constructed to accommodate and evaluate tacit skills that are relevant in agile software development. The framework has been evaluated with 18 bachelors- and 11 masters-level capstone projects, totaling 176 students working in self-organized teams. We found that the framework eases teacher workload and allows a more thorough assessment of students' skills. We suggest including self- and peer assessment into software capstone projects alongside other, more traditional schemes like productivity metrics, and discuss challenges and opportunities in defining learning goals for tacit and social skills.

The Computational Thinking (CT) mindset can support basic education by providing tools and strategies for students to solve problems in many subjects. In this context, system design is an important CT practice because it allows students to automate their solutions. This paper proposes a conceptual framework based on agile software engineering practices to teach students digital game development and consequently improve CT skills. The maker culture was also taken into account in the proposed approach. The framework was applied to middle school students. Data were collected and analyzed by Rubric guided interviews and project evaluation. The results pointed out that the approach can be able to actively engage students in different aspects of software development.

There are problems with Traditional software engineering and with agile software Development. A new approach called agile software engineering that combines the best of both is proposed and an aspect of this approach described. The Dual Application Model involves the development of a logical software application focused on capturing the functional requirements and a physical software application focused on transforming the logical application to meet the non-functional requirements. It has advantages and disadvantages like any approach to software development but meets two of the principles proposed for agile software engineering. Frameworks and tools are proposed to support the Dual Application Model but are not essential to the approach. The approach provides an almost complete separation of concerns between defining and specifying (in code) the domain solution / software problem for which the domain experts are primarily responsible and designing and implementing the software solution to meet the nonfunctional requirements for which the software developers are primarily responsible.

Developing agile software is a method to deliver and develop software products quickly and effectively. agile methodology tends to favor Functional Requirements (FRs) while disregarding Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs). Disregarding NFRs can have adverse effects on software that can result in lower quality and increased rate to repair software in later stages. This research is a component of the Capture Elicit and Prioritizing (CEP) methodology. The Prioritizing part of the methdology is covered in this paper. The goal of this research focuses on the prioritizing part to improve the prioritization of NFRs. This study provides methods in NFRs prioritization during beginning stages in agile development process. The Capture Elicit Prioritize methodology prioritizes NFRs by using the alpha beta gamma- framework similar to priority of FRs. The alpha beta gamma-framework provides unique capabilities to development teams. The interchanging capabilities of the alpha beta gamma-framework allows developers to be flexible. Prioritization of NFRs concurs with developing agile software. This accommodates agile developer to plan for budget and time.
