A hybrid scheduling is introduced that effectively combines broadcasting of more popular data (push data) and dissemination upon-request for less popular data (pull data), for asymmetric environments where the clients outnumber the servers having higher downlink communication (server to client) bandwidth than the uplink communication (client to server) bandwidth. We do not assume prior knowledge of the data access probability; in fact data access probabilities and thereby the cut-off-point to separate the push and the pull set are computed dynamically. In our scheme all the data items are assumed to be of variable length arranged in descending order of their access probabilities. The clients send their requests to the server, which queues them up for the pull items. At any instant of time, the item to be broadcast is designated applying a pure-push scheduling; whereas the item to be pulled is the one stored in the pull-queue, which has accumulated, so far, the highest number of pending requests with minimum service time requirement. The expected waiting time spent by a client in the hybrid schedule is evaluated analytically, and the cut-off point between push and pull items is chosen to minimize waiting time.

Loss ratio based random early detection (LRED) scheme has been recently proposed for improving the response and robustness of active queue management (AQM) in Internet routers. It measures the latest packet loss ratio periodically, and adjusts its packet loss probability around the measured value. Our goal is to identify the key factors that drive the effectiveness of this design. We present a stability analysis for the TCP/LRED delayed feedback system. Our analysis suggests that the stability of LRED scheme can be decoupled from TCP load N. Thus LRED scales well with a wide range of traffic conditions. Furthermore, based on the stability analysis, we propose a scalable algorithm both for TCP load N and for link capacity C. In the end, we study the packet loss ratio estimate scheme, which is a key factor of LRED, and present a full average loss (FAL) filter algorithm. Simulations validate that the proposed filter algorithm responds quickly to the change of traffic conditions and achieves a steady estimate in the presence of extremely short term flows.

In this paper, we contribute two reconfigurable integer motion estimation (IME) architectures (namely RSADT and RPPSAD) based on adaptive algorithm. Firstly, based on the pixel difference analysis, the spatial redundancy is further exploited and three subsampling patterns are selected adaptively. Secondly, in order to keep full data reuse, we propose an architecture level data organization for RSADT architecture. For RPPSAD, we apply pixel classification and memory organization to keep full data reuse. An interactive data loading scheme is proposed to reduce power dissipation. Experiments show that, with some extra hardware, our RSADT can averagely achieve 65.86% reduction in processing time; as for RPPSAD, it can save 25.4% to 39.8% power dissipation when processing typical HDTV720p sequences.

Leader election is a very important problem, not only in wired networks, but in mobile, ad hoc networks as well. Existing solutions to leader election do not handle frequent topology changes and dynamic nature of mobile networks. We present a leader election algorithm that is highly adaptive to arbitrary (possibly concurrent) topological changes and is therefore well-suited for use in mobile ad hoc networks. The algorithm is based on finding an extrema and uses diffusing computations for this purpose. We show, using linear-time temporal logic, that the algorithm is "weakly" self-stabilizing and terminating. We also simulate the algorithm in a mobile ad hoc setting. Through our simulation study, we elaborate on several important issues that can significantly impact performance of such a protocol for mobile ad hoc networks such as choice of signaling, broadcast nature of wireless medium etc. Our simulation study shows that our algorithm is quite effective in that each node has a leader approximately 97-99% of the time in a variety of operating conditions.

The design and analysis of test schemes for algorithm-based fault tolerance (ABFT) are examined. The problem is studied under the assumption that no bound is imposed on the size of a test. Upper and lower bounds are established on the number of tests needed to detect a given number of errors. These bounds are sharply different from those previously established under the bounded test size model. The test schemes presented are easy to implement. It is also shown that the design problem for fault detection is NP-hard even when only one fault needs to be detected. It is shown that the analysis problem is, in general, co-NP-complete and hence unlikely to be efficiently solvable. Several restricted versions of the problem that can be solved efficiently are identified. In addition, a new branch-and-bound algorithm for determining the error detectability of a system is presented.< >

In order to rationally design the mixed model assembly line and effectively solve the assembly line balancing problem, this paper analyses the characteristics of mixed model assembly lines and designs a new algorithm based on the process exchange. This algorithm could combine with research achievements of mixed model sequencing problems to make the assembly line more balanced owing to its high compatibility. This paper describes the principle and the executing process of this new algorithm in details. Lastly, the new algorithm was applied in an automobile harness of lamp assembly line, the results of which proved the validity and feasibility of the algorithm this paper proposed.

SOC (Security Operation Center) is the core platform of safety management system, and correlation analysis engine is the core of SOC. This paper designs a correlation analysis engine model. The engine can not only effectively eliminate or reduce duplicate and redundant alerts, but also quickly discover the hidden attack tactics in the huge amount of alerts generated by multi-step attacks. Based on the engine, Carma_VE algorithm is presented in order to automatically generate association rules. Compared with the Carma algorithm, Carma_VE algorithm is more efficient under the smaller training set.

We introduce the use of team algorithms using piecewise quadratic simultaneous Lyapunov functions for robust stability analysis and control design problems involving uncertain time-varying linear systems. The objective is to employ robust stability criteria that are less conservative than the well-known quadratic stability approach. The use of piecewise quadratic Lyapunov functions leads to a non-convex optimization problem, which is solved by a team algorithm that is a combination of a genetic algorithm with an interior-point method for linear matrix inequalities. Numerical examples are given, showing the advantages of the proposed solution.

Recently, much attention has been given to the design of signal-adapted filter banks, in which the filter banks are designed to optimize a particular objective function, i.e. coding gain or a multiresolution criterion, for a particular class of input signals. If we restrict the analysis/synthesis filters to satisfy an orthonormality or biorthogonality condition, but put no restrictions on filter orders, then often times it is known how to choose the filters optimally for the objectives mentioned above. However, such filters are often unrealizable infinite order filters. In this paper, we consider the design of optimal analysis/synthesis filters in which the only restriction is that they must be finite impulse response (FIR) filters. We focus here on minimizing the mean squared reconstruction error for overdecimated filter banks. An iterative method to alternately design the analysis and synthesis banks is presented in which the error is monotonic nonincreasing for each iteration. Simulation results provided show the merit of the proposed algorithm.

Phased array antennas have found an increased application in radar and, more recently, in satellite and cellular communications. The most recent application concerns smart antennas in cellular base stations. Despite increased popularity, the design and development of a planar phased array antenna remains a challenging task. In this paper, a high preference phased antenna array is designed. Compared with the traditional one, this type of antenna array has a lower sidelobe characteristic. The sidelobe lever is reduced by using the taper structure. For different scanning angle, the comparison between calculated and measured results in general is in very good agreement. Moreover, the precorrected fast Fourier transform (P-FFT) method is employed to accelerate the entire computational process to reduce significantly both the memory requirement and computational time for large arrays. Very good agreement has been obtained between calculated and measured performance of such arrays. Calculated results of radiation patterns return loss, and gain of the arrays are shown and the experimental results show reasonable agreement with the theory and simulation
