This paper delves into agile development methods in Software Engineering,contrasting them with the traditional Waterfall model and analyzing their *** methods,known for their adaptability and customer-centric approach,have gained prominence in the fast-paced software development *** methods,including Scrum,Kanban,and Extreme Programming(XP),are characterized by iterative cycles,collaborative efforts,and a focus on rapid delivery and quality *** paper compares these agile methodologies to the sequential and rigid Waterfall model,highlighting agile’s superior flexibility,adaptability,and responsiveness to changing *** emphasizes the importance of customer involvement in agile processes,which leads to higher satisfaction and better alignment with user *** analysis reveals that agile methods not only enhance the speed of delivery but also improve the overall quality of the software *** paper concludes that agile methodologies are more effective in today's dynamic software development environment,providing a robust framework for managing complex projects and ensuring the delivery of high-quality,relevant software solutions.

Many NFRs (Non-functional requirements) problems have been encountered when using agile development methods. In this thesis, we tried to solve those problems by adapting agile development methods with Non-functional requirements-framework (NFR-Framework). In this thesis, we have inspected many research papers, and we have met industrial experts for feedback regarding our theoretical results. As a result of the inspection, we have been able to adapt agile development methods (extreme programming (XP)) with NFR-framework. We use XP since it is more practically oriented process than other agile development methods. In the first try for this process model, we got three alternatives for applying it. The first one is based on collecting all NFRs from the beginning of the development process. The second one is based on updating the SIG (software interdependency graph) every time we have new functional requirements (FR) and the third one is based on the incremental nature of agile development methods. Each one of these alternatives has it is own advantages and disadvantages. We tried to extract those advantages and disadvantages by brainstorming and reading research pa- pers. The most important issue in all of the three alternatives is the applicability. Finally we got industrial feedback regarding all of them. As a result of the industrial feedback, we were able to find another alternative of how to apply the process model which is presented in 7.2. This thesis first introduces agile development methods and XP, and then we list some NFR problems, introduce NFR-framework, introduce the process model, industrial expert feedback and results of that meeting and finally case study of how we can use this process model.

The article explains the impact of agile software development on industrial software development practices. The author mentions that agile software development does not pay sufficient attention to software architecture. He cites that this method applies to domains such as automobiles, telecommunications, finance and medical devices which require large software intensive systems. Also cited are multiple levels to understanding the conflict between agile development and architecture.

Computer mediated communication is ubiquitous in Software design projects. Email is used for project coordination, but also for design, implementation and test. Especially with currents agile development methods, it is very common to interact through computer meditated communication like email, instant messaging and other collaborative tools in order to express functional needs, notify of issues and take appropriate decisions. In this paper we propose a Knowledge Trace Retrieval (KTR) system. It addresses the problem of retrieving elements of problem solving and design rationale inside business emails from a project. Even if knowledge management tools and practices are well spread in industry, they are rarely used for small projects. Our system aims at helping user retrieve traces of problem solving knowledge in large corpus of email from a past project. The framework and methodology is based on enhanced context (project data, user competencies and profiles), and use machine learning technics and ranking algorithm. © 2016

Change Vector Tracking is a software engineering practice to achieve a high level of software design agility. This practice is iterative and reflective in nature and can be used to evaluate different design options with respect to the most important nonfunctional requirement, modifiability. Change in business requirements is the only constant in software development process and the key philosophy behind Change Vector Tracking is to identify and model this change as a vector and track it to make good refactoring decisions. The resulting software is less rigid and less fragile thus leading to lesser maintenance cost. This practice aids in Emergent design and is more suited for teams who have embraced agile software development frameworks.(1)

Plan driven cultures are characterized by a strong belief in the plannability and predictability of software development projects. The SEI-CMM, software process improvement initiatives, and software metrics programs are some of the hallmarks of this school of thought. The more recent trend towards agile development places the emphasis on constantly adapting to a project's changing goals rather than on detailed upfront planning. The majority of reports from pracitioners of agile development are positive and confirm the advantages of this approach. However, moving from a plan driven culture to agile development is not easy. Making the transition requires changes to many established practices and may even touch core values held by stakeholders. Areas affected are requirements and change management, user involvement, willingness to take on responsibility, contract management, and the ability to live with many uncertainties. This talk looks at what it takes to make the transition and presents lessons learned from organizations and projects which have successfully completed the switch to agile development.

Is it true that agile methods do not scale well and are mainly useful for smaller software projects? Or is it rather the case that it is particularly in the context of larger, typically more complex software projects that the use of agile methods is likely to make the difference between success and failure? To find out more about this, we conducted a questionnaire-based survey analyzing information about 101 Norwegian software projects. Project success was measured as the combined performance of the project regarding delivered client benefits, cost control, and time control. We found that that projects using agile methods performed on average much better than those using non-agile methods for medium and large software projects, but not so much for smaller projects. This result gives support for the claim that agile methods are more rather than less successful compared to traditional methods when project size increases. There may consequently be more reasons to be concerned about how non-agile, rather than how agile methods, scale.

Mobile Cloud Computing has been a recent research and development area. Various framework and middleware have been developed recently providing solutions for utilizing cloud computing resources on resource constrained mobile devices. A very few number of works present sound engineering mechanism for developing such software. This paper discusses issues in developing mobile cloud applications using agile software development methodologies. Sha-Mo-Cloud, a hybrid cloud framework was developed leveraging public cloud services for storing data including images and videos captured from user's mobile devices. Users can upload, access, manage and share personal content using web interface as well as a mobile application. To preserve user privacy and personalized data, part of the framework was developed in a private cloud environment. This work also reports the engineering aspects of development of ShaMoCloud. The software construction team previously developed similar applications using Team Software Process. The work presented here, compares and contrasts the experiences of the ShaMoCloud development team with four similar projects carried out recently. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

This paper presents an overview of methodological support to tackle the challenges of uncertain and complex requirements, amorphous procedures and increasing systems complexity in early stage naval vessels design. The findings show that methodological support is available through various separate methods such as the Ship Design Spiral, the Systems Engineering Veemodel, agile development methods and agile Systems Architectures, but lack integration into a holistic method. To overcome this problem, a Multi Domain Matrix is introduced that integrates the several approaches by combining Process Architecture Design Structure Matrices and Product Architecture Design Structure Matrices. Furthermore an approach is proposed that combines activities of the Ship Design Spiral, the Systems Engineering Vee model and agile method Scrum with an agile Systems Architecture Pattern applied to naval ship architecture. Thus, this paper contributes to a holistic methodology in naval ship design to address current and future challenges through agile Systems Engineering.

Context: Many researchers advocate "tailoring" agile methods to suit a project's or company's specific environment and needs. This includes combining agile methods with more traditional "plan driven" practices. Objective: This study aims to assess to what extent projects actually combine agile and traditional practices. Method: Data from the HELENA survey of nearly 700 projects were examined to assess how many projects combine agile methods and traditional methods, and also to what extent they used different software development practices. Results: The data show that, overall, two-thirds of the projects in the survey combine agile and traditional methods to some extent. However, projects that combine agile and traditional methods are significantly less likely to use agile practices than projects that solely use agile methods. Conclusions: We hypothesize that the mindset of an organization, rather than technical necessity, determines whether a project will adopt a hybrid vs. purely agile approach.
