Wireless sensor networks are comprised of a vast number of ultra-small autonomous computing, communication and sensing devices, with restricted energy and computing capabilities, that co-operate to accomplish a large sensing task. Such networks can be very useful in practice, e.g. in the local monitoring of ambient conditions and reporting them to a control center. In this paper we propose a new lightweight, distributed group key establishment protocol suitable for such energy constrained networks. Our approach basically trade-offs complex message exchanges by performing some amount of additional local computations. The extra computations are simple for the devices to implement and are evenly distributed across the participants of the network leading to good energy balance. We evaluate the performance our protocol in comparison to existing group key establishment protocols both in simulated and real environments. The intractability of all protocols is based on the Diffie-Hellman problem and we used its elliptic curve analog in our experiments. Our findings basically indicate the feasibility of implementing our protocol in real sensor network devices and highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each approach given the available technology and the corresponding efficiency (energy, time) criteria.

A simple, rapid, and robust algorithm for the design of segmentally baffled shell and tube heat exchangers is presented. The algorithm ensures full use of the maximum allowable pressure drops given typically as design specifications, with no geometric restrictions on the equipment. The core of the algorithm is provided by two compact formulations that relate the pressure drop for each side of the exchanger with the film heat transfer coefficient and the exchanger area. The compact formula for the tube side includes the effects of tube ends while the one for the shell side is based on the Bell-Delaware method. The parameters of the compact formulas are used as search variables in the designalgorithm. Two examples are presented that show how the algorithm compares to other reported design methods and how the search for realistic solutions is aided by this method.

Model-robust designs are generated using a combination of algorithms based on several optimality criteria. The content of the candidate list and the sequencing of the point-selection algorithms has a major impact on overall design quality When properly constructed, model-robust designs enable nonlinear variable effects to be visualized and estimated due to the sampling of the interior of the design space accomplished by these designs. There are also many cases in which the assumption of a normally and independently distributed (NID) experimental error is not valid. Model-robust designs are also shown to support these experiment circumstances, among others. Additionally, the model independence of these designs aids outlier and residuals diagnostics, and response data transformation analysis. An improved linear programming algorithm for the design of optimal linear-phase FIR filters with extra time-domain or frequency-domain constraints is presented. After stating the problem as involving the minimization of a linear function of filter parameters with linear constraints, a method is given for choosing an initial basic feasible solution of the dual problem that does not require the introduction of artificial variables. This significantly reduces the number of iterations of the revised simplex algorithm needed to reach the optimal solution.

In cycling accidents, head injuries have been one cause of high injury rates. Therefore, the protection of the head from injuries is essential to any cyclist. Helmets are an effective head protective system. The protective capabilities of helmets are provided by inner liners made of expanded polystyrene foams (EPS). However, it is not easy to adopt this material to obtain more protective capabilities, limited by weight requirements and wearing comfort. Therefore, it is still significant to propose a new helmet design method. The honeycomb structure is a structure with excellent properties such as lightweight and energy absorption. The use of honeycomb structures in helmet design can improve energy absorption. This also does not add extra weight to a helmet. Since helmets are curved in shape, the design of honeycomb structures needs to adapt to curved surfaces. This paper proposes a new parametric design method. It enables the more flexible creation of honeycomb structures on curved surfaces. Finally, we apply the developed method to complete the design of a honeycomb-shaped helmet.

Here we present an approach using storytelling methods of computer game design in modeling some finite-state machine algorithms and applications requiring user interaction. An open source software Twine is used for the task. Interactive nonlinear stories created with Twine are applications that can be executed in a web browser. Storytelling approach provides an easy-to-understand view on computational algorithms allowing communication with people with no computer science education. We consider a waveform-agile sensing algorithm for designing transmitted waveforms in rapidly-varying radar scenes to improve target detection performance. Specifically, we first track the scattering function of rapidly-varying sea clutter in low signal-to-clutter ratios (SCRs) at each burst by estimating the clutter's space-time covariance matrix. Simultaneously, we schedule the waveform to be transmitted in the next burst by minimizing the sea clutter influence based on the estimated clutter statistics. The effectiveness of our waveform-agile sensing approach is demonstrated by detecting a moving target in heavy sea clutter using configured waveforms, and then comparing the resulting performance to that of detecting the target using fixed-parameter linear frequency-modulated waveforms.

In view of the lack of relatively complete theory to guide the interface design of network applications, the design quality of network software products is not high, so this project intends to study the user interface design method for network software. Firstly, the paper puts forward that graphics and fonts are the two most important elements in mobile phone user interface design. Then a visual attention segmentation model for user interface is established to determine the importance of each visual element in user interface. Using the method of visual attention, the picture and text in the web page are automatically combined, so as to realize the design of mobile phone user interface of web software. The results of the UI interface design of the system can meet the requirements of users well through experiments. The experiment proves that the scheme is feasible. The appropriate number and size of pictures can add a visual vitality to the mobile UI interface of online goods and improve the overall design level.
