FREQUENCY-DOMAIN SYNTHESIS OF OPTIMAL INPUTS FOR ONLINE IDENTIFICATION AND ADAPTIVE-CONTROL

In this note, we formulate an input design problem for choosing proper inputs for use in SISO on-line identification and model reference adaptive control algorithms. When the convergence rate divided by the adaptation gain is optimized for this adaptation gain going to zero, characterization of the optimal inputs is given in the frequency domain and is arrived at through the use of averaging theory. An expression for what we call the average information matrix is derived and its properties are studied. To solve the input design problem, we recast the design problem in the form of an optimization which maximizes the smallest eigenvalue of the average information matrix over power constrained signals. A convergent numerical algorithm, which is the main thrust of this research, is provided to obtain the optimal solution.

Two algorithms for tracking parameters of slowly varying multiple complex sine waves (cisoids) in noise (the multiple frequency tracker and the adaptive notch filter) are described, For high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the properties of the algorithms (i.e., stability, noise rejection, and tracking speed) are studied analytically using a linear filter approximation technique, The tradeoff between noise rejection and tracking error for both algorithms is shown to be similar, Different choices of the design variables are discussed, namely i) minimal mean-square estimation error for random walk modeled frequency variations and ii) minimal stationary estimation variance subject to a given tracking delay.

Generation of Accurate Lane-Level Maps from Coarse Prior Maps and Lidar

While many research projects on autonomous driving and advanced driver support systems make heavy use of highly accurate maps covering large areas, there is relatively little work on methods for automatically generating such maps. These maps require accuracy in both the number of lanes and positioning of every lane, which we call lanelevel maps. Here, we present a method that combines coarse, inaccurate prior maps from Open-StreetMap (OSM) with local sensor information from 3D Lidar and a positioning system. We formulate a probabilistic model of lane structure using such information, and develop a number of tractable inference algorithms. These algorithms leverage the coarse structural information present in OSM, and integrates it with the highly accurate local sensor measurements. The resulting maps have extremely good alignment with manually constructed baseline maps generated for autonomous driving experiments.

MULTIPLE-ACCESS algorithmS FOR A SYSTEM WITH MIXED TRAFFIC - HIGH AND LOW PRIORITY

We consider a system where a single channel is shared by both high- and low-priority data. We assume packet transmissions from both data categories and slotted channel. In addition, we assume binary, collision versus noncollision, feedback per slot, and limited feedback sensing capabilities for all users in the system. We assume that the high-priority data are generated by a well-defined finite-number user population, while we adopt the limit Poisson user model (infinitely many independent Bernoulli users) for the low-priority traffic. For this system, we propose and analyze a transmission algorithm, which is a mixture between a deterministic tree search, for the high-priority users, and a random-access algorithm, for the low-priority traffic. The algorithm is stable for both traffic classes, it guarantees a strict upper bound on the delays of the high-priority packets, and induces good throughput-delay characteristics for the low-priority data.

ADAPTIVE BEAMFORMING - SPATIAL FILTER designED BLOCKING MATRIX

Controlling the resolution in adaptive beamformers is often crucial. A simple method that works for both narrowband and broad-band arrays is presented. This method is based on the normalized leaky LMS algorithm in conjunction with a generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) structure, where the GSC is designed using a spatial filtering approach. In essence, the suppression of the spatial filters and the implicit noise of the leaky LMS algorithm together determine the adaptive beamformer. Analytical expressions are given for the Wiener filters and the output spectrum versus frequency and point source location. These expressions are employed in the design specification of the spatial filters and to obtain conditions for a controlled quiescent beamformer response. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the behavior of the array.

Processing throughput estimation for radar intercept receivers

Analytical expressions for the computational requirements of broad classes of radar pulse deinterleaving algorithms are developed. The analysis applies to block collection systems and is principally intended for systems with insufficient monopulse resolution to uniquely sort emitters on monopulse parameters alone. The analysis begins with triplet sequence search approaches and is confirmed by simulation. It is also shown that this approach generalizes to more complex deinterleaving schemes, including M-tuple search and time of arrival (TOA) difference histogramming. All cases exhibit the same basic functional form of quadratic dependence on the number of emitters, linear dependence on the collection time, and complex dependence on the pulse deletion (or dropping) probability.

A VR-based system for the virtual prototyping of shoes employs a user interface that mimics shoe designer's conventional work style, using a pen and a shoe last as 3D proxy objects. Users sketch design lines onto the last. For this task, the system employs an algorithm for real-time sketch recognition on curved surfaces. On the basis of the framework of curves, the system creates further design elements (for example, leather pieces) to complete the model. Users can employ three pen-based interaction metaphors to interact directly with design elements, to input values, or to make choices from a menu. A user study shows that conventional designers can easily learn and apply these interaction methods. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Lower bounds for the number of frequencies required by solutions of certain frequency assignment problems are derived. The bounds constitute generalizations of the clique number, which appears in the pure co-channel case, to problems including adjacent channel and co-site constraints as well as preassigned and blocked frequencies. Examples of mobile telephone systems are studied with the aid of these bounds.

This review paper examines the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) and dynamic ensemble techniques in enhancing healthcare services. By systematically reviewing literature and case studies from the past decade, we explore how these advanced computational methods improve diagnostic accuracy, personalize treatment plans, and optimize patient monitoring. Dynamic ensemble techniques, which leverage multiple predictive models to improve outcome accuracy, offer significant promise in addressing the complexities of patient data and disease manifestations. This paper delves into applications spanning AI-driven diagnostics, personalized medicine, and remote patient monitoring, highlighting both the advancements and challenges faced in integrating these technologies into healthcare. We also address the ethical and computational challenges inherent in deploying dynamic ensemble methods and propose directions for future research. Our findings suggest that while significant progress has been made, multidisciplinary collaboration and continued innovation are crucial for overcoming current limitations and realizing the full potential of AI in healthcare.

This paper validates two approximate dynamic programming approaches on a maritime interdiction problem involving the allocation of multiple heterogeneous assets over a large area of responsibility to interdict multiple drug smugglers using heterogeneous types of transportation on the sea with varying contraband weights. The asset allocation is based on a probability of activity surface, which represents spatio-temporal target activity obtained by integrating intelligence data on drug smuggler whereabouts/waypoints for contraband transportation, behavior models, and meteorological and oceanographic information. We validate the proposed architectural and algorithmic concepts via several realistic mission scenarios. We conduct sensitivity analyses to quantify the robustness and proactivity of our approach, as well as to measure the value of information used in the allocation process. The contributions of this paper have been transitioned to and are currently being tested by Joint Interagency Task Force-South, an organization tasked with providing the initial line of defense against drug trafficking in the East Pacific and Caribbean Oceans.
